A. J. Smith seemed so capable early in San Diego's rebuild. Wheeling and dealing picks and selecting some of the best QBs in the league. His commitment to Norv is inexplicable but I wonder if he has any value to a team like the Chiefs.

what would you all do if it was announced after the final game that Romeo was gone, but Pioli signed a 4 year extension?
lol. good lord. ......I can't even imagine what I would do. my wife had better hide all blunt objects, or things that could easily be thrown at a high velocity. oh, and hide my dogs too |

If Cowher's the new HC, I'm pretty sure Omar Khan would be the new GM.

don't you folks want to be "like the pittsburg steelers" ??
sincerely, Clawk Hunt |

And I'm not sure I want Cowher being in charge of personnel either. |
I thought pioli was told he's fired?

But yeah, he'd be taking orders from the chin, no doubt. |
What's Schefter's number? I'd love to talk to him......personally.

Marc Ross is my pick to take over for Pioli.

I'm watching Wrath of Khan on SyFy right now. If Clark keeps Pioli around, I'll let out a "CLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARK!" scream and be done with it all shortly after.

I really do not give a shit what the hacks at ESPN and NFLN say.
They are a million miles away from KC and do not know shit. |
anyone see that segment on NFL gameday where a Bengals fan switched over to a Steeler fan?
|
Pioli has had the worst four year stretch as GM in Chiefs history, and those numbers don't stack up well with a lot of other GMs from other franchises.
It would be a very hard sell to have him back. It would be flat out stupid actually, from a football standpoint and PR. |
LaConfora just said Polian possibly in KC maybe.
|
Hahaha
When you have a secretive, introverted owner nobody knows what the hell is going on. |
Bill Polian expected to get consideration to run Chiefs
Longtime NFL executive Bill Polian will be exploring NFL options in 2013, sources said, and numerous NFL execs believe he could be with the Chiefs next month. As previously reported, sources said Kansas City's embattled general manager Scott Pioli was offered a contract extension prior to the season but did not sign it, and Chiefs owner Clark Hunt is under intense pressure to retool the coaching staff and front office in 2013. Hunt is a private man and sensitive to criticism, according to many who have worked for him. The 69-year-old Polian is vastly experienced and very hands on, brings immediate credibility and has a high profile that could provide a buffer for Hunt, who does not oversee the day-to-day operations. Polian has succeeded with numerous franchises and with perhaps six GM jobs opening up, this could be a year where several former executives get back in the game. The Polians and Hunt could be a logical fit, with Polian filling a role similar to the one played by Carl Peterson in Kansas City from 1989-2008. Polian's son Chris, also a former Colts GM, could become involved in personnel with the Chiefs as well. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/ja...nfora/21445566 |

God forbid this organization hire an up-and-comer. |
If polian drafts geno and brings in chip Kelly I won't be upset.
Otherwise..... Meh. |
I wouldn't be that pissed about Polian and Geno. Whatever.
I just hope, I really hope, we can get an offensive minded head coach. |

Something Pioli obviously knows nothing about. I definitely do not want Cowher as GM. |
Wait Pioli wasn't an up and comer?
|
Evan Silva@evansilva
Not the guy you want. At all. RT @greggrosenthal Every KC fan that likes idea of hiring Polian: Check out his last 5 drafts in Indy |
Quote:
Pioli had no track record. It wouldn't be my top choice, and I have always stated Peyton was the primary reason anyone was successful in Indy and he masked a lot of mediocre, at best teams... but yeah, I guess. I don't give a shit about the GM, really. I give a shit about the GM hiring a good coach and getting a good QB. If we landed say Kyle Shanahan or Chip Kelly and Geno Smith...don't care who the GM is...as long as it isn't Pioli. |
Great.
Polian is two years from retiring and handing the reigns of the franchise to his "legacy" - which was the reason he got shit canned in Indy. ****ing NFL nepotism is ridiculous and tragic. It's like watching the Renaissance era kingdoms of Europe **** and breed each other into complete incomptence and complacency. |
and by Pioli has no track record I mean...he was never THE guy...Polian has been THE guy for a long, long time.
|
Evan Silva should look at Pioli's last couple of drafts.....JFC
|
Polian can go to somewhere else.
|

