Jared Allen unclear about future with Vikings
Jared Allen: Future with Minnesota Vikings unclear
83 By Marc Sessler Around the League Writer Published: May 24, 2013 at 08:42 a.m. Updated: May 24, 2013 at 02:17 p.m. Yesterday, we brought you a piece on Jared Allen, the All-Pro pass rusher who said he hasn't heard "one iota" from the Minnesota Vikings about a new contract. The six-year, $73.3 million contract Allen inked with the Vikings in 2008 is set to expire after this season. He'd like to play for the Vikings into the future, but he admits he has "absolutely no idea" where he'll wind up. "I pray about it," Allen told Dan Wiederer of The Star Tribune on Friday. "I talk to my wife. And we'll end up going where the good Lord takes us. But I don't know where that path is headed." Prodded for a best-case scenario, the 31-year-old Allen talked about the past: "Best-case scenario would have been that we would have never gotten to this point. Best-case scenario would have been the organization would have gotten something done (on an extension) a few years back. "Well, you know what? That's not the case. And I understand it. ... I'm just happy I'm in a spot where both sides are honoring the contract." The Vikings haven't bristled at honoring Allen's current contract because he's been one of the NFL's most productive pass rushers. He counts a whopping $17 million against the salary cap in 2013 -- and says he won't take a penny less -- but Allen is not going to earn another head-spinning deal at his age. His Vikings' future is very much in question. Follow Marc Sessler on Twitter @MarcSesslerNFL. |
The guy loves KC. Pretty sure he still comes here and has business here. Plus King Carl is gone.
Imagine him coming back and playing in our attacking system. JFC Jared Allen, Tamba Hali and Justin Houston in our front 7 would RAPE. 30 sacks from just 3 players. |
Alex Smith for Jared Allen, straight up.
|
Allen to KC next year...I'll dream **** it

Give them Baldwin and dexter.

He's a free agent after this year so he would be FREE.
He would be the Justin Smith type player that we need on this DL. :whackit: |
He'll be 32. It'll have to be cap friendly...
|
Well my fantasy of Tony G for the last year of his career is looking less likely. So I'll go with this for a while.

I'd love to have him back for a year or two. He hasn't had injury issues that would be a major concern, he hasn't carried extra weight and keeps himself in decent shape. Be wouldn't be a world beater at 32-33...but could still be effective.
One of my top 5 favorite Chiefs players. |
Like he's going to come back here to play OLB in his 30s.
|
Why the **** not.
He could be affordable. Hali might not restructure. |

Here's a thought. Let's not get guys on their last leg.

It would be okay until the first time Darren McFadden runs over him.

I still ****ing hate king carl for dropping him. It's really the kind of deal that make me want to hurt people.
|
Unfortunately, he will be looking for a PAYDAY. No way he lands here if things don't work out with the Vikes.

We have two good edge rushers and we netted a lot of good players with the picks we gained on the trade. |
Bring him in for..... a drink.

Jared is a 4-3 DE - he's a pass rusher. Could he make a transition to a 3-4? It's possible, but that would be diminishing his value to the team IMO. Especially at age 32, he's not going to be worth the money to us.

If Hali were strong enough to play ILB I'd have a raised eyebrow...

And you're a ****ing dumbass if you wouldn't like 3 years of his services. |

Jared will have a good time no matter where he goes. Maybe Buffalo could use the fading somewhat star power. AP takes all there is in Minny.
|
How are we at long snapper? Should we give a fourth for him?

I'm with him, lets draft replacements and stay young on the field and in the cap not broken both ways. Oh yea, dumbass. |

You likely get a 70% of his prime Allen and backsliding after another full season. Even if we ran a 4-3 it's a stupid idea. Sorry, the jury is back and found you guilt of being a stupid **** once again. |

He doesnt want to learn a brand new position this late in his career for (hopefully) an up and coming team, prolly wouldnt do it for a contender either. Glad we had him, he WAS the defense there for awhile... but that ship has sailed, time marches on. |

It would be fitting for JA to start his career here as a long snapper and to end his career here as a long snapper.

Anybody heard anything on Weigman or Saleamua coming back?

So he is going to make that entire $73MM and not sniff a SB.
We raped on that deal. |

Too risky, could get a DUI.

Ummm nope.Great trade for KC, hell JC alone is worth more than Allen is and has been since the trade. |

Would we still have drafted Flowers in the 2nd had we only had one first round pick? I dunno. It's hard to say. That trade allowed for the best draft KC has had in a long time and I still credit that trade more than Herm's over-rated scouting skills. |
Quote:
They got more than they bargained for. Allen was a better player for them than he was for KC. They overpaid for him in draft picks then, which is why I liked the deal. Great pass rushers are expensive man, and Allen is a great pass rusher. Nobody got screwed in this deal. People must have forgotten how bad of shape Minny's pass rush was in. They had been drafting bust pass rushers with 1st round picks for years. It worked out in exactly the way they needed it too. It worked out for us too. They didn't need Charles. They have the only RB in the NFL BETTER than Charles. We had LJ, whom I never liked due to his woman beating lifestyle and always thought was over-rated as a player. Their QB situation, including the fallout from appeasing Favre, is the real reason they've had problems and they've still had far fewer than KC has. |
