Lets Talk Dwayne Bowe

I'm not quite as savvy as others when it comes to keeping people/letting go. Has there been much talk of Bowe since Reid came in? Obvious upside to the guy is that he's really the only good receiver we have, and he's one of the better guys in the league. Obvious downside is he's expensive at this point.

Any insight on to whether or not there are signs pointing to him being here next year?

InChiefsHeaven 01-29-2013 12:30 PM

General rule seems to be that this gets looked at a lot harder after the superbowl.

How about the fact that Chiefs with the new CBA deal are going to have to spend up to 90 some % of their cap. Going to have to spend the $$ somewhere. Might as well make Bowe part of that.

They can no longer sake by being 30 mil under the cap. He'll be retained.

FRCDFED 01-29-2013 12:32 PM

Tag him. Get a first rounder in trade if possible. Use that pick for younger faster legs to replace him. Save money. Life is good.

BossChief 01-29-2013 12:34 PM

If we lose Bowe, we better sign Gennings and Welker to replace him.

Geno Smith is gonna need some reliable receivers and Bowe is the only one we have (unless Breaston is good to go).

Mr. Laz 01-29-2013 12:34 PM

HeWhoShallNotbeNamed is gone which is the only reason Bowe hadn't signed with the Chiefs.

Non-issue

Nobody is trading a first rounder for a 29 year old receiver looking for a big deal.

Strongside 01-29-2013 12:38 PM

This is why we should have let BlackBob stay. This thread would turn into a full-blown jihad in 5 minutes.

This is not the year to save money.

This is the year to re-sign and extend as many contracts as we can. The rules say we need to spend 90% of our cap.

Also, you're a moron

ROFL

Deberg_1990 01-29-2013 12:47 PM

I think Bowe is perfect for the short crossing routes of the WCO. We should look at drafting a speedster/deep threat in the middle rounds.

This.

Especially because our 1st round QB isn't going to be getting a huge contract. Extend Bowe, Colquitt and Albert.

Hammock Parties 01-29-2013 12:51 PM

If we dont re-sign him, we have 0 gamebreaking receiving threats.

Clark?

keg in kc 01-29-2013 12:52 PM

Why talk? Re-sign him. Re-sign Albert. Don't need much discussion for either one.

BossChief 01-29-2013 12:58 PM

Another point that goes unmentioned.... The team has to spend he actual CASH CAP, not just get to the cap floor. I bet we damn near need to sign Bowe, Albert and Colqiut just to get there.

If also really like to see hem bring Dorsey back...I think he could be pretty good in a 1 gap nose type roll.

Easy 6 01-29-2013 01:13 PM

I would be floored if Reid didnt want to keep him, without him the cupboard is very bare.

He instantly gives Reid a legitimate player... slants, crosses, fades, snagging poorly thrown jump balls, he would seem to be a great fit for the WCO.

As others have said, what we need is speed to compliment him.

TLO 01-29-2013 01:16 PM

Speed to compliment him sure, but I could see Bowe thriving in the WCO. He is best after the catch, so throwing him a lot of slants, crossing patterns, etc could be a thing of beauty.

Molitoth 01-29-2013 01:20 PM

Resign Colquitt.
Resign Albert.
Draft Geno.
Tag Bowe.

We don't know that. Baldwin could be good with a QB that establishes a good chemistry with him. Breaston IS good if we had a QB that will throw him the ball.

Basically Bowe looks better than these other receivers because Cassel would only throw the ball to him and Quinn sucks too.

QB's make the receiver. (Look at what Rodgers has done to the GB WR crew, what Brady has done with the craptastic NE crew, and Peyton has done with Colts/Broncos)

Geno is pretty good at getting the ball to multiple receivers... so one of our guys could break out.

boogblaster 01-29-2013 01:23 PM

tag him .. we gotta have a #1 WR .....

saphojunkie 01-29-2013 01:26 PM

Tag him. Trade him to Pittsburgh straight up for Mike Wallace. Bowe reunites with Haley, who coached him to his best year, and gets a legit QB for once.

