Oakland cuts another bust in Heyward-Bey

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter

Raiders announced they released WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, DB Michael Huff and DE David Tollefson; and re-signed DB Phillip Adams.

Direckshun 03-12-2013 05:56 PM

Man, Heyward-Bey probably wouldn't cost that much and he's pretty close to exactly what we need here.

Sassy Squatch 03-12-2013 05:56 PM

Sort of want?

BlackHelicopters 03-12-2013 05:56 PM

Sign them and print the tickets. Raiders cast-offs. Always a good idea.

mcaj22 03-12-2013 05:57 PM

DHB would be by far a saving grace to this awful FA.

rabblerouser 03-12-2013 05:57 PM

speed...

-King- 03-12-2013 05:57 PM

Wouldn't mind picking him up.

Mr_Tomahawk 03-12-2013 05:58 PM

Don't sign. He would run too far. We need more TE's

Ceej 03-12-2013 05:58 PM

You'd almost have to think Minnesota, right?

listopencil 03-12-2013 06:02 PM

I was working with a bunch of Raider fans when he was drafted, and we were doing the "No - my team sucks more" argument. I remember saying that on the first Defensive drive of the year none of our players were going to take the field because they all assumed they were back ups. He goes, "Well, none of our guys are going to get open because they'll all be running the same route. We have nothing but #3 WR's." Good times.

Cant have him outrunning our franchise qbs noodle arm.

I'll take Huff

I'm sorry, but I just don't think it's awful when we get the best WR in free agency to resign with our team for less money than lesser players.

The additions have been uninspiring and NO ONE hates Chase Daniel as much as I do, but you're really not seeing the overall picture here. We were supposed to lose Dwayne Bowe. that was a major victory.

Jiu Jitsu Jon 03-12-2013 06:05 PM

Sign all three. Hiring former Raiders has worked out so well for you.

{cringes}

This is absolutely correct.

I'd hate to get a Faid bust, but he's a perfect fit and at times a damn dynamic weapon. I'd love to see him opposite of Bowe.

PRIMETIME211 03-12-2013 06:07 PM

that franchise sucks because they missed so much on high draft picks, their talent evaluaters or coaching is horrible.

This guy is only 26 and he's good for about 700 yards and 4 TD's a year. Solid number 2 with speed.

Why the **** not?

This

Gravedigger 03-12-2013 06:17 PM

I'd have to agree, you grab him on the cheap and theres your Breaston spot filled. Couldn't be any worse than Breaston, not to mention Heyward Bey has had some of the worst QB's throwing to him in the past couple of years. Jamarcus Russell and a heavily declining Palmer.

That's what I've been saying. The last thing we need on our team is a WR with speed. We have no QB capable of hitting a WR downfield unless the safety forgot to cover and the WR is wide open.

saphojunkie 03-12-2013 06:22 PM

FFS please go after Huff.

He's 30. His big money is behind him. But he is absolutely capable of still being a completely solid starter at safety.

Hammock Parties 03-12-2013 06:24 PM

We have a logjam at safety, no need for Huff.

Just think, if DHB signed here he could catch 9 balls over 20 yards every year.

Robinson, Lewis and Abdullah are all gonna be competing to start at FS.

I bet they want Robinson to start there anyway. And Huff hasn't been that great after he had basically a career year in 2010.

Dunta Robinson, IMHO, is going to be taking Arenas' spot as the nickel corner. We are still signing a legit #2 CB.

And Kendrick Lewis is a fifth round draft pick that can't stay healthy. Why on earth anyone is penciling him in for a spot on the final 53 man roster is beyond me.

He's playing FS.

The Chiefs aren't stupid enough to play him at CB, and Bad Guy indicated he was being brought in to play FS, too.

It makes a lot more sense than having him suck at CB.

Starting in like week 3 because of injuries. Huff is talented and would be an upgrade over everything currently on the roster outside of Berry.

Until they spent their cb money on role players...

CoMoChief 03-12-2013 06:38 PM

He'd be better if he was in a better position. How many OC's and bullshit did he go through while in OAK? he's better than anyone we have outside of Bowe.

Nowadays, you absolutely need a third cornerback, and Robinson would do just find covering the slot. Seriously, why does everyone view these free agency signings as automatic starters? Did you see the depth on this team last year? Our biggest hole was the third man up at every position.

Nah, I just think calling the idea of stockpiling FS as 'defensive help' is pretty stupid, that's all.

Defensive help would be allocating resources we've already spent on both Robinson, Abdullah and Lewis to any number of other positions on the team that could use some help.

So your response is either stupid, glib or some combination of both. In other words, anyone that voted for you as Noob of the Year is reeruned.

Rumor already out there is that DHB agent is already in discussions with the Chiefs to setup a visit.

for a buck fitty and only if I thought he would just shut the hell up and play hard. this team needs speed outside badly. hell, I would put Jamaal split wide with Bowe slot a lot. imagine if they had speed out there with Bowe and Jamaal in the backfield.

He'd be more valuable to this team than McCluster.

41-606-5 last year and 65-975-4 the year prior, and he was actually among the league leaders in YAC.

I was never impressed with the guy, but the past two seasons he has run consistent good routes against the Chiefs. that did impress. he's real shifty high speed guy like a tim brown.
