PSA: Ya need to spell it "Y-E-A-H"

If ya don't, it kind of creates an impression of you to the person reading your post. Especially if it is the first word in your post.

Ya know who ya are, so cut it out.

And don't begin sentences with "And".

Dinny

mikeyis4dcats. 07-22-2013 11:07 AM

yay = excited exclamation

yeah = acknowledgement, affirmation

ya= dumbass way of saying "you"

Garcia Bronco 07-22-2013 11:08 AM

And why not? It's okay, but like anything it should be used in moderation.

Reaper16 07-22-2013 11:09 AM

yea, verily

This. The "don't begin a sentence with 'and'" rule is antiquated.

My wife spells the first one as 'yea', which bothers me but I can't convince myself it's wrong.

The English language is so poorly designed that its rules are generally nothing more than loosely enforced guidelines on their best day.

If Hootie had gone all the way on his list, Dinny Blues would be a top 25er.

At least he should be. I don't know if Hootie knows who he is.

Unless she's walking through the valley of the shadow of death, it's wrong.

This one annoys the shit out of me. :grr:

Who is this Hootie person of which you speak?

Ace Gunner 07-22-2013 12:55 PM

ya, no.

SuperChief 07-22-2013 01:11 PM

I've always been unsure of how to spell an informal version of "you know." As in, "You know, I really think Von Miller IS on MDMA."

Most times I spell it "ya," as in "ya know." "Ya" implying a sound similar to "yuh." Is that teh dumb?

Beginning a sentence with "And" is perfectly acceptable these days. And that's not just for ebonics and twitterspeak. The rules have changed.

blaise 07-22-2013 03:17 PM

yea bothers me less than people over the age of 13 typing, "lol" or "prolly".

I used to be against starting sentences with "and", but recently I've started doing it. Like DaFace said, it's sort of an antiquated rule these days.

I always thought the proper spelling was 'y'know'.
