Seahawks 2012 Draft Grade: F

It's just a BleacherReport article, but this is still pretty amusing in hindsight.

2012 NFL Draft Grades: Power Ranking Teams That Failed on Draft Day
BY DONALD WOOD (FEATURED COLUMNIST) ON APRIL 29, 2012

With the 2012 NFL draft over and done, it’s time to look back on the teams that failed on draft day and give them a grade.

Certain teams had amazing afternoons, but others teams (I’m looking at you Seattle) completely missed on the concept of trying to improve.

All of the following squads screwed up, but it’s very clear that certain teams have major internal issues. I’m sorry to the fans of all the following teams for the poor drafting.

No. 1: Seattle Seahawks

After one of the worst picks in the first round I can ever remember, the Seattle Seahawks didn't draft any positions of need or draft for the future.

Pete Carroll is proving why he didn’t make it in the NFL the first time. Not only was Bruce Irvin a reach at No. 15, the Seahawks proved they were oblivious to their madness by celebrating their selection.

As if the day wasn’t bad enough, Seattle selecting Russell Wilson, a QB that doesn’t fit their offense at all, was by far the worst move of the draft. With the two worst moves of the draft, Seattle is the only team that received an F on draft day.

Grade: F

Donald Wood "draft expert" LMAO

Bowser 12-26-2012 08:01 PM

And zero ****s were given by Pete Carroll, then and now.

Rain Man 12-26-2012 08:02 PM

they had no choice about Wilson. we had already drafted Donald Stephenson and Jeff Allen.

Bowser 12-26-2012 08:02 PM

And if I'm not mistaken, Bruce Irvin leads all rookie pass rushers in sacks.

Yeah, this guy needs to sell insurance. Or stock shelves somewhere, whichever.

Thig Lyfe 12-26-2012 08:14 PM

That writer is probably gonna see his pay cut in half, to $1 per article.

crossbow 12-26-2012 08:15 PM

Yeah, the Russell Wilson pick was a waste. Glad Pioli didn't squander a pick on that hillbilly.

Any chance Clark can hire this guy as a lead scout?

Chiefaholic 12-26-2012 08:41 PM

Several of the "experts" here as well didn't think much about Wilson. I've always been on the bandwagon of players who perform well despite their height / weight. If a guy makes smart decisions, spreads the ball around, and hits his WR in stride in a consistant basis, THEN DRAFT HIM. I don't give a **** about a players height.

Stad 12-26-2012 09:09 PM

Bleacher Report is a ****ing joke, not surprising some schmuck from there wrote this.

Did Scott Pioli write that?

Deberg_1990 12-26-2012 10:01 PM

And this is why I always laugh at draft grades on draft weekend. Stupid and pointless

RunKC 12-26-2012 10:21 PM

This is different
I am not suggesting draft grades on draft day are always accurate

But anyone can write a Bleacher Report article

I would not compare anything on Bleacher Report with anything an actual scout or analyst says

CaliforniaChief 12-26-2012 11:52 PM

The guy looks like Dwight Schrute's son. LMAO

Sorter 12-26-2012 11:53 PM

BR should be banned from life, IMO.

I loath that site entirely.

Athan couldn't have graded them better

Hog's Gone Fishin 12-27-2012 07:58 AM

Just goes to show how drafting is pot luck. Geno Smith may be a bust or he may be a hall of famer. Nobody knows.

I'd lean further towards HOFer than bust.

mnchiefsguy 12-27-2012 08:22 AM

Looks like Pete Carroll had the last laugh on this one.

Dartgod 12-27-2012 08:33 AM

Since I never posted an opinion here at the time, I will say now that I thought the Seahawks had an incredible draft. A+++++++++++

Pasta Little Brioni 12-27-2012 08:50 AM

It wasn't just them. Many here and elsewhere despised their picks.

ChiliConCarnage 12-27-2012 08:58 AM

Yeah, it wasn't popular. Football Outsiders rounded up a bunch of popular scout/analyst/tv personalities rankings and averaged them

This year, we pulled the grades from nine NFL writers and draft analysts:
Mel Kiper, ESPN Insider
Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com (AFC) & (NFC)
Pete Prisco, CBS Sports
Vinnie Iyer, Sporting News
John Czarnecki, Fox Sports
Chris Wessling and Evan Silva, RotoWorld (AFC) & (NFC)
Chris Burke, Sports Illustrated
Jason Cole, Yahoo! Sports (AFC) & (NFC)
Nate Davis, USA Today

The Seahawks averaged out 30th ahead of the Raiders & Saints. Two teams missing several picks.

Frosty 12-27-2012 09:17 AM

The Seahawks definitely hit with Wilson, Irvin, Wagner, Turbin and Sweezy. Jeremy lane has been playing well while holding down the fort for Browner.

We would be ecstatic if the Chiefs drafted that "poorly".

Hootie 12-27-2012 10:10 AM

the funny thing about our A+ 2008 draft...

Dorsey, Albert, Flowers, Charles, Carr

the only one who sucked was our "steal" at #5 overall

oh the players we coulda had at #5

KCFaninSEA 12-27-2012 10:43 AM

If I remember correctly the big complaint about drafting Irvin at the 15 slot was that they could have had him at 30 or higher with a trade and picked up some additional picks. I do know the team claimed he was targeted by them and he was "their guy" they wanted to help their outside pass rush.

In hindsight, the Chiefs should have tried to trade up for Matt Ryan or lost one more game in 2007.

Actually, the players selected right after Dorsey didn't turn out to be much either.

Someone should dig up the 2012 draft grades. Either a thread from here or grades from the draft sites. Would be fun to see how they look now.

whoman69 12-27-2012 02:17 PM

I got killed in my mock draft for suggesting we take Wilson in the 6th.
