They should get this one in. But it will not be a very pleasant game.

All northern teams or rustbelt teams should have retractable roofs like Milwaukee.

Couldn't agree more. Like I was saying to someone else yesterday, it hot as hell in Phx. Hot enough to postpone games in the summer. What did they do when building a new stadium? They took that possibility out of the equation by adding a roof. It's an open air stadium when it needs to be, but it's a dome when it needs to be too.

If it rains every other day for a quarter of your baseball season where your team is located...get a ****ing roof.

Minute Maid Park in Houston is a restractable roof stadium as well because Houstons summers are notoriously hot and humid.

I actually looked that up during the Boston situation.

There have been a few triple-headers played in the ancient days of baseball (before 1920), but they are now banned in the CBA.

The closest we can ever get to a triple-header is if a suspended game (not to be confused with a postponed game, suspended games are tied after 5 innings) was resumed before a double-header, and even then thats only allowed if there's literally no other option.

That'd be a real interesting sight. By the third game they'd all just be thinking "**** this", wanting to just get home.

KC +160

That line is so obscene, I might have to look into acting on it.

Ouch. As you may have guessed I'm not one for wind chill, I always feel for athletes that have to play in the cold.

Archie F. Swin 04-24-2013 10:07 AM

We also have to hope the field drains well enough that its playable by game time.

mr. tegu 04-24-2013 11:39 AM

The announcers say this is the record for the coldest game ever played yesterday in Colorado, but the description from MLB says it is the record for the coldest game in Colorado. Either way, it is 23-25 degrees and there isn't even a hint of sun.

Embedding doesn't seem to want to work. Here is the link. Just a few brave people showed up.

alnorth 04-24-2013 11:46 AM

I really don't think we even need Detroit any more. That city is shrinking, its just a crime-ridden hellhole now.

They should just burn Detroit to the ground, and move those sports franchises elsewhere. Maybe Oklahoma City.

Demonpenz 04-24-2013 12:04 PM

I have played games in high school in the 20's. your eyes water, glove is hard, glove is hard to squeeze because the leather is hard. You can't feel the call hit the glove..the glove just kinda moves. Hard to get a grip on the ball. If you get jammed at the plate it feels like hornets are stinking your bones. If you hit the ball on the sweet spot it still feels like you got jammed.

alnorth 04-24-2013 12:08 PM

Prediction: both pitchers get absolutely shelled. Royals win a long homer-filled slugfest, 10-8

I think it could also go the other way. None of the batters can get any air under the ball, and the Royals win in a redux of Davis' second start, 1-0.

(Poor Davis)

I don't want those people living any closer to Kansas City than they already do. Move them to Puerto Rico.

If the Chiefs are 9-7 after 16 games, this place will meltdown. We have already heard those folks say that. At least if the Chiefs get to 10-7, it will have meant the payoff win drought is over!;)

If you want the football analogy, the Royals won the first game of the season. Every 11 games equals an NFL schedule. Right now they are up 4-2 at halftime of game 2.
