Good deal on an AR15?
Gun experts of CP lend me your ears. I have a buddy who ground builds new AR15's and sells them, he is a wholesale gun seller, he deals with small amounts of sales and makes a lot on customizing guns. However, I contacted him about an AR15. He said he just finished one, and he wants $1100 for it. Here are the specs he gave me so far, I know a lot about handguns, but I don't know a blessed thing about AR's. Any opinions would be great.
It's a free float quadrail and it has an aluminum lower with all mil spec parts and it has a flat top upper which allows you to put whatever sights or optics you like on it. It has a 6 positional stock which you could adjust to any shooter and quad rail allows you to put grip or light or laser on it. Would also come with a 30 round mag. |

Yeah without brands it's impossible to guess at value. Right now $1100 for crap is reasonable, so if it's better than crap then it becomes an even better deal. Unless the lower is utter garbage you can always upgrade later.

Eh, generally speaking you can do better than that, but right now its damn near impossible to get your hands on one at all.
So if you want one immediately, that's a slightly inflated, but not brutally awful price to pay for it. |

psh.... money would go a long way online. does it even have an ejection port/dust cover? I'm thinking the buddy is trying to sell you on a sporty lower end AR-15 he built. |

I thought so as well, but I don't know enough about them or what even cheap ones are worth. Thanks for the post. |
Things you will want to know, if you really want to dork out on this:
1. What brand are the upper and lower? Additionally, who assembled the rifle? 2. What brand is the Bolt Carrier Group? are the gas keys properly staked? was the bolt magnetic particle inspected? shot peened? high pressure tested? 3. Who manufactured the barrel? what is its twist rate (i.e. 1 in 7 etc.)? is the barrel chrome lined or not? Is there a flash hider/compensator attached to the barrel and is it permanently attached? how long is the barrel? 4. Does the rifle come with any magazines? this is important because they are difficult to get right now. It looks like it only comes with one from your post. red flags: "All mil-spec parts" this is problematic because manufacturers are not honest and call something with a mil-spec finish mil-spec. But mil-spec refers to a lot, part dimensions, composition, testing, finish, and more. The claim that the rifle is all "mil-spec" is demonstrably false, because a mil-spec m4 would shoot full auto. Mil-spec doesn't always mean better, but it is a useful stand in sometimes. Clarify the bolt specifically. |
You terrorist. Only military and police and govt officials need high powered rifles!!!

If the gun is used, you should also ask him what his maintenance schedule is, whether he has attempted to work on the trigger (you don't want him to), and what lower parts kit he used.
Other useful questions: does the rifle have a forward assist? m4 feed ramps? f-marked front sight, if it has a front sight? does the rifle come with sights? is the buffer tube mil-spec or commercial threads? is the lower made out of 7075-t6? |
Do you need to buy now? Barring another even the AWB is toast. So would you rather overpay for something iffy or buy something quality a few months from now? Frankly unless you're in one of the states going buck wild, the only reason to buy now is if you feel there is likely to be another event in the near future.

You're better served to just wait it out. Rock River is generally seen as a slightly overpriced but relatively high quality rifle that you can almost always get for right at around $1,000 and have an actual manufacturer that you can go back to with problems, etc... You know you have the milled feed ramps with those guys, the staked keys; all that neat shit. I'd be awfully reticent to buy one from a friend without knowing a hell of a lot more unless I was getting a screaming deal on it - this isn't one. |
Buy as many as you can
|
It's also possible that your "buddy" built you a great gun and that was his cost. I've built a lot of quality guns for friends and only charged them cost.
Figure out the brands used or post a picture of the rifle and we can help you. |
Brands, brands, brands.
The rail could be TDI, Daniel Defense, Troy, or it could be a garbage 2 piece MTG. BCG could be trash, or it could be an M-16 BCG. Is the barrel hammer forged or is it normal? |

ammo is available if you look for it.
I know a guy...who has picked up 1000 rounds of brass for $.48 and $.50 in the past 2 weeks. |

I would have a stroke if I had to pay .50 for a piece of brass. That is horrific. |
not brass.....brass rounds.
a man has also picked up a couple of scary black fire bows in the price range listed by the thread starter....but if you are being sold an dpms oracle, you can get it cheaper if you're patient. with scary black fire bows, it's about like saying "how much is a car worth" |

I'd like to add is there a reason why u want a AR.. you can get a ak-47 or ak-74 for 700-1000.
|

It's all taste. If you want to fire off 30 rounds to hit something 100 yards away a few times get an AK, if you want to shoot the penis off of a flea at 300 yards, get an AR. |
I'd go with an AK 47
|
700-1000 for an ak?
Holy shit...I bought one not too long ago for 300 bucks Posted via Mobile Device |

the small barreled polish AK's are the cheapest @ about 700ish. the Romanian AK's are going for high 700 to low 800s. Its a dam crime to see these so high.

Nobody was buying it, but JFC. Those things went for 350 bucks 4-5 months ago. |
