Live music performance that brings a little dust into the room.

I've come across two spectacular performances on YouTube recently that were so good they got me a little choked up.

Just wondering if anyone has seen either or come across others that are just *that* good.

Stairway to Heaven - Kennedy Center Honors
<object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8e2fJfiddx4?hl=en_US&amp;version=3"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8e2fJfiddx4?hl=en_US&amp;version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

Firework - Night of Too Many Stars
<object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QX-xToQI34I?hl=en_US&amp;version=3"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QX-xToQI34I?hl=en_US&amp;version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

I go see Heart pretty often. They usually always do at least a couple of zeppelin numbers and they're the best zeppelin cover band I've ever seen.

This song gets me choked up almost every time. The lyrics and bittersweet tone are too much.

Ace Gunner 01-10-2013 06:17 PM

wilson sisters rawk.

the electric band behind them are so fired. that drummer is a butcher & so is the electric guitarist.

Ace Gunner 01-10-2013 06:18 PM

god I miss rock. those days are so banned.

BigMeatballDave 01-10-2013 06:19 PM

Ann can still ****ing blow.

Bowser 01-10-2013 06:20 PM

I posted that Heart song in the Epic Win thread.

If that performance doesn't move you, then you are most likely without a soul.

Bowser 01-10-2013 06:23 PM

I mean, when Robert Plant and Jimmy Page are brought to tears watching someone else cover their greatest song, you know it has to be pretty powerful stuff.

There's still some really damn good rock. You just have to weed through the crap to find it.

there are some good musical things going on, sure. but it isn't what it was. there was a sense of freedom and pushing barriers that inspired so many artists back then. I dropped in on the "stoner rock" etc thread and it was cool, but it's like the "lite" version of what once was.

there is very little originality/depth in music these days. folks are afraid of rejection in a mega way. most bands back then would be considered insane/creepy now.

I will stop there. I imagine I simply sound old to many of you, but you just had to be there to know what I miss about those days. forgive me, I'm just a sentimental old **** having a moment.

for those of you that like the zep and perhaps have never seen them in their heyday, please view the live doc film of "the song remains the same" for a look at zep at their best. I was at the first night of that 3 day booking, carnegie hall. they were just atomic to me. I'd post a vid but I don't want to hijack this thread further than I already have.

You don't know what the **** your talking about. Jason is not ****ing butchering shit. GTFO

Ace Gunner 01-10-2013 07:03 PM

jason bonham is a fat lil girl that embarrasses his father's manly legacy. he should kill himself.

MeatRock 01-10-2013 07:04 PM

Too many ****ing people say, oh, well it isn't John, well no shit. Jason has never butchered any Zep song's he plays. Without Jason Zep would never had played live again.

Pretty far from what I'd call a good performance by Zeppelin, although I'm sure it was probably better live. Also, that was at MSG.

You should just kill yourself and save yourself the embarrassment of being utterly ****ing moronic to anything regarding percussionist's.

lol yes the gardens, my mistake. the band was on fire imo. there was a lot more embellishment to songs and I really liked jimmy page's work there. he was so intense & musical in a rock sort of way. slop -- by today's standards, but alas.. that was rock. I saw the band a few more times that decade, the '73 concert was best for me.

Did you actually go, or did you just forget where you seen the mighty Zep? lol

So now Jazz is only associated with percussionist's? lol ok. I see now that i'm talking to a real ****ing moron acid induced groupie that just likes to ROCK! :doh!:

MeatRock 01-10-2013 07:35 PM

You're probably that guy in the crowd yelling play some Skynard whenever a band is playing eh?

MeatRock 01-10-2013 07:49 PM

BTW Jimmy was never a sloppy guitarist, he just played off of emotion and the feel of the music live. Studio and album work is more intricate with spot on progressions.

TeeHee. I play music so ****ing what. Is there a problem with that, or are you trying to be a funny douche?

Dallas Chief 01-10-2013 08:45 PM

Wow. Left me kinda speechless. Thank you.

So, then there is this...

Cosmos 01-12-2013 01:03 AM

Thanks for sharing, enjoyed both.

Grew up rocking out to Heart...

'Hamas' Jenkins 01-12-2013 01:11 AM

I went to a Heart-Cheap Trick-Journey (w/ Filipino Perry) concert about four years ago. CT was god awful, Journey went on forever with their new stuff that no one wanted to listen to, and felt like karaoke for obvious reasons, but Heart was absolutely fantastic.

WilliamTheIrish 01-12-2013 09:03 AM

That was good.

Several years ago while listening to an old Howard Stern on Sirius I heard an acoustic cover of "Woodstock" done by James Taylor (a Joni Mitchell song made famous by Crosby, Stills and Nash). The song was so overwhelming I sat in my car and replayed it several times.

InChiefsHeaven 01-12-2013 09:26 AM

Wow. There was indeed dust in the room. The Zep cover was amazing on its own, then the shots of Plant coming to tears...

The second video. More wow. Thanks for posting. Glad I'm alone in the house right now.

Me too, I had to chuckle. Though, he IS the right age and I'm sure even he remembers Zep. Prolly never owned any of their stuff, but he remembers...

Yep. I've pulled this and put it in my music collection.

blaise 04-18-2013 08:31 AM

I watched the game last night. I wondered if he went out intending to stop singing after the first few lines or if he just heard the crowd doing so well he decided to let them go.

Lzen 04-18-2013 10:03 AM

Wow, I had never seen that Kennedy Center Honors thing. I found the entire Zep dedication.

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/46pnW2HNQ4A" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Great stuff. Anyone know who is the singer on Rock and Roll?

And Heart is still awesome!

I watched a Heart Concert on DVD; from fairly recently; they still sounded kick ass.

Knew the song, but didn't know about the singer. Looked it up only to find out that he died at 39 5 years after recording this. Sad. :(

They're touring with The Led Zeppelin Experience, got great tickets for the August 18th show in KC at Starlight.

Word has it that both will take the stage for an encore 30 minute tribute to Zep.

chefsos 04-18-2013 07:23 PM

Heh. I've gone to exactly one rock concert in my life, and it was Heart, 1986. I just never got around to going again for a variety of reasons (excuses), but I like to think that I knew when to quit while I was ahead.

I knew they'd been doing Zep for years and they did "Rock and Roll" that night. I remember Ann Wilson saying she had a chest cold and apologizing in advance for it, but she needn't have. She just ****ing wailed as always.

Nzoner 04-18-2013 07:29 PM

One that is *that* good for me comes from the Cheap Trick DVD Silver celebrating their 25th year.Robin Zander's daughter joins him for this song and Rick Nielsen's son is also playing (drums as I recall). They're also joined by the Rockford symphony and a high school choir from their city.
