Marvin Allen is the new Director of College Scouting

Looks like Atlanta Falcons national scout Marvin Allen will be the Director of College Scouting. Taking over for Phil Emery's position and will work under John Dorsey and Chris Ballard.

@ProFootballTalk: Chiefs hire Marvin Allen to serve as director of college scouting, per source with knowledge of hire.

In with the tweet before ChiefsandO'sfan

Of the two finalists, this is the guy I wanted. On paper, this team looks to be heading in the right direction.

I admit I really like this hire. I would've liked Morrow as well from what I have read but Allen seems to someone that may mesh very well with our current scouts. Most of his time has been in either New England or Atlanta... very similar scouting systems.

chiefzilla1501 05-09-2013 08:51 PM

Let's just talk about the complete idiocy and douche baggery of Pioli, that he went an entire ****ing year without a College Scouting Director. Unbe-****ing-lievable

ChiefMojo 05-09-2013 08:54 PM

Didn't Pioli pretty much have Nagy act as the Director of College Scouting? lol

RealSNR 05-09-2013 09:06 PM

Isn't that lovely? Hmm???

Dante84 05-09-2013 10:32 PM

Awesome.

The Falcons moved up like 20 spots to take Julio a few years back. Takes some serious balls to pull something like that off. I like that he was involved in that to some extent.

Gives me hope.

Yes you did. Bravo.

What you don't actually know, Rain Man, is that Mr. Allen doesn't like to be called "Marvin." Sounds so formal.

I know he's not the one making selections, but... that's a big pile of meh.

Honestly, I have a rule of thumb: the most important positions are QB, LT, WR, DT, and passrushers. At LEAST two out of your first three picks should be at these positions. You need to be the best-stocked at these position.

These drafts all failed spectacularly. I can forgive 2011 because they gave up the farm for Julio Jones, but....

Titty Meat 05-10-2013 10:24 AM

Another guy who sucks at drafting. Hell fit right in.

BlackHelicopters 05-10-2013 10:26 AM

All the pieces are in place. Book February plans now

It's good that we seems like we are getting a broader assortment of personal people.

Hope it works

Doesn't seem to me like Atlanta draft all that well but they have hit big a few times.

The executives/head personnel guys pick your first 2 rounds. In general, the 3rd day goes to the scouts. The Falcons' picks in the 3rd day are not terrible. You've got starters at Guard, Right Tackle, Middle LB, Fullback, Nose Tackle, Punter, quality RB depth in Jacquizz Rodgers, and most of these players have been good enough to stay on the roster. That's not a terrible haul for a fairly loaded team in the late rounds of the draft.
