Who will be the backup QB by the end of the year?

Simple enough...does Tyler Leaf pass up butt-chin by the end of the year?

Stanzi will get cut so he isn't an option.

Mr_Tomahawk 04-28-2013 07:43 AM

Probably my best thread ever.

milkman 04-28-2013 07:44 AM

Chase Daniel.

Tyler Bray has a shit ton of dumbassery that needs to be coached from him before he ever sniffs backup.

milkman 04-28-2013 07:45 AM

And, honestly, everyone is dismissing Stanzi far too early for Bray.

Stanzi isn't all that, but he isn't nearly the dumbass.

BigMeatballDave 04-28-2013 07:47 AM

Booger-eater

DaFace 04-28-2013 07:49 AM

I don't get it.

RealSNR 04-28-2013 08:10 AM

It will be "open competition"

And butt chin will win it whether he deserves the job or not.

warpaint* 04-28-2013 09:02 AM

he's a ufa. this place gets too worked up over them in general.
if he's on the team in 2 yrs he will have beaten the odds.
cd = backup.

arrowheadnation 04-28-2013 09:08 AM

<---refuses to vote in this poll as Dayne Crist was not included as an option ;)

BlackHelicopters 04-28-2013 09:10 AM

Hard to choose when you are choosing one Pro Bowler over another Pro Bowler.

Cmd'r&Chief 04-28-2013 09:22 AM

I find it hard to believe our $3 million a year Chase Daniels won't be the backup

This. There wont be enough reps in practice for the other qbs to get notice.

Preseason games are the only chance Bray has to show case enough that he deserve to be on this team let alone as back up.

jd1020 04-28-2013 09:41 AM

By the end of the year?

Hmmmm...

Daniel will be around at the end of the year, but soon after the year turns over hopefully its Bray.

Daniel is virtually on a 1 year contract, is he not?

notorious 04-28-2013 09:42 AM

Will Daniel be considered the backup when Alex goes down for the season?

ILChief 04-28-2013 09:45 AM

Daniel. Bray needs the stanzi treatment this year. They need to monitor his attitude and maturity this year. If he works hard and isn't a douche, he can be the backup next year

Predarat 04-28-2013 09:49 AM

Alex Smith will be the backup, one of the others will be the starter after he fails during the first part of the season.

HoneyBadger 04-28-2013 10:00 AM

Smith.

Chiefaholic 04-28-2013 10:31 AM

Daniels has NFL experience, while Bray is considered an athletic project. It's kind of obvious Chase will be the backup this season and likely next year.

The way Daniels contract is structured, he'll be here a minimum of two seasons. it's a 3 year $10 million contract with a $3 million bonus. Base salaries are $800K, $2.4 million, and $3.8 million. $4.8 million guaranteed (signing bonus + 2013 base + $1M of 2014 base). It would cost the Chiefs $600K to cut Daniels after year 1 and have a $2.8 million savings after year 2. Deal can void after any season in which he passes for 2,000 yards and 12 touchdowns, which isn't likely.

That's the real question, IMO. How many games will AS start before injury or other?

DaWolf 04-28-2013 11:16 AM

We didn't pay Chase to be inactive Sundays. Unless he completely sucks, he's it.

I would be shocked if Bray makes the team at this point...

You would be shocked that he made the team?

They poached him from the Dolphins by offering him more money and he's competing against Stanzi and Tanney.

He's still an UDFA. It's not like he's a first round pick. What if Stanzi outplays him? He's already sat for two years learning the NFL game. I don't know if that's completely unrealistic.

Did you not watch the preseason last year?

All Stanzi has learned is that he's not going to be in the league much longer and needs to start saving up his money by avoiding the barber.

On the worst team in the league, with the worst coaching staff in the league?

So tell me... What do you think he learned from the worst coaching staff in the league?

hometeam 04-28-2013 11:25 AM

Bray =/= Stanzi

Now I do feel like he is probably a better prospect than Stanzi, but reality is, he isnt going to dress for gameday unless there is an injury. So in essence, he MAY be the backup QB by the end of the season by default.

I don't know what this is supposed to mean. I thought Cassel outplayed Stanzi in the preseason... I've never been one of the Stanzi nuts. I think that was clear. But I think he has talent though, I never wanted to give up on him.

That said, Bray once went 5-30 passing in a spring game. There's absolutely the possibility Stanzi outplays him in the preseason.

R8RFAN 04-28-2013 11:27 AM

you already have a backup QB starting..

Not a damn thing, which is, in part, my point.

None of these guys were put in any kind of position to succeed, which is the bigger point.

What we should have learned, through the years, is that Matt Cassel, working for an OC that adapts to his limitations, can be productive, albeit limited when the OC hides hides flaws.

When you have a staff as incompetent as the one that was in place, none of these guys had any chance to learn, grow, develop, or be productive.

rico 04-28-2013 12:19 PM

We couldn't gather a damn thing from what we saw of Stanzi in the preseason last year. Seriously...we could take nothing from it for the circumstances on every down he played seemed so awful....He had someone in his ass a millisecond after the ball being snapped every freaking play. It was atrocious. I mean, he didn't exactly do himself any favors, but as far as Stanzi's Chiefs preseason play goes, in two years, we haven't been given an adequate sample size given the few amount of snaps and the atrocious play by his supporting cast.

Hell, Reid said so himself:

“I watched a ton of his (video) from college,’’ Reid said. “I watched all of it. I watched everything he has from here. There’s just not that much of it. That’s a hard (evaluation). You want to see them in games. I’ve heard good things about him, both of those guys (including Cassel) and actually Brady, too. But with Stanzi you just don’t have as much information.

“There’s probably not enough on Ricky (to have an informed opinion), certainly not enough on what we’ll ask him to do.’’

I perceive that as him saying that not only are there very few snaps to actually judge from, but the few snaps there actually are, are basically pointless....didn't show us or tell us anything.

keg in kc 04-28-2013 12:41 PM

Daniel will be the #2. I would imagine Bray will be the #3. I don't think they'd try to slip him through waivers to the practice squad, just too much talent there to risk that, head case or not. I'd be surprised if there weren't many more teams than just the fins and chiefs calling him yesterday.

Who the **** cares?

He's right, and it doesn't make a damn bit of difference what the Raiders QB situation is.

You, Me or anyone else does not have any idea how good the Raiders QB's are...

I am not saying Smiff is bad, I just think he is the same QB Cassel was for the Chiefs

This could play well for Stanzi just to get an opportunity to see what he can do. Honestly I don't see he could have been worse than Brady Quinn.
