Budweiser introduces bowtie-shaped can.
Budweiser Dresses Up Its Can With a Bow Tie
By Tom Rotunno | CNBC – 18 hours ago Budweiser introduces bowtie-shaped can. Budweiser is turning to modern technology to emphasize a piece of its past. The company is unveiling a bow tie shaped can that will mirror the brand's longtime bow tie logo. The can will be available in eight-packs nationwide beginning May 6 and is the result of several years of technological advancements and investments at the breweries can-making facility in Newburgh, N.Y. "We explored various shapes that would be distinguishable in the marketplace but also viable from an engineering standpoint," said Pat McGauley, vice president of innovation for Anheuser-Busch. "Aluminum can be stretched only about 10 percent without fracturing, which requires that the angles of the bow tie be very precise." Budweiser officials say creating the can requires a 16-step process-10 steps to form the bottom part of the can and the rest to form the top. While the new design is the result of technological innovation, it is ultimately the result of consumer research. "This can is certainly a conversation starter: eye-catching, easy to grip, trendy and according to our research very appealing to young adults" McGauley said. Consumers will be giving up about an ounce of beer to get that conversation started. The new can holds 11.3 ounces rather than the standard 12 ounces. The bow tie can is not replacing the traditional 12 ounce can and will be available only in the United States. The Budweiser bow tie first appeared in national advertisements in 1956. The brewery says the bow tie look was introduced when too many consumers were using the term "Bud" when ordering the beer in a bar. So the company added the double triangles to emphasize the full Budweiser name. http://l.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/Zgt...h_original.jpg |

Next thing you know we will be parachuting a rover onto Mars. Amazing.

it's like repainting a Yugo and trying to sell it. "But see?!....it's BLUE this time. BLUE!. Isn't that awesome?!"
|
bowties wont make it taste any better
|
|
“Hey, what’s a gimmick we can use to sell 8 cans with 11oz for the same price as 12 cans with 12oz?”

I see that the big 3 American beer makers are still mainly concerned about marketing gimmicks rather than making a better tasting beer. :shake: Between bow tie cans, cyclone spout bottles, and mountains turning blue when it's chilled bottles how will we ever decide? ROFL

Don't drink much beer anymore but will have to try to find some. |
I'm ashamed to say I drink some busch light when I'm playing softball. It's the best tasting domestic swill in a can down at the convenience store so that's what our whole team buys.

Holy crap, Busch is bad enough on its own - I don't even want to think about how bad Busch Light must be. We drank that shit in high school because it was cheap and we didn't know any better. Tried some about 10 years later because I was feeling nostalgic and nearly projectile spat it across the room. Yuck. |

I used to love Michelob bottles. great ice-cold beer on a summer day fishing or hanging out.

ITT: A bunch of fat, bald guys with goatees acting like their palates are too refined to drink a Budweiser.

But... but...... how will I know when it's cold enough to drink?
|
"here you go Tom; here' sthat Coors light you wanted"
"WAIT! Stop before you toss it and make sure you can see the blue mountains"! "Whew...thanks for the reminder; close call. (looks at the can). Ok, we're good to go" |

With new can shapes, and with the cold-sensing stuff in those blue mountains, I wonder if they could make a can shaped like a woman in a bikini, and you know it's cold enough when she nips out. Because I think that would be a big seller.

I never drank a lot of Michelob, but remember it wasn't bad.
On my 21st bday I stopped at the store & got a 6 pack of Michelob Dark bottles & some steaks for dinner. The bitch checkout lady never carded me. |

Thank God that can is in there, otherwise I would have no idea if my beer was cold. |

People buy stupid shit that they don't need because it catches their attention. Welcome to America.

Will this make them crush easier for the hobos that pick them up behind the redneck bars?

Yeah, I've got Hacker Pschorr and Sam Adams in the fridge, but hey, I saw these stupid new cans, so I'm going to run out and buy a reduced size/same price 6-pack of hypercarbonated Clydesdale piss and drink that instead!

no biggie as long as they don't try to sneak a size cut in there. |
Guess they have to redesign the koozies now.

I used to drink bud out of the bottle exclusively whilst in the Navy.
I still really enjoy a super cold one, or 5, out of the bottle. But have since moved onto more flavorful beers. but a ice cold lager in the summer is hard to beat. |

We always called Budweiser "Diesel" growing up. Haven't had one in about 10 years. Don't think the bow-tie can will be changing that.

I stay away from the Bud Heavy. I'll drink it if it's given to me. I'm sure I'll crush tons of Bud Light and Bud Light Lime this summer at the lake and pool, though. Oh, and first time I got drunk in my life was about six Bud Lights and some wine in this guys fridge that the cork had broken up and fell down into the bottle. My first hangover was a miserable one. |
