Chatter increases that Pioli could be back in Kansas City

LMAO

Amazing how clueless the media is.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...n-kansas-city/

Quote:

There’s a loose rule in NFL circles that a traditional General Manager gets to hire two coaches before the G.M. ends up on the hot seat. The Bears broke from that loose standard last year, firing G.M. Jerry Angelo before the only coach Angelo ever hired was let go.

The Chiefs could go the other way this time around, giving G.M. Scott Pioli a third chance to hire a new head coach.

The prevailing rumor in league circles is that first-year coach Romeo Crennel will be replaced, but that Pioli will remain. In 2009, Pioli hired Todd Haley to coach the team. Haley was fired during his third season on the job.

No one knows for sure what owner Clark Hunt will do. He was facing unrelenting pressure from fans and local media to clean house earlier this season. The Jovan Belcher tragedy caused much of the outcry to diminish.

If Hunt keeps Pioli, his mandate will be clear: Find a quarterback. With five Pro Bowlers on a two-win team, there’s no lack of talent at other positions in Kansas City. But Matt Cassel never has matched his performance in 2008, the year he replaced Tom Brady in New England, and it’s impossible to win in this league without someone who can move the chains by flinging the pig.

The bad news for the Chiefs and Pioli is that they’re a year late to earn a top-two pick. There’s no Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III in 2013. Pioli’s best bet could be to take the best available athlete at the top of the draft, and then to make like Trent Baalke or John Schneider and find a franchise quarterback in round two or three.

If Hunt fires Pioli, the talk is that Bill Polian could become the new G.M. in Kansas City. Some suspect, however, that the Polian rumors trace to Polian himself.

Either way, a looming finish of 2-14 shows that changes are needed in Kansas City. The only question is how extensive they’ll be.

@JasonColeYahoo: Heard from a league source that Scott Pioli will survive in KC, but only with significant changes (new coach,QB).

Sad thing is if this happens you have to give Pioli 3 more years. What Coach is gonna come here for 1 year.

If Pioli is brought back it will damage the Chiefs way beyond the loss of season ticket holders. It would take years and years to recover. I just can't see how Clark could be that stupid.

If Pioli gets another chance in KC, it could be w/the coach he wanted all along - Kirk Ferentz. Again, nothing completely certain there yet.

Why didn't this happen the last 4 years?

If its true I saw that coming from a mile away.

Aren't Clark and Pioli pretty good friends?

Had a feeling he would get another opportunity but Clark would get "more involved" with the team.

That would be the end for me as a fan. I'm an Iowa fan, and do not like the cumulative job Ferentz has done there. Pioli/Ferentz would lose this loyal fan for good.

There's no way the Chiefs pass on a QB with the #1 pick.

With the news of Cleveland cleaning house, the lack of news of the Chiefs cleaning house, and now this...certainly odds Pioli staying are higher than I imagined a month ago.

Ya right. There is going to be conditions in his return, if he does return.

1 of those conditions is going to be a QB.

Cassel was benched during the season and is set to make 7.5M = gone.

Quinn on a 1 year contract and played like t he dogshit he is = gone.

Stanzi still a member of the inactive club in his 2nd year = should retire.

If Clark is stupid enough to let that turd continue to run this organization, it will be the death of this franchise. The NFL is entertainment, and the shit Pioli put together ain't entertaining. It is Battlefield Earth level bad.

He had his chance, and he failed miserably. Move on.

What pisses me off about this is the fact of where there is smoke there is usually fire too. Considering this has been growing for the last week I am starting to worry a little bit.

If he is back, you can kiss a good first round QB goodbye and yet another shitty draft. What owner in his right mind actually allows a GM to pick 3 head coaches in less than 5 years?

Fml. So when we say "significant" change, we are talking about the same old shit with a qb our gm is opposed to drafting. Same antiquated scheme. Same focus on a pure trenches coach in a league that values innovation.Probably Todd Bowles as dc and man, who is left once we can that sack of shit daboll?

Not to mention, we can't rule out that piolis arrogance will never let him use the top pick for a qb. He will trade out, just to prove that he didn't get handed his qb, but was a mastermind behind a genius trade out of the spot.

****. This is the worst case scenario because a new qb and ferentz an quickly turn this team into a 7-8 game winner. Which is probably acceptable to true fans.

KCUnited 12-30-2012 09:22 AM

We're the Rihanna of fanbases, 8-8 will bring most fans back regardless of who's in the front office. Hopefully that's not Clark's goal.

I'm worried as all hell too. The team was very silent when the pioli extension rumors came out. Almost sounded like they did it early in the year but waited for the team to start winning to make the announcement. Something feels fishy.

The good news is, it's a no brainer that Romeo will be fired, but no public announcement yet. If rac is fired and we hear nothing of pioli, it's time to panic.

The Bad Guy 12-30-2012 09:29 AM

This just blows my mind on a million different levels.

You let this asshole pick ANOTHER COACH? Another coach he's "comfortable with" another coach who's out of touch with reality, and another coach who flat out sucks?

There's a lot of smoke to this. Pioli has done a masterful job of conning Clark into believing he could fix things.

I'm sick over this.

Messier 12-30-2012 09:30 AM

I'd be really hard to believe that wholesale changes wouldn't happen after the worst year I can remember. Clark Hunt hopefully is thinking, can I honestly expect Pioli to turn around his own mess? If the answer is, as it should be, no. If you don't make a change now, why bother ever changing? Why give Pioli one two or three more years, and then change? Wasting what I promise will be non winning seasons. Do it now. Hunt can't think Pioli is the man to turn this around.

KCDC 12-30-2012 09:31 AM

The reason to worry is that, if Hunt is considering keeping Pioli, he would float little trial balloons in the media and see what happens. If there is no fan outrage, he keeps Pioli. We need to demonstrate outrage somehow (e.g. picketing Hunt's house, a billboard in KC, letters/posts in blogs, letters to Clark, etc.)

In an era with pistol offense, spread offense, this team would be going back to the stone age with Ferentz.

Literally keeping Pioli is the death blow, but keeping Pioli and hiring another tree ****er like Ferentz is just the icing on the cake.
