Budweiser introduces bowtie-shaped can.

Budweiser is turning to modern technology to emphasize a piece of its past.
The company is unveiling a bow tie shaped can that will mirror the brand's longtime bow tie logo. The can will be available in eight-packs nationwide beginning May 6 and is the result of several years of technological advancements and investments at the breweries can-making facility in Newburgh, N.Y.

"We explored various shapes that would be distinguishable in the marketplace but also viable from an engineering standpoint," said Pat McGauley, vice president of innovation for Anheuser-Busch. "Aluminum can be stretched only about 10 percent without fracturing, which requires that the angles of the bow tie be very precise."

Budweiser officials say creating the can requires a 16-step process-10 steps to form the bottom part of the can and the rest to form the top.
While the new design is the result of technological innovation, it is ultimately the result of consumer research.

"This can is certainly a conversation starter: eye-catching, easy to grip, trendy and according to our research very appealing to young adults" McGauley said.

Consumers will be giving up about an ounce of beer to get that conversation started. The new can holds 11.3 ounces rather than the standard 12 ounces. The bow tie can is not replacing the traditional 12 ounce can and will be available only in the United States.

The Budweiser bow tie first appeared in national advertisements in 1956. The brewery says the bow tie look was introduced when too many consumers were using the term "Bud" when ordering the beer in a bar. So the company added the double triangles to emphasize the full Budweiser name.

It's hard to find regular Michelob (at least outside of St. Louis). Most bars up here sell Michelob Ultra, which is probably the best of the crappy super light beers.

The last time I had Michelob at a bar was in St. Louis.

I'm ashamed to say I drink some busch light when I'm playing softball. It's the best tasting domestic swill in a can down at the convenience store so that's what our whole team buys.

Michelob is still sold, but only in bottles. AB-InBev recently discontinued all draft production of Michelob.

I never drank a lot of Michelob, but remember it wasn't bad.

On my 21st bday I stopped at the store & got a 6 pack of Michelob Dark bottles & some steaks for dinner. The bitch checkout lady never carded me.

I have a Coors Light can in my beer fridge that's been in there since they started making those stupid things. I stole it from a friend of mine and leave it in there as my 'thermostat'.

Thank God that can is in there, otherwise I would have no idea if my beer was cold.

335ml is the standard size can in Britain/Scotland for soda cans. InBev is a european company, oh BTW 11.3oz is 335ml.

I used to drink bud out of the bottle exclusively whilst in the Navy.
I still really enjoy a super cold one, or 5, out of the bottle. But have since moved onto more flavorful beers.

We always called Budweiser "Diesel" growing up. Haven't had one in about 10 years. Don't think the bow-tie can will be changing that.

Bud's Black Crown has been very enjoyable...as one who has drank many o'Bud, I really enjoy the extra flavor in the Black Crown. It's not for everyone, but it's slightly cheaper than the 'I have a stick up my ass micro brew' and still has some flavor over the light lager.

I stay away from the Bud Heavy. I'll drink it if it's given to me. I'm sure I'll crush tons of Bud Light and Bud Light Lime this summer at the lake and pool, though.

Oh, and first time I got drunk in my life was about six Bud Lights and some wine in this guys fridge that the cork had broken up and fell down into the bottle. My first hangover was a miserable one.