We get a deep threat with speed for Geno to hit for the long bomb.

Everyone gets their new contract, everyone gets a better situation.

Oh, and if you agree to that, then why not throw in having your hot sister fellate me.

They're already spending over the CBA-mandated cash number.

Sorter 01-29-2013 01:29 PM

Bowe is a great fit IMO for our offense. Gains solid separation on slants and can beat a solid jam at the LOS, sells his down field routes and gains great separation on digs, outs, and comebacks. Additionally, he's a a strong guy who can shield with his body and despite how much people like to bitch about his drops, he typically catches the ball aggressively with his hands.

He's going to do wonders with a QB that has consistent ball placement. If we resign Bowe and Geno progresses like an elite QB prospect, we'll also be able to murder people with back shoulder throws with Bowe in the future.

Sorter 01-29-2013 01:31 PM

I'd also like to see us begin to utilize Bowe in the slot on occasion as I think he's a very solid size/strength matchup adv over most guys playing in the nickel and also has the ability to get down the seam. He'll need another legit receiver on the outside though to truly accomplish this though IMO.

mcaj22 01-29-2013 02:34 PM

but we have Jon Baldwin to replace Bowe. This will be Jon Baldwins break out year I just know it!

/resident homers

BoneKrusher 01-29-2013 02:42 PM

all Andy Reid has to do is look at The Chiefs passing stats when Bowe was out with injuries.

Mr. Laz 01-29-2013 02:44 PM

jjkrueg 01-29-2013 02:46 PM

Bowe is a must resign IMO

Strongside 01-29-2013 03:04 PM

$10 says Bowe borrowed that hat from Hali or Houston.

O.city 01-29-2013 03:08 PM

I think Bowe could be a better downfield threat, if we had somone to get it to him with some accuracy.

HotCarl 01-29-2013 05:34 PM

So long as he will agree to a reasonable offer, I'm confident a deal can get done that benefits both parties.

That's what a lot of jets fans said when they handed out a bunch of huge contracts. Now look at them. They will be the Chiefs of next year...without the talent.

The difference is, the Chiefs HAVE to spend even MORE this year.

Well, that's an honest statement that most fans wouldn't make.

We should care about our cap situation in future years though.

58-4ever 01-29-2013 05:51 PM

Do not care about expensive. Do you think other fans have this mindset? We have to get up to the MINIMUM!! We are not there yet. The fact that even remotely comes into your brain is ridiculous.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying don't sign him. I'm just saying that if you get the attitude of "sign him at ANY cost", eventually you have to pay the piper. As with any signing, it has to be cost vs. value. With the Chief's cap space, the cost can be pretty high and still have value.

Pasta Little Brioni 01-29-2013 06:02 PM

Lock him up long term or tag him, simple as that.

I have no problem with Bowe getting Fitzgerald money.

That was 2 years ago.

Those contacts are never paid out entirely.

What is the highest contract you would approve, if you were the GM?

BlackHelicopters 01-29-2013 06:14 PM

Bowe is over- rated and needs to be allowed to walk.

A lot.

I have no idea what Bowe is even looking for.

I need a jumping-off point.

O.city 01-29-2013 07:14 PM

Well, it's not my money, so I don't really give a shit how much they pay him. I'd rather overpay and keep him, than not pay and lose him.

Chief Roundup 01-29-2013 08:24 PM

7 yr $85 million with 9 mil signing bonus and 30 million guaranteed. Backload the last couple years for when he is 34 and he can be cut without paying those years that would be worth 25 to 30 million of the contract.

With as little going for us on offense as what we have I'd say the same...

No way that's true. I hate to ask, but can I get a link?

They have to spend 99% of the total cap as cash.

BossChief 01-29-2013 10:30 PM

Just hand Bowe two checks and tell him we'll see him at camp.

Have the checks for Cassel (7.5 million) and Jackson (14.75 million) already made out and tell him to cross off their names (with a wink, of course).
