Jersey Etiquette 101

Is it okay to get a personalized jersey of a former player when the uniform has changed?

https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.n...72663294_n.jpg

To be fair, Saleamua is/was a stud, and the uni's haven't changed "that much" but still. It's kinda weird seeing this IMO. The good thing is that when you go retro/throwback, the jersey will never die out. I would almost never get a jersey of a current player unless I knew that player was gonna retire a Chief and eventually be in the ROH...but that's just me. I still rock my Priest Holmes jersey.

Thoughts?

Bigger question, what position does Gorilla play?

Hammock Parties 08-05-2013 07:02 PM

It's a hell of a lot better than seeing a McCluster jersey.

What is the etiquette about wearing a jersey of a player that has been traded? I want to know if I am committing a jersey faux pas when I step outside with me Mariners jersey with Ichiro's number on it.

ROFL. This

My step bro has a McCluster jersey. I told him it's gonna suck when we decide not to re-sign him. It was one of those Asian made triple stitched knockoffs from tara jersey.

No....because when it's all said and done he's going to be remembered for being a Mariner...not a Yankee..

Same w/ Tony G.

Like what if a Lions fan got a Barry Sanders jersey, but in the new Lions uni?

I think that's weird.

CrazyPhuD 08-05-2013 07:12 PM

So my new style Elliot #2 would be a jersey fashion faux pas?

lewdog 08-05-2013 07:14 PM

I don't seen anything wrong with it. If that was his favorite player, I think it is kind of cool since he obviously couldn't find that jersey being made anymore.

My biggest pet peeve is when someone wears a jersey of a team not even playing in the stadium that day. Like a Yankee jersey at a Royals/Twins game.

Weird? No. He's a HOFer.

pr_capone 08-05-2013 07:16 PM

I got my sth jersey last year and slapped kimble anders on there.

Sorter 08-05-2013 07:20 PM

I myself find jerseys itchy and irritable without a layer underneath.

I only buy jerseys of guys who have retired. You aren't wasting your money that way.

If I go to a mlb game out of state I'll probably wear a Royals shirt.

I still rock my SIPPIO jersey. Got on TV with it here in San Diego high-fiving him on the sidelines. Whatever year that was?!?

Guilty. Wore a Mizzou Jersey to a KU-KState game. Back when Freeman and Reesing were the QBs

Discuss Thrower 08-05-2013 08:06 PM

Hurrr your a creep if you wear another man's name on your shirt.

Hurrr, your not part of the team so don wear a ****ing jersey

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-05-2013 08:06 PM

I went to Arlington National Cemetery in 2010 and saw a fat dude rocking a Felix Pie O's jersey. I thought about sending it to Straight Cash Homey.

Those are two arguments that annoy the hell out of me. Why does anyone give a shit if you want to wear a jersey of your favorite player.

Don't wear giant jerseys.
Don't wear a jersey of team A, with team B hat.
Don't buy the wal mart jerseys. Get the "authentic" shit from yukijersey or another site for $40.
Don't wear team A jersey to team B vs C game.

Those are my only peeves.

Although I have no problem with a guy wearing a rivals jersey to training camp. As long as you know what you're asking for.

Oh and the ****s wearing Matt Cassel and Larry Johnson jerseys to training camp need to drink a gallon of anti-freeze and die in a fire.

Hats are ok IMO. Looks a little funny, but much better than a jersey to a game between two other teams.

AussieChiefsFan 08-05-2013 10:55 PM

I think that's fine. Also, If a player has been traded but played most of his career on your team, IMO that is also fine.

There is nothing wierd or wrong with wearing a Chiefs jersey with your favorite players name on it. Doesn't matter what era this or that. If it has to be "all that" you shouldn't be wearing it because it will have too much meaning.

I don't remember who we were playing but a GD Cowboys fan was waving a GD Cowboys flag at Arrowhead. :#

I was hoping someone would grab it from him and beat the shit out of him with the flag stick.

I was just busting your balls. Hats don't bother me as much. Jerseys at other teams sporting events though...

Dayze 08-06-2013 07:41 AM

only thing that drives me insane is wearing a jersey of a team that's not in the stadium that day. especially if it's from a completely different sport.

gblowfish 08-06-2013 09:06 AM

The STH jersey I got from the Chiefs last year was Otis Taylor.

Here's the jersey's I own now:

Dawson (bought from Pro Football HOF when he went in in 87)
DT
Gonzalez
Kevin Lockett (My wife is a big K-Stater)
Trent Green
Otis Taylor

I will not rest until Otis Taylor gets into the Pro Football HOF. His exclusion is as much of a travesty as Buck O'Neil being out of Cooperstown.

I'm not sure how it happened, but my youngest son's favorite player is Dexter McCluster. He's 5 so he doesn't really know what's going on. I think he heard an announcer say his name and he thought it sounded cool. He get's so excited I just don't have the heart to tell him that his favorite player has been completely worthless throughout his entire career.

underEJ 08-06-2013 09:53 AM

My STH jersey is Deron Cherry. I have one from 1985, but it is signed and I don't wear it. It was the first jersey I bought myself, first of 7, and the only one I wouldn't wear, so I got a wearable one. Now it is the only one I wear, pretty much, because it is the only woman's jersey I have.

They didn't offer customized jerseys for women until the last couple of years. It was Cassel or Bowe, and before that Gonzales or Green, no defensive players at all. It is really nice to not look like a red potato sack now. They have a really nice fit. I would encourage all women to go the custom route now, and take off all the damn pink shit. Now that is a stadium faux pas!

My friend has Saleaumua (also not the pictured one,) and she gets nothing but high fives at the games, though I guess hers is from his active days. He was awesome!

Until he learns, you should say that Kendrick Lewis is your favorite player. That's what good dads do.

I think its fairly lame for a guy to wear a jersey of another guy that is any younger than them, unless it is their kid. I quit wearing Chiefs jerseys around the time I turned 30 or so. Just seems weird to me. I wear chiefs shit, just not jerseys.

I haven't worn a jersey since I was 16. My biggest pet pieve is fans wearing red on red on red. If I'm wearing a KC shirt I won't wear the cap. One or the other.
