Anathema: The best QB in this draft to run Reid's offense may not be Geno

It is Colby Cameron.

This guy is as accurate as they come. And he throws it a lot. Just like Andy likes to run his O.

I would still like to see the Chiefs draft Geno with the #1 pick and Colby with either the 4th or 5th round pick. (I know, I know...he is projected to be either a 7th round pick or UDFA, but I would hate for another team to get "hot" on him and jump ahead of us.)

I'm a Geno fan and was on the bandwagon from the get go, but I personally don't think that Geno is heads and shoulders above Colby.

Cameron is the sleeper in this year's draft and will be the steal that tops the Seahawks getting Russell Wilson last year.

RealSNR 01-28-2013 12:00 PM

I saw one Louisiana Tech game all year and was kind of meh.

I'll watch the guy some more. I could get on board with him as a late round draft pick.

So Geno is the #1 pick and Colby is a 4th or 5th.....yet you don't think he's head and shoulders above him? :spock:

htismaqe 01-28-2013 12:02 PM

I'd be careful with the Russell Wilson hyperbole.

But yeah, Cameron is an interesting prospect.

I just don't see them doing what Washington did last year.

RealSNR 01-28-2013 12:03 PM

I remember when I thought Dan LeFevour was going to be the next Tom Brady.

Good times... good times...

No. I don't think there is a huge difference between them, but I think there is a huge difference between where they will be drafted.

Small school QBs have been drafted in the first round before. Why do you think Colby Cameron hasn't caught on yet as a sleeper draft pick?

Not challenging you, just asking. I want to learn more.

Ebolapox 01-28-2013 12:05 PM

everyone remember when Giovanni Carmazzi was the IT QB in the 2000 NFL draft?!?

Rudy tossed tigger's salad 01-28-2013 12:07 PM

He torched the aggies and yet I was still unimpressed. I think the coaches did a good job of confusing the defense, but he looked terrible before the adjustments were made-- especially under pressure. That's the only game I saw

I thought highly of Dan as well.

RealSNR 01-28-2013 12:13 PM

Cameron doesn't seem to have much zip on his passes from that A&M highlight.

Right now it's tough for me to think of him as anything but a Kellen Moore. Again, though, it's early. If we draft two QBs, I'd be just fine taking a shot at Cameron later in the draft.

tony77 01-28-2013 12:16 PM

Sounds good to me.

Pasta Little Brioni 01-28-2013 12:17 PM

How is he going to be bigger than Wilson if he's rotting on the bench behind Choco Pain?

Rudy tossed tigger's salad 01-28-2013 12:17 PM

I really don't like any of the late round prospects. Maybe Renfree but I haven't seen a lot of him...and he's injured.

There aren't usually a lot of late rounders that are exciting. If there's anything about their game at all that makes you say :hmmm: they're ending up somewhere in the 2nd-3rd range.

This is what ive found

Quote:

Cameron didnt throw an interception until the final two weeks of the season, but registered five in those two contests alone. It certainly helps to be throwing to a receiver like Quinton Patton, but Cameron's game relies on touch and placement. It will be interesting to see how he fares during Shrine practices
Then he threw 3/6 for 33 yards and an int in the bowl game...

MeatRock 01-28-2013 12:21 PM

I don't know, i have seen some amazing throws from Geno and it has made me very biased when it comes to this crop of QB's. Like others have said, I would draft Cameron in the latter rounds after we take a QB in round 1.

I think everyone is just so "meh" on the whole QB class; there is a lot of talk that there are no QBs worth taking in the first round. I think Cameron has suffered due to being lumped into an otherwise bad QB class.

Also, I don't think he fits in with a lot of offensive schemes. I think Reid's offense with all the short passing fits his skillset really well.

Would I bet the entire franchise on him prior to the draft? No, but I would certainly bring him in to compete with (and complement) Geno.

True enough. People thought Ryan Lindley was a good pick

Hell, I thought Lindley was an intriguing prospect.

So much for that! :D

RealSNR 01-28-2013 12:38 PM

Lindley was garbage in college. Why did people think he could be good?

Mr. Laz 01-28-2013 12:45 PM

I have no problem grabbing a prospect QB in the 5th round every other year or so.

I wouldn't say he was garbage. He had a - arm and some + traits.

It's becoming very obvious that while tangibles, particularly height, aren't the be all/end all for QBs anymore (if they ever were), having a live arm is an absolute prerequisite for any inkling of success in today's NFL.

He's got an excellent arm, very good pocket feel and has a natural understanding of the game.

It’s going to be a busy winter for Brad Sorensen. A record-setting quarterback at Southern Utah University, Sorensen this week received an invitation to the NFL Combine Feb. 20-26 at Indianapolis. "It’s a great opportunity for Brad," said Thunderbirds coach Ed Lamb. "I’m excited for him. And I think I speak for our coaching staff and all his teammates."
Most scouting services project Sorensen a third-round pick, but an impressive showing at the combine could enable him to move up. "I’m a big fan, so I couldn’t give you an unbiased opinion," Lamb said. "But judging from what the scouts have been conveying to me, he has all the physical tools. It sounds like many of them believe his abilities transfer best to the NFL - for teams with a pocket-passing game."

I think a third rounder is high for him, and a fifth is more likely.

No NFL scout, but his arm strength does not impress me.
