Skiing Breckenridge.. any Tips?

Taking the son out to ski president's day week and was looking for tips as far as good places to eat. We'll be staying in the village near main street.

Also looking for any tips on finding discount lift tickets. Looking for 4 day lift pass.

TIA

Denver (and Frisco) supermarkets have 1 day discount lift tickets, but I think they're still pretty pricey.

Check Liftopia or an advanced 4-day pass through Breck's site.

I'm going out that following weekend with a few of my friends. We went to Breck for 5 or 6 straight years. This year we're going to stay in Dillon and try to hit Vail one day, Winter Park another and then one day at either Keystone or Breck, whichever seems to have better conditions.

I am really low maintenance when it comes to food, and I tend to gravitate toward brewpubs and bar/grills. I love Breckenridge Brewery. The beer is awesome and the food is passable.

I remember liking a burger I had at Downstairs at Eric's.

I'm not even sure if we ate at the Gold Pan Saloon, but it was a pretty cool place.

empire burger is pretty good. breckenridge brewery is decent too. good beer

Don't hit an AIDS tree. You'll never hear the end of it.

if youre driving up to breck and youre hungry on the way stop in idaho springs at smokin yards bbq. its the best bbq I had in colorado. I made the drive alot I went to cu. also theres this little roadhouse off i70 at the highway 6 exit. the whole inside is covered in dollar bills. get the chili

Chief_For_Life58 02-07-2013 03:21 PM

and watch out for all the stupid ****s that wear basketball jerseys down to the ankles and think theyre awesome. they love breck

NewChief 02-07-2013 03:22 PM

If you want the locals to think you're cool, be sure to wear your Chiefs gear.

Breckenridge Oatmeal Stout.
Sorry, no help on the skiing.

We have been to a place called "Erics Downunder" several times. Sports bar with really good food. Its always been busy. The lift tickets wil not be cheap !

Could that be "Downstairs at Eric's"? I've heard from several others they have great pizza and decent prices.

Breck.....meh.

....go around the bend to Copper Mtn during the day....and hit Breck at night.

Rain Man 02-07-2013 05:32 PM

There's a good pizza place one block off the main drag, slightly up the hill (away from the creek).

Went to Breckenridge a few years ago with a couple of friends and my sister.

She got tired at the top of the hill in an icy snow storm. We headed down the mountain, and she locked up, skies pointed down.

I tried to catch up to her as she approached a fork...with a big steel sign and some trees. I couldn't.....she smashed into some Pakistani looking guy about 50mph. I thought she was dead when I got down there, and saw blood in the snow as we approached and she was face down.

Rolled her over and her head was bashed open pretty good around her hairline.

The brown guy started mbitching mbout dhis tski mpoles being mbent.

Anyway. She got a sled ride and $400 worth of purple super glue.

My advice is not to do that.

My other advise is to skip Breck and go somewhere else like Copper Mountain or A basin.

Absolutely take the time on the way over or the way back to hit up Beau Jo's Pizza in Idaho Springs.

You will NOT be sorry!

We've already worn out Winter Park, and Steamboat is on our skiing bucket list, but don't feel like driving out there and back on this trip.

Oh, and the story about the lady "locking up".. is why my wife isn't coming.. we boys are a -little- too adventurous for her :D

Iowanian 02-07-2013 06:03 PM

If you're good skiers, you and your boys will love A basin.

I like Keystone at night, copper mountain and A basin the best of the places I've been.

ya I hear ya. Breck is fun its got a great town and its a good mountain for kids. You guys will have fun. It gets really windy. Breckenwind. Bring bandanas or a ski mask just in case if you get cold easily.

EagleRob 02-07-2013 06:06 PM

Oh another thought, near Breck there's an outfit that does snowmobile tours on the top of the range along the Continental Divide. I remember shredding the side of a bowl at about 40 mph at nearly 14,000 ft at -20F. Good times. About $200 for a two hour tour.

BlackHelicopters 02-07-2013 06:38 PM

Visit any newly opened herb shop that you can. Worth the trip.

Tombstone RJ 02-07-2013 08:28 PM

lol, avoid Breck like the plague. If you want to score some drugs for your kid, it's a great place. If you want a touristy butt plug, go to Breck.

Maybe Giampietro's? Been a few years but that place always had very good pasta.

ClevelandBronco 02-07-2013 09:24 PM

Yeah. If you see some fool skiing completely out of control, get to the side of the run as fast as possible. It's me and I'm sorry. It's just what happens when a guy from Cleveland moves to Colorado.

KChiefer 02-07-2013 09:30 PM

Don't french fry when you should pizza.

Boat had (relatively) great snow last month, and it's only a couple hours past Vail.

Easy 6 02-08-2013 12:11 PM

My buddy who goes every year says you have to buy three days worth of lift tickets to get a deal.

Ollies Pub is supposed to be very good food, same for Breckenridge Brewery.
