Greg Hall @greghall24 6m
KC Star loses another sports talent to blogosphere. Adam Teicher leaving @KCStar to be #Chiefs beat blogger for #ESPN. Details coming... |
OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cool. Can't wait for his deep articles to hit a national audience:
"Tim Tebow popular among christians" "Drew Brees is a good quarterback" |

Not a surprise. Was just listening to a podcast of Harlan on Petro's show earlier this week about how ESPN wants to take over the newspaper style coverage and have in-town beat reporters for all 32 teams. Most of us don't like him, but he's a no-brainer hire for ESPN, has all the connections here they would need.

"Lebron James Wants To Win Another Championship"

Jeff Legwold left the Denver post a few weeks ago for ESPN. He now covers the Broncos exclusively for the AFC West blog.
I assume that Teicher is doing the same thing. It's probably a good thing because now you won't have Bill Williamson's lazy ass covering your team. |
"Andy Reid should be careful of heart disease and diabetes"
|
Oh thank Jesus. Maybe they'll find someone who's motivated enough to write an interesting article. That dude has been mailing it in for the past 5+ years at least.
|
He's actually pretty good when he's on Petro's show.

This guy has been terrible at covering the chiefs for decades.

local newspapers are about dead anyway

He'll fit right in.

Apparently, the Star is replacing him with a Word 2003 template and a hotkey function.

All media is full homer due to the Pioli regime. Otherwise you don't get a bit of information. He did his best to get a few scraps. I'm sure all the "journalists" on CP would kick down doors and do their best Chuck Norris impression to get that valuable information. |

Is he taking over for Bill Williamson? They both offer the same hard-hitting thoughtful analysis.

Teicher is definitely boring and won't be missed, but let's not forget that a lot of this is just the nature of being a sports beat writer. You have a deadline and you have to write SOMEthing, even if there's nothing interesting to write about, which is most of the time. "Injured player hopes to return to field" is hella obvious, but at least it's an angle. He can write his 250 words, get his paycheck, and go back to work the next day ready to write another 250. Are we expecting Belcher-level drama every day of the year?

S.O.C. does not like Pioli or Cassel.

I didn't read his stuff from the Star. I enjoyed his banter with Petro.
The pseudo-journalist BS on this site is mind-bottling. CP: "If I had Teicher's job I'd tell every god-damned person the Chiefs' employ that they are worthless piles of shit! I'd tell Clark he's a dumbass! In addition, I'd tell the front office, "Why didn't you draft these guys? You ****ing idiots!!!! It's easy! Aaron Rogers, Adrian Peterson, Arian Foster, Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson, Richard Seymour" This NFL is so ****ing easy! |
The Star is going down in flames, most of the rats will be jumping off the ship.
|
I will say, his writing is better than Vahe Gregorian, the new "columnist" the star hired. He works out his thesaurus in everything he writes. He came over from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and really sucks the life out of a story with his pomposity.
Teicher isn't any great shakes, but he's competent. He's just bailing on the Star before they lay him off. |

What the ****? That idiot isn't qualified to write for a newspaper in Atchison and he's going to ESPN?
|
thank god
|
First Affleck gets the Batman gig, now Teicher gets a job at ESPN? WTF? Well actually ESPN isn't journalistism based anymore so he fits right in.
|
I'm curious. Did Adam write articles that were not true? Too much homerism? Didn't align with your beliefs?
It's odd that beat writer gets so much consternation. |
Key word - ESPN blog.
ESPN is creating blogs for each of the 32 NFL teams. |

But I'm sure there are plenty of beat writers out there who can at least make their work somewhat entertaining. Teicher isn't one of them. |
If the guy is not leaving town and still writing about the Chiefs all of the time I would guess that a lot of his stuff will still be read by folks here. We might even have threads about something he writes.
|
"Alex Smith Hopes to Prove Critics Wrong"
"GM Supports his #1 Draft Choice" "KC Fans Hoping for Better Days" "Players on the Bubble Fight for a Spot on the 53" "Rookies Are Hoping to Make a Statement" "Clark Hunt Wants a Winner" "Chiefs Expect to Improve on their Record Last Year" I've now done Adam's job with obvious headlines for the next week. |

Yet another reason why I gave up on that field. Teicher sucked and yet I could never in 30 years get to where he was at the Star.
|
Judging by twitter, alot of folks think much more of the garbage Teicher throws out than I do.

It'll be nice if his replacement can elevate the work on a sentence level, though, for sure. |

wait, the kcstar is still in business?
i can remember years ago on 610, teicher said to the extent "i am not a fan of the kansas city chiefs". while i understand that he has to be partial, seems like he went bland and boring instead. just kind of seemed sad to me, to be honest. |

They probably won't because they are so stupid, don't you think? How is your journalism career going nowadays? Dinny |
His 'skills' are more suited to blogging anyway. How he ever got a job as a writer is just astounding.
|
Teicher realized that he could never top Karen Kornacki for asking the tough questions....

Eastcoast Sporting Network will get exactly what they want about the Chiefs, nothing to report...
|
Beat writing should be about breaking news and getting the entire story clearly explained, ideally as quick as possible. Teicher didn't do any of that. He never did any reporting himself. The people quoted in his stories are never responding to HIS questions. He's always taking them from television snippets or stuff that other people got. About the only exception is when he takes stuff from press conferences, in which case every other Chiefs writer and their mothers are getting and using the exact same material.
The obvious and sometimes redundant headlines were a joke, yes, but far worse than that was his tendency to get off-topic on basic information. He had no voice in his writing. Hell, half the time you couldn't even tell what the ****ing article was about even after reading the entire first paragraph. That's lazy journalism. Pure and simple. He didn't do a very good job at all. |
OMG where is our in depth Chiefs news gonna come from now?

Thank god. His writing is predictable and dull. Rarely does he write an original thought.
