Alarm bells briefly ring for Chiefs’ Eric Fisher
By RANDY COVITZ The Kansas City Star It looked a bit ominous when Chiefs rookie offensive tackle Eric Fisher, escorted by club medical personnel, headed for the locker room Friday night during the first half’s 2-minute warning. Fisher, the first overall pick in the 2012 draft, started at right tackle against the New Orleans Saints and participated in all 14 plays of the game’s opening touchdown drive. As it turned out, Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Fisher’s injury was minor, a sore left thumb. But Fisher spent quite a bit of time in the trainer’s room with ice on the thumb after the 17-13 loss to the Saints. “I just banged up my thumb a little bit,” Fisher said. “My hands have been banged up all camp. We’ll find out more … but I’m feeling all right.” Fisher couldn’t pinpoint exactly when he got hurt. “You’re in a zone out there,” he said. “You try to remember, but sometimes you don’t. When I came off the field, my thumb was hurting a little bit, and I got it checked out.” After he was examined, Fisher returned to the sidelines and watched the second half from the bench with the rest of the first unit. “I had a blast tonight,” he said. “It was great to play in an NFL game. It was a goal of mine for a long time, and it’s a good feeling.” If Fisher is unable to practice or play this week, he’ll join growing list of injured tackles. Backup Donald Stephenson missed the past week after undergoing surgery on a broken pinky finger on his left hand, though he is expected to return next week. The club already has lost two rookie free agent tackles for the season, Dustin Waldron and Colin Kelly with knee injuries, and Tommie Draheim is out with a concussion. The Chiefs brought in another free agent tackle on Thursday, Hutch Erickson, who was in uniform Friday night. Besides Fisher’s injury, backup defensive end Austin Lane left the game with sore ribs, and cornerback Neiko Thorpe was dehydrated and cramped. |
Don't see it in the article, but I'm pretty sure during the telecast they said that x-rays on the thumb were negative.

X rays came back negative?
How about these other "finger injuries" that caused the guy to get thrown around by guys he was facing in practice? You good to go, Fish? Nah coach....sore thumb. |

That name reminded me of a bit, I think it was on a podcast, might've been on a TV show, but two or three guys were cracking each other up coming up with ridiculous action movie names. Strap Hunkman Swing Bigunit Hunk Schwantzmaster Burt Smokeybandit not those specific names, but something along those lines. |
Fisher played very well. The O line looks to be a very good unit.

I hope this doesn't become something that becomes problematic or an excuse for this guy. We have heard about him complaining about his hand during TC. Get over it.

I think the hand stuff came from John Clayton, not EF complaining

We've heard jackasses complaining about him complaining about hand injuries during training camp. Hopefully it doesn't become problematic. |

JFC some of you are just dying to find a reason to bash the guy. |
Albert struggled his first season and everyone complained then, too.
"Move him to Guard," they said. Now they beg to get him re-signed. Cut the guy some slack, let's see how he develops. Jesus |

Well, the point still stands. |

Albert got help on both sides from Waters & TE Brad Cottam, who was at Albert's side nearly every snap the Chiefs played during Albert's rook season. the next year they "took the training wheels off" and we have seen Albert making his way. |
Quote:
so quit making shit up...he had a great rookie year |
Quote:
Brad Cottam ROFL I know you hate Albert for some ****ed up reason. Just try to keep the bullshit out of conversation as much as you can. Thanks. |
Yeah Albert was taken first overall too. Oh wait....

but only after I put you in a british built automobile with the driver's side reversed and make you drive your way out of Manhattan while I follow you with a vid cam. because you and o. city don't have any ****ing idea what it's like to play both sides of the offense. but given this experience, you would at least have a god damn clue. |

When your sore fingers are the reason given for not playing as well as your peers and the X-rays come back as there being no problem...you need to stfu and play the game at a high level and play through the pain. FFS Ronnie Lott cut a finger off in the middle of a game. No excuses. |

Heh, that's what you think. I'm not looking for reasons to bash the guy. I'm looking for reasons not to bash the guy. I want to like the pick and I want to like Eric Fisher, but he has to prove he was worth 1.1 over any other player in the draft. He has to prove he is a stud OT in the league. I want to feel good about our 1.1 draft pick. So far he hasn't impressed me. I hope he gets to prove his worth this season. Right now I don't want to hear about his hands hurting for any excuse. I'm sure he is tough though he should be tough as nails for his position and where he was picked. |

Then AFTER they got done playing he went to get his thumb checked out, again no excuses form him or anyone else. You are building a straw man on this subject dude. Creating an issue that really doesn't exist. |

Sorry, Boss, I like a lot of what you write. But this is baseless and below the belt over something we don't know anything about. You're questioning his toughness and making a pretty bold accusation that he's faking an injury. |
O-Lineman have to get their hands under the pads.
If your fingers are jacked up, that can be problematic. |
