Franchise tag deadline is tomorrow at 3pm.

Is it possible they are letting both players walk? Haven't heard a thing.

O.city 03-03-2013 10:28 AM

They aren't/won't tag Albert, that much we've been told. They will likely sign Bowe and let Albert test the market.

BlackHelicopters 03-03-2013 10:30 AM

I see the Chefs not tagging anybody.

Tombstone RJ 03-03-2013 10:32 AM

It's gonna tick me off when Bowe goes to the Pats. If Reid was smart he'd tag Bowe...

O.city 03-03-2013 10:33 AM

At this point, with the Alex Smith deal, I don't see how you don't sign both. If you are pushing to win now, you need those guys.

Fairplay 03-03-2013 10:33 AM

We have to sign them both, we just have to.

BossChief 03-03-2013 10:35 AM

Stevie Johnson has been trying to recruit Bowe.

If these guys walk it's a pathedic move.

ChiliConCarnage 03-03-2013 10:43 AM

I can't imagine them not tagging Bowe.

Hey Alex, we're really excited to bring you onto the team. Let me introduce you to your starting receivers, Terrence Copper and Jamar Newsome.

Hopefully we are working on an extended contract for Bowe. Maybe we should tweet and ask John Clayton at the 4 letter place.

RealSNR 03-03-2013 10:49 AM

Guys who were listening to ESPN radio last night said the Chiefs were close to a new deal with Bowe. If that's true, I imagine a deal will get hammered out today.

Fritz88 03-03-2013 11:00 AM

Let Albert walk....

No...no

Need to tag MVP Colquitt asap.

ChiefMojo 03-03-2013 11:02 AM

Sounds like a deal is very close with Bowe but at worst he is getting tagged. Seems on the Albert front things aren't looking to rosey. My guess is the Chiefs are going to let him walk. We are taking either Joeckel at #1 or trade down where we will take either Fisher or Johnson.

Chiefshrink 03-03-2013 11:06 AM

With Reid dealing with a lot of injured veteran O-linemen these past 2 yrs at Philly I can see him saying "F It" I'm not dealing with that crap anymore let's just get a new one in the draft.

I really like Fisher and Johnson far more than Joekel because they are far more athletic and have that "F you blue collar nastiness" about them and I bet they will end up being better than Joekel in the long run.

ChiefMojo 03-03-2013 11:11 AM

I have that feeling as well. I think Joeckel is going to be one of those LT's that is going to be solid for many years more on the level of Albert but I have a feeling Fisher and Johnson have the upside to be great LT's with their frames and athletic ability. Joeckel is just more of a polished product with less upside. He will continue to get better as he gets stronger but again he doesn't have the freakish upside as the other two. So hope for a trade down!

boogblaster 03-03-2013 11:12 AM

albert has had injury probs the last two years .. they might let him walk .....

My thoughts exactly.

ChiefMojo 03-03-2013 11:17 AM

As someone just mentioned, Reid has been fighting the injury bug at LT in Philly the last couple of years... probably doesn't want to deal with it in KC as well. You know it has to be one of the pro/cons in discussions.

Red Dawg 03-03-2013 11:19 AM

If he walks then we better get Fisher. Joker is not ready in strength catagory.

ChiefMojo 03-03-2013 11:21 AM

Technically neither are Fisher or Johnson. The LT's at the top of this draft aren't like Fluker who is physically imposing already. The top three still need to develop frame wise but have other pluses on their side to make a impact immediately.

Bowser 03-03-2013 11:21 AM

They need both of these guys back. Didn't Albert at one point say he wasn't looking to break the bank in KC, but just wanted to stay? I don't get it....

Didn't he also say he is healthy? I'd much rather keep Albert and not draft next LT this year with our first. Geno Smith is my #1 option, I know that's not going happen trade back if they can and draft CB.

notorious 03-03-2013 11:28 AM

They are using Joekoff as leverage against Albert.

"If you don't want to sign, we will just replace you with the #1."

Coogs 03-03-2013 11:29 AM

They were discussing the LT market durning the combine on the NFLNetwork. One... or more... of the pundits that were discussing it said that the money the FA LT's are asking for may not be there due to supply and demand. Supply is high with the amount of LT's available in free agency and early in the draft.

If we choose to let Albert test the FA market, I wouldn't panic right away. He may find the money isn't out there and wind up back in KC... just for less money than he was hoping for.

Nervous... yes. But panic... no.

prhom 03-03-2013 11:51 AM

Are we writing off Stephenson at this point? I thought he was supposed to be groomed for the next LT position? I know he didn't play like a HOF LT last year, but was it enough to give up on him completely?

isn't taking a tackle at #1 like drafting Bulaga at #1?

isn't that the basic level this year?

So if the supply is out there, why use your ****ing number one on a tackle?

Didn't we aquire Albert by trading a player that was about to walk?

Albert and Charles came out of the Jared Allen deal. One other player as well but I can't remember right now.

Edit: It was Morgan the safety.

You won't find me supporting an OT at #1.

I think we get Albert resigned. Other teams let their guys test the waters, and they re-up with the original team. Could happen here too. I sort of expect that to happen.

Lane Johnson did 28.

He's stronger, he's more athletic. He probably has more upside than any other tackle in the class.

It's an incredibly strong LT class at the top, so even if we do think the LT is the way to go, if we don't trade down to get ours, this front office is staggeringly inept.

I agree with you up until that last statement.

You can't blame teams for not wanting to give up even a light ransom to trade up to the #1 pick.

I'm getting the feeling that they have tunnel vision, like they made their assesments of the team in their first seven to ten days, made a plan to get their guys, and come hell or high water that's the route they're going to go.

I don't care if it's the Cardinals giving us a 3rd - take it.

They've already gutted their leverage (again) but using a 2nd rounder to pick up a mediocre QB (again) and totally depriving them of the chance to truly make a QB bluff (again). So you're right - they're not going to extract a large price from anyone.

But I don't care the cost, there is no difference in value between Joeckel, Fisher and Johnson in the long-term and if they're hell-bent on taking a tackle, then it's time to do your job and start milking other GMs to convince them that someone like Sharrif Floyd, Dee Milliner or yes, the same Geno Smith who they've effectively sabotaged, DO have surplus value.

It's the same place that Scott Pioli found himself and we immediately saw how incapable Pioli was of operating without loaded dice. Well, John and Andy, it's time to prove you can actually adapt to tough circumstances.
