Steve Maneri gone

@stevemaneri: Chiefsnation: I won't be returning to Kansas City next season

Direckshun 03-16-2013 09:44 AM

He's an RFA this year.

So this means the Chiefs will not be re-signing him or placing a tender on him.

Too bad. He was a solid blocking tight end. I see absolutely no reason to let him go.

Direckshun 03-16-2013 09:45 AM

His fellow Temple alumni are recruiting him. LMAO

The chiefs never tender him deadline was mar 12

OrtonsPiercedTaint 03-16-2013 10:14 AM

Maybe he tossed around the cannibal too much.

RealSNR 03-16-2013 10:17 AM

He got raped!

Easy 6 03-16-2013 10:33 AM

He's probably just too one dimensional for Reids tastes, not a skilled enough receiver.

Adios muchacho.

bevischief 03-16-2013 10:36 AM

He is going to rape us next year.

DeezNutz 03-16-2013 10:37 AM

This team will sorely miss his lack of talent and production.

In today's NFL, one dimensional blocking TEs are a useless relic.

philfree 03-16-2013 11:00 AM

So we cut him and gained $3.00 in cap space?

Well this happened at the start of free agency then. Steves a little slow on the twitter wire I guess.

Buehler445 03-16-2013 11:06 AM

Dang. I liked him. Probably a good call, but I hoped he would come around. He was better than that mother****ing OConnell

He was a blocking guy, but after he lost weight, I thought he ran pretty well. I remember one really athletic play he made on a terrible ball Cassel threw. He still didn't get within 5 feet of the pass, it was that bad, but I surprised by the athleticism he showed.

Maneri had quietly become one of my favorite Chiefs. It seems he did what he was asked to do and those away-from-the-body catches did remind me a bit of Gonzo. I wish he would have stayed. :(

Just like catching passes, it took some time before he caught on to twitter.

Wut? He caught five passes last year, and one the season before.

Exactly. The Chiefs have sucked for so long that those with less suckage, but suckage nine the less, become some folks favorite players...:shake:

Hammock Parties 03-17-2013 12:56 PM

The homers here loved this guy last year. LMAO

Saw him as a real threat!

chefsos 03-17-2013 01:05 PM

I don't really recall anything about him, and neither does Troy Polamalu.

LoneWolf 03-17-2013 01:07 PM

What was his PFF rating? I will not have an opinion on his not returning without this information.

As everyone knows he was a good run blocker and their grades reflect that.

BlackHelicopters 03-17-2013 02:53 PM

He could block an aids tree after drinking anti freeze like no other.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury; Exhibit A as to why we should not give two ****s about the loss of this player. Court.....adjourned.

Chief3188 03-17-2013 03:18 PM

More than likely Maneri will be a nobody journeyman. But he did show a few moments that he could be a diamond in the rough in my opinion.

Bottom line it is impossible to judge any WR's or TE's production with what has been throwing them the ball here the last few years.

But for what Maneri actually contributed here, losing him is no big deal.

I guess I used the term favorite too casually. Maybe "favorite" should be categorized into different levels. In that case I should have said one of favorite back ups.

That corrected, what I meant in general was that he seemed to do what he was asked and WHEN he was on the field I enjoyed watching him make those away-from-body catches. I have mentioned that as a pleasant similarity to the master himself, Tony Gonzalez.

KC_Lee 03-21-2013 09:41 AM

He could have been this generation's Joe Valerio, skinnier yes, but alas no more.

ndws 03-21-2013 09:43 AM

If Billy Bajema can keep sticking with teams, so should Maneri. He did **** Polamalu up on that run. Maneri >> OConnell and most of the other dead weight KC has had at TE.

I think he was a better receiver than given credit. He wasn't targeted that much though. Just my opinion, but I think given a fair chance and proper coaching this guy can be a fairly good TE or better.

It's funny how guys like this capture the average fan's imagination. We always hope they turn out to be some hidden gem when, in reality, 99.99% of the time they don't amount to anything. Just throw Maneri on the pile with Jessie Haynes, Richard Smith, Boomer Grigsby, etc.

Mr. Laz 03-21-2013 09:58 AM

If Maneri had a real quarterback he would have had tons of receptions.

I smell mocking here. But if serious, I have to disagree. Though I think he does have a reasonable upside as a receiver.

I really liked Mineri and thought he had great hands and could catch 1-2 passes a game crossing deep middle or long outside route
