What a Week's Worth of Groceries Looks Like Around the World

Mildly interesting. The Turks and I apparently share a love of bread.

They appear to like their processed meats, too.

Mexicans really go for the cola, while Chadians...not so much.

MTG#10 05-06-2013 03:37 PM

No wonder we're such fat ****s.

Donger 05-06-2013 03:38 PM

The American one is actually kind of embarrassing...

Seriously. Ragu Pasta Sauce? That shit is nasty.

I'd have what the Mexicans are having. And the Germans.

Bwana 05-06-2013 03:44 PM

Australia

Grandma looks like she about ready to go wrangle up a snake for dinner.

Demonpenz 05-06-2013 03:44 PM

America's the greatest country on the planet and our grunts eat crap. Could imagine how awesome america would be if we ate better.

Rain Man 05-06-2013 03:47 PM

The funny thing is that you compare what we're eating to what the Ecuadorans and Guatemalans and Turks and others are eating, and we still have a higher life expectancy.

Because of our healthcare. Just wait until Obamacare goes into effect though /off to DC

Donger 05-06-2013 03:50 PM

Looks at all the "sweets" in the British picture. Jeezus...

And the Weetabix. I would have bet my left nut that there would have been a box or two of that.

Donger 05-06-2013 03:51 PM

So, is the cat in the French one a pet. Or food?

Sorry, I didn't word that very well. As I got the Brits, I said to myself, "Weetabix. There must be Weetabix." And then I saw it.

Should have guessed Digestives, too. A staple.

I was talking more about Grandmas hat. 10/1 says she's packing.

Seeing that football reminds me. I went into a Nike store the other day, and they had a bunch of footballs like that in a basket so I was messing around with them. They were smaller than a real football and made out of some sort of high-grip rubber, and man oh man, it would be impossible to drop a pass with those. They practically velcroed (r) themselves to your hand.

Gonzo 05-06-2013 05:02 PM

I'm thinking the Canadian one is a little suspect...
I didn't see one box of Kraft Dinner.

North of Somalia.

hometeam 05-06-2013 05:53 PM

why does the japense father look like Cesar from the original planet of the apes?

Also, is anyone surprised we look like a bunch of fatasses? I have seen this same thing done several times and its basically the same every time. Americans eat junk and processed foods while other people starve or eat more perishable type items. The more western your country is , the bigger of a fat ass you are.

Merica.

listopencil 05-06-2013 05:59 PM

None of those pics look like a week's shopping at my house. The closest is Canada but without so much processed food.

Pilsner 05-06-2013 06:06 PM

It's an interesting series.

Did they just pull a random family have them report what they ate for a week? In that case, it's pretty much worthless as a representative sample.

They likely did, and I don't think this was any sort of scientific experiment. Likely its just to say HEY FATASSES LOOK HOW FAT WE ARE LOL.

Yeah, I have a hard time believing that is what the average Chinese family eats in a week. It looks more like one or two months worth.

There are 2 packs of "regular" bacon below the fish and the dude is probably standing in front of the 24 of Labatt Blue, (otherwise known as Smurf piss).

However, the lack of Kraft Dinner is disturbing enough for me to cry "foul".

Lived in ecuador for a year. Those folks in the picture come to the city to sell fruits and vegetables so not sure if they're representative of ecuador in general. Most ecaudoritos I know eat rice and beans as the base for all their meals. Lots of fantastic fruits and vegetables, but shitty meats and lousy breads.

For the record, lovely people, but they make the blandest, driest food in the world in general. Would not recommend.

As far as life expectancy - it's a 3rd world country overall, what could you expect?

Pretty sad how little fresh fruit and veggies Americans eat compared to other countries. No wonder we have a fat-people problem.

PornChief 05-07-2013 06:12 AM

pretty sure the aussie one is on welfare. 160 bucks worth of smokes? probably sitting on 12 cases of VB.

I know other countries have mcdonalds type food joints, yet only american picture has any of that included.

All the chips n pop is really what kills that diet. It's not even really the meals, it's the in between meal snacky crap we (most of us anyway) eat. I don't hardly drink soda anymore, but the salty chip snacks I cannot overcome yet.

Dude, you need to look again...

Half the pictures have either Mickey-D's or KFC bags in them. Christ, even China has KFC. That kind of surprised me.

I know that I eat wayyyy to many processed foods. When I lived with my parents we were pretty self sufficient (huge garden, chickens {meat and eggs}, pigs, turkeys etc.), but since I have moved out I have gained massive weight eating progressively worse. I need to get a house with some land!
