Indy Car Racing Season Starts Tomorrow - St. Petersburg

For all you fellow racing nuts don't forget the Indy Car racing season starts tomorrow in St. Petersburg, Fl.

http://www.indycar.com/

I'm so ready for it. It's a street course.

It's on NBC Sports Network.

FlaChief58 03-23-2013 01:09 PM

This ain't NASCAR.

It's a street race/grand prix.

BlackHelicopters 03-23-2013 01:17 PM

Do the cars have turn signals?

I spent the day there yesterday. Here's what I posted on Facebook

Today we went to the Indy car race that is taking place in the streets we drive down all the time. It's amazing how loud and fast these cars are in person.

Expecting 100,000 fans here this weekend. It is a huge event. I actually liked seeing the Mustangs, Nissans and corvettes run through the streets more. Different engines and style of cars. Videos or tv can't really show the speed and power of these machines. Highly recommend you seeing it in person at least once.

I used to shoot the Houston Grand Prix when they used to have it.

Got to meet Mario and Michael Andretti (Michael was still driving) all the drivers and hang out with Dario Franchitti a bit. Gave him one of my pics of him in his Kool car and he still has it haha.

I love Indy Car racing and hope to get photo passes for Indy this year. Will be like the Super Bowl.

houstonwhodat 03-23-2013 01:52 PM

Formula 1 Malaysian Grand Prix is tomorrow too, live 2:30am to be replayed later.

Also on NBCSN.

Dayze 03-23-2013 06:38 PM

I hope they do something about passing in that first corner after the start. I think a year or two ago, they had like 5 consecutive yellows after people got jammed up.

took forever for the cars to spread out and to get in the rythym of the race.

love Indy Car racing.

It's on the local nbcsports cable channel. Guess its blacked out on the over the air channel.

BTW, we are suppose to get some rain off and on all day tomorrow. Those Indy cars aren't effected by the rain, correct? The 100K fans might not like the rain though.

We stayed in a hotel a couple years ago that was right at the on the race course. It was pretty cool to see it from the room.

My 'to-do' lists include seeing an Indy car race; see a AMA Superbike at Laguna Seca.

and NHRA at a couple places. speaking of....HPT should be coming out with the schedule.

I'm not into racing. I just went for the experience and it was in my town. But, everyone should see these cars in person once in their life. The speed is just flat out amazing and impressive in person.

Dayze 03-23-2013 08:22 PM

I bet. I'd love the sound too.

NHRA and Superbikes make my weiner tingle.

Thats it. Thats on of the best places to watch the race.

Did you eat at the Chinese restaurant? the chinese sucks down here but thats the best in town. Thai food is amazing down here though.

Dayze 03-23-2013 08:26 PM

I went to a NASCAR race at Kansas after I got some free tickets from a vendor.

I'm not into NASCAR at all; mabye watch Daytona etc, but that's it.

I'll admit though, in person it was way cool. Doubt I'd spend money on tickets, but it was cool. sounded great.

yep and yep.

I was in town visiting the wife and one of my kids. There was a guy who did hyperbaric therapy. And we wanted to see if we saw benefits of it prior to buying a chamber. So they came down for a month and the little one and I spent a week in the middle.

I was a Respiratory Therapist for a # of years. I saw hyperbaric therapy work. It's not a cure all, but it helps.

there are many scientific studies that show it speeds up cell regeneration. I know from my experience that the people who were taking hyperbaric therapy did better than those who weren't.

No idea on Salt Lake City. They're in Austin the April 19-21.

I don't follow the bikes like I used to. I love to watch the races but I don't have the time to keep up with the details like I do with F1.

Aussie V8 super cars are coming to Austin too. I really wish I could make that, but life is in the way this year.

All racing is different in person. The camera work on racing is good and steady so unless you've seen them live it's hard to get an appreciation for how fast they are moving. Also, the smells and sounds are a big part of the feeling you get from watching live. You don't get that with watching it on TV.

I ****ing loathe what NASCAR has become but I love to attend races at Texas Motor Speedway.

They don't normally run in the rain on oval's but on street courses I think they still do.

One think nobody mentioned is the talent Indy and Formula 1 racing attracts.

It's not like the NASCAR redneck hillbilly girls.

The girls Indy and Formula 1 attracts is high quality 1st class primo pussy.

There's a lot of money on those circuits and of course it attracts beautiful women.

I also love the fact that everyone has to race on two sets of tires. reds and blacks I believe.

****-ton more interesting in NASCAR.

Austin has a lot of cool shit going on down there.

SXSW film & music festival
Republic of Texas (ROT) Motorcycle Rally in June
Now the Formula 1 race is there
Austin City Limits
Salt Lick BBQ
6th Street
Tons of live music

All kinds of stuff.

Plus it's a big college town so lots of chicks running around.

Wasn't that like a rookie mistake? Cold tires going into the first turn? You hear what he said about it?

I've seen several cars hit that exact wall this weekend.

Pirelli picks two compounds for each track. As long as it doesn't rain, each driver has to use both. If the intermediate or full wet tires are used, then that requirement disappears.

Demonpenz 03-25-2013 10:25 PM

James Henchcliff won this race.

Demonpenz 03-25-2013 10:28 PM

James Hinchcliffe is the winner. Seems like a good guy. They are pushing him very much on "Wind Tunnel" on Speed. So there you go. I am surprised to see that the course didn't allow side by side racing all the way around, there were was a couple places that it looked like there wasn't room for two cars. I also noticed that the shifters are on the wheels like F1 I remember when the split was in IRL IRL wanted to have H shifters and they wanted drivers to use a clutch. Guess it is going the other way again to more advanced racing.