I heard he got canned in Indy because Irsay wanted HIS franchise back. Hunt doesn't want anything to do with day to day operations so I doubt that would ever be a problem.
Again, I'm not advocating it, I'm just saying...I'm more worried about the #1 pick (Geno) and a good, young head coach than I am about Bill Polian potentially being our GM. |
Does this surprise anyone...?
|
He got canned because he wanted to ride the Peyton Manning wagon into the ground. Polian is the same shit, different face.
|
Quote:
Still, I'd prefer an "up and comer" and a Kyle Shanahan... but again, I won't lose sleep over Polian, Geno + head coach who likes offense. I don't want any ****ing Jim Schwartz/Gunther or Ron Rivera bullshit. |
I'd rather have a GM that realizes the importance of a franchise QB over a GM who wants to find a gem so he can pat himself on the back for two decades.
Polian rode Manning to like 10 straight 12+ win seasons. If he (or his son) wants to ride Geno for 10 straight 12+ win seasons and a Super Bowl or two...sign me up. |

I will say...
The Chiefs will be a hot commodity for a GM if we can Pioli. The #1 pick will be very enticing I'd think. |

the funny thing is...
8 years ago (or whatever) Tom Brady was SOOOOOOOOOO much better than Peyton Manning because Peyton Manning was surrounded by all of these GREAT weapons and his front office showered him with great pick after great pick after great pick. This is no exaggeration. People like Mecca used to spew this stuff all of the time during my yearly Peyton Manning/Tom Brady debates. Seriously. It was..."Tom Brady has no weapons but Peyton Manning has Edgerrin James, Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne!" Every. Single. Year. Now? Now we are rumored to get Polian and Polian was shitty and stumbled into Peyton and Peyton masked all of his poor front office decisions. Interesting fan base we have. |
Until Hunt becomes more hands-on or someone else who is more hands-on owns the team, we're probably going to stay in the mode of the Dominatrix GM who lords over cities, complexes, and candy wrappers.
Unfortunately that's not changing anytime soon. |
OTWP
go pick any team and post their last 5 drafts someday you guys are going to realize drafting is a 20% game AND Indy always picked within the last 5 picks of all those drafts Just saying. I hate to look as if I'm defending or advocating Polian, I'm just saying...it wouldn't piss me off. I'd be more interested in his head coaching choice and making sure we land Geno. |

My main problem with Polian is his unconditional love for the Cover 2.
|
everything 3rd round on is just a total crapshoot
which is why I laugh every year when people get up in arms about a 5th round pick there are hits all over the place...3rd round, 6th round...UDFA but go look, in depth, over the last 10 drafts 3rd-7th round and do some percentages in your head... 3rd round you have about a 20% chance of landing a quality starter maybe the fact I'm so used to crunching the odds in my head playing poker is why I've always found the whole "omg we traded a future 7th for Jake O'Connell" so funny the fact he stayed on our roster so long makes him a hell of a steal sadly enough, lol |

When his son became more involved in the process, that was no longer the case. |

He may have had an unconditional love for the Dungy staff and Dungy tree...and if he brings one of those idiots to KC then I will be ****ing pissed because that is an outdated scheme that doesn't work anymore. |
Pioli has already lost his.
|
Schefter didn't mention Pioli because Pioli is already fired.

Marvin Harrison was no better of a talent than Eddie Kennison; he just got drafted 1 pick after Kennison and then stumbled into Manning a year later. Manning has never, ever, ever had a guy like he does this year with Demaryius Thomas. Truth be told; A franchise QB, an all-time great like Manning...makes a good receiver a great receiver, a really good receiver a hall of fame receiver. Just like Tom Brady did with guys like David Givens. Manning turned average TE's like Jacob Tamme and Bryan Fletcher into guys who made plays on a consistent basis at times. Now he's making Knowshon look like a real RB. You think that's coincidence? Come on. |
