Define success / failure for the 2013 season
In your opinion what defines success for the KC Chiefss 2013?
Any record better than 2-14 Any record 8-8 or better At least a playoff spot A playoff win |
Drafting a QB at #1. That's it. At least for me.
|
The reason I say that is because if the rookie struggles, I understand. It happens. It can affect how many games you win. For this year, I just want to see the top stud college field general behind center. That's it.
|
Would it be reasonable to project our quarterback as a franchise QB?
If yes, pass. If no, fail. |
I want to draft a QB at #1. After that, I want to see improvement on offense. I don't really care about wins at this point - I just want to see an offense that isn't historically pathetic.
That being said, if we bring in someone like Alex Smith and make him the starter, I expect a playoff berth. Period. No excuses. |
A playoff win. Gawdamnit, is that too much to ask for one win every 18-20 years?
|
KC can partly define success this year by identifying & drafting a QB this offseason. If they do that, get a guy we all believe could be capable of winning a SB someday, then it doesn't matter as much what we do this year.
But speaking strictly this year on record? Hmm... Coming from 2-14 and playing a rookie QB? I'd say anything more than 8-8 would be a big success. |
I can't tell you right now and I can't define it, but I'll know it when I see it.
|
There were 6 or 7 games where if we would have scored a TD or 2 more, we could have won or made things interesting. basically 14 points or less. So if we get just decent QB play and coaching, i think we could win 7 or 8 games next season at the bottom end. I would be happy with that.

New QB, 10+ wins, playoff appearance, playoff win would be great.

Franchise QB that isn't from the fail castoff heap from somewhere else...

Success is winning the Super Bowl. Failure is not winning the Super Bowl.

If by chance they don't draft one of the top two QBs with the first pick and we don't have a stud QBotf from the draft this year I may as well mail in all my Chiefs gear to Clark Hunt and send a message that I'm done supporting them until they get it right. |

I want a QB that fits Reid's and Dorsey's vision of a franchise QB. I want an aggressive defense. I want top notch special teams play. I want a team that hates losing.

Re-Sign Bowe or Albert
Draft a QB who can start either immediately, or by mid-season Acquire a backup in FA draft a late round QB flier implement the offensive and defensive schemes ASAP in OTAs etc Dump Cassel Dump Quinn Dump Stanzi Get Baldwin's ass in gear, or get him hittin' the bricks. and let him know this. Draft a Safety ...there so much shit to do lol. |
Superbowl

Just 3 major things.
1) A Chiefs drafted QB behind center, even if it is Stanzi. I would prefer one from this draft, but I don't want to see a recycled failure from another team, period, or I am done for a while. Enough is enough, stop it dammit! 2) Coaching that is capable of getting the most out of these guys. I suspect this is a done deal, with the Andy Reid and staff hire, but I still want to see it. There was plenty of talent on this team to be above average, but the coaching was so bad, they are picking number one. Six pro bowlers, and picking first, that is very telling. 3) Cassel and Quinn gone from the roster, so all doubt and temptation is removed. |
Success would be me not having to turn a game off early in the 4th quarter. I can look past the record in the regime's first year, but it can't be too bad if they're competitive game in and game out.

Impossible to say without knowing what the roster looks like. The first step should should be quarterback, of course. I'll be extremely disappointed if they don't take one in the 1st round, but there are other ways to go behind center, even if I think they're the wrong ways. After that, if they don't think any players are salvageable outside of the obvious ones and take a scythe to the roster, we're probably looking at 6 or fewer wins. If they think they can build on what's here, then we should see 8 or more.
Since they're sticking with the 3-4, my guess is we're not going to see re-building. Either way, wins or losses aside, success for me will be putting a competitive product on the field and being a better team in week 17 than in week 1. That's really it. |

I want to see us draft a quarterback at 1.1 and for his last 6 games to be noticeably better than his first 6 games.
That's pretty much it and if we can do that, I can see this team getting one of the wildcards. |

My main point was that if they bring in 45 new guys, they probably won't win many games. History tells us that, regardless of who's on the coaching staff. (I don't think they'll do that, though) |

I don't care what the record is, if the answer to this question is yes the future will be promising. |

No players committing murder would be a good start
Too soon? |
This is what I define as success for 2013:
Drafting one of the first two QBs taken in this draft. If that is Geno or Wilson at 1.1, I'm happy as a clam. If that means we traded down, got an extra couple high draft picks, and still got a guy I would have been happy with at 1.1, even better. If that means that we got a guy at #34 that I would have been happy with at 1.1, then we just ****ed the league, and rock on. But I don't want the 6th QB taken. I know that works sometimes (Kaepernick, Wilson, Brady) but I don't want it. Resign Bowe. Resign Albert. Win at least 6 home games. Average margin of defeat. I think this was the biggest glaring weakness. I don't want to see any blowouts. None. No games lost by two touchdowns or more. |
For me it's QB with the first pick, or a trade back but still in the top 10 and still a QB with the pick. After that, improved coaching that leads us to at least 7 wins
