John Rocker says "Baseball was a better game with steroids"

LOL This guy should have kept his mouth shut for the last 15 years. :)

Well, he's not wrong. It was very entertaining.

Rasputin 07-10-2013 10:09 PM

As long as they have an * by their name & we know about it then sure what ever.

The thing is it's illegal to do drugs such as steroids so unless the laws change, they should go to jail with out passing go & without collecting $200.

That's exactly what I was thinking but it didn't make it a better game, it made it an unfair game imo despite how entertaining it was. I enjoyed the McGwire/Sosa HR chase too but knowing they were juicing kind of ruined it.

lewdog 07-10-2013 10:10 PM

The home run races of McGwire, Sosa and Bonds were pretty damn epic. He is right.

I agree :D

WhawhaWhat 07-10-2013 10:13 PM

The owners don't care. The players don't care. The media pretends to care. Fans only care when it's guys not on their team.

Demonpenz 07-10-2013 10:13 PM

Brady Anderson parking 50...seems legit.

lewdog 07-10-2013 10:14 PM

The only thing I have ever liked from Yankee fans.....when they pelted him with batteries on his run in from the bullpen! ROFL

Home runs are fun but I like it better when hitting 50 is a real accomplishment. I know that probably puts me in the minority... but watching great pitching is just as fun.

Pitchers took advantage too. Just ask Roger Clemons

tk13 07-10-2013 10:27 PM

That's definitely true. Makes what guys like Pedro Martinez and Greg Maddux did during those years really amazing.

Setsuna 07-10-2013 10:27 PM

It was more entertaining. It probably made it so wildly popular as well.

Duck Dog 07-11-2013 08:40 AM

Rocker is correct.

It's funny, the media and their willing minions always ripped Rocker, but everything he said was 100% true. And this is no different.

I just dropped $180 for two tickets to a game tomorrow. The last thing I want to see is some boring ass pitchers duel.

gblowfish 07-11-2013 09:21 AM

John Rocker = Kenny Powers

The thing is a lot of them had prescriptions from crooked doctors so its not illegal. It's just against baseball rules.

Also, you might as well just put a * by everyone's name.

Mr. Flopnuts 07-11-2013 11:23 AM

I haven't read the thread because someone posted a picture the size of Alabama in here and it's taking time to load, but he's right. The game was better with steroids. And everyone had access to them, so AFAIC it was equal footing. The HR chases were epic. That said, who doesn't respect Cabrera's triple crown more than anything Sosa or McGuire did?

Setsuna 07-11-2013 09:33 PM

Cabrera takes Extenze, he needs to be banned from baseball.

CoMoChief 07-11-2013 09:41 PM

John Rocker is right.

Baseball was the shit in 98. The game should be thanking those 2...not preventing them from being voted into the HOF because of ****in steroids. jfc who gives a shit.

Psyko Tek 07-11-2013 11:10 PM

to me MLB is less exciting than wnba and arena football

but I did like seeing the mcgwuire sosa HR chase
never watched a game just read about 2 guys saying great things about each other whiler trying to beat each other
thought they were classy
while being cheating low do mothers

KC_Connection 07-11-2013 11:51 PM

What's the issue here? Football is a much more entertaining sport to watch with guys on PEDs and so was/is baseball.

This. Even politicians just say they care to make themselves look good in the public eye. On the whole, does anybody truly gives a shit about PED use in pro sports these days?

Assuming they didn't use anything either, of course.

MahiMike 07-12-2013 12:28 AM

Society needs more John Rockers.

Greg maddux threw 88-93 mph. I don't know how foods would have helped him. Do foods effect pitch I g placement?

They greatly speed recover between starts and make it easier to stay in shape while on the road so much.

There's more to performance than max power and giant muscles.

stonedstooge 07-12-2013 06:17 AM

Gawd imagine what Bo Jackson could have been with PED's

Coach 07-13-2013 11:04 PM

Sometimes a pitcher's duel is a good one though. Like Saberhagen and Ryan. Or if one pitcher is throwing a no-hitter, like Lincecum did.

Psyko Tek 07-14-2013 04:37 AM

MY name is John Rocker, I am here to say dumb shit, and chew bubble gum...
and I am all out of bubble gum

that name needs to b a B movie action hero

My guess is that you've already seen that.

BlackHelicopters 07-14-2013 06:41 AM

Home run records were smashed throughout baseball, yet the Royal record remains Steve Balboni's 36. Something doesn't add up. Probably a conspiracy.

BlackHelicopters 07-14-2013 06:42 AM

Wonder if Rocker still enjoys the subway?

Worst game I ever saw was a double no hitter through 9 innings. Braves v. Cards at old Busch Stadium. Hot, humid, miserable day, sitting in the bleachers of that ghastly stadium with no breeze, the few balls that were hit rarely made it out of the infield, which was seemingly a mile away. Atlanta won, 1-0, in the 10th. Probably the closest I've ever come to experiencing a soccer game. I would sooner light my money on fire or donate it KU's athletic program before enduring another steaming turd like that. :#
