That's cool and a fun gig for you Carlota. While in college I worked for a concert promoter as security, hospitality and chauffeur. I had a great time being around the bands.

How long did you do that, a couple of weeks? |

You should have only asked him questions that are directly from their songs.

Should have asked him what the lyric in "Rocket" is. You know..."Rocket. Yeah. looby-do-do doobie doobie da". I've always wondered just what in the **** he's saying there. I could just look it up on google I guess...

Did you ask him why Love Bites sucks so hard?
|
I bet you'd love to book an interview with Mr. West Virginia Chocolate Pinis.
|
Did you ask him why they stopped playing Rock and Roll after High and Dry?
They have not had a good album out since. |
Did you blow him?

Thats a pretty snappy deal, Carlota. Joe Elliott was decent in the Highn'dry era. Very ambitious dude. Wanted to shit can everyone but Sav after Pyromania. Almost got his wish though not the way he intended.

I had friends that went to the opening show at the Joint that were absolutely blown away. Not only did the band sound great but they looked great, too. Phil Collen is 55 years old and ripped from head to toe. These guys aren't amateurs.
Def Leppard has a long history. They were a rock band from the beginning. Their second record, which was produced by Mutt Lange, showcased their future. They fired Pete Willis after writing most of Pyromania because he was an alcoholic, which is ironic because he's still alive and Steve Clark, the other alcoholic guitarist in DL, is dead. When they went into the studio for Hysteria, they wanted to create something epic. That record took more than 3 years to record, more than 100 vocal tracks in many songs, and is viewed by people inside the music industry as a masterpiece. The record company spent more than $5 million dollars to record that album and were rewarded with riches nearly 30 fold. In full disclosure, I didn't like Pyromania or Hysteria at the time of their respective releases. I thought they were too electronic sounding and too phony. Now, I view them as master works of the era. Congrats, Carlotta, for an entertaining interview! |
Horrible band
Why would anyone care what this idiot has to say? |

from all those years of my brother playing the record over and over and over and over and over agagin. since I was 8 I've hated them. |

I'm no exception as I purchased pyromania circa 83'. Thought I was cool shit rockin with my one speaker " boom box". |

For instance, I was a huge Led Zeppelin fan, but I pretty much instantly switch the station if they come on. I think they're a great band. Their music is super important. I can hardly listen to them now though. |

Pete Willis WAS fired and replaced with Phil Collen because he was an alcoholic, late for rehearsals, songwriting sessions, etc. The guy sells real estate now. Joe didn't want Rick Allen fired nor Steve Clark or Savage fired. That's complete and utter nonsense. After Clark's death, they only wanted a British guitarist, due to their chemistry, so no American guitarists were even considered. They eventually settled on Vivian Campbell, but he's only a paid player and not a full member. The runner up is a very good friend of mine that went on to work with Alanis Morrisette for years and is now a successful producer in his own right. And quite honestly, he's a better guitarist. |

I heard Van Halen I/II/Fair Warning, Rush, Led Zeppelin, ACDC, Pink Floyd, Sabbath, DIO etc, coming out of my brothers' rooms for years. I'm not tired of any of them; not sure why Def Leopard rubs me the wrong way. |
Why would anybody rag on Def Leopard? They rock!

They're a pop band with tons of vocals and vocal harmonies. Pop. |

I'm sure you posted it a million times, but what exactly do you do in the entertainment business? |

Has anyone ever licked a chick's ass?

This isn't uncommon. For example, Zakk Wylde was an employee and never shared in royalties. He was paid when he recorded and toured. That's it. |

Serious. I have a friend who is an audio engineer for Warren Miller and he has some amazing stories from over the years.

I worked in the music division of MCA/Uni/Geffen and Paramount's Famous Division (which has since been sold to Sony). I'm not going to disclose everything in this thread but yes, I continue to work in the music business to this day. PM me if you're serious and will promise to keep any info private. Warren Miller films kick ass and he's always been kind to emerging artists. |

Have you heard Geddy Lee live lately. Yikes. It's a good thing Rush is still excellent instrumentally. |

Def Leppard is no longer good, they're older and haven't adapted to change, Steven Tyler from Aerosmith has been smart enough to keep himself marketable.
Besides when it comes to rock - most went from Motorhead to LA Guns then to Metallica - then Ministry and then took off onto the road less traveled listening to other artists such as Primus, Overkill, Fugazi The Butthole Surfers, etc etc.. I had a hard problem not turning my head on that Ratt sound, once 1988 passed, quite honestly. Though I had it at the time, Out of the Cellar was a great piece of work, back then. Most never could convert, Bon Jovi - laugh all you want, was one that could self-market himself throughout time. I think the ear needs to get away from that style of rock - it's ok to reminisce too - or whatever, but that style won't be considered 'classic' for about 7 or 8 more years, then at that time a re-visit MAY be necessary, but it may even be longer than that. I can give the rockers shit - they give the people who like hip hop and breakbeat shit all of the time. Besides I still like some rock, but usually the road less traveled. |
