Help me identify cowboy boots

1 Attachment(s)
I was given these cowboy boots last weekend. I was told they are Ostrich, but they sure don't look like the other Ostrich boots that I've seen on the internet.

I was told they were hand made in Thailand. There is a "Tony Leather" tag on the inside of the boot which corroborates this.

I was wondering if anyone here on CP might have an idea what these boots are made from?

Thanks ahead of time.

Along with your answer and some searching I believe you are correct.

My buddy has a pair and says they are much tougher than regular cowhide. They don't look brand new anymore, but they sure don't look 10 years old either. IIRC, he's had them re-soled 3-4 times and wears them to work everyday.

I've got a guy that knows all about cowboy boots. Let me see if I can get him down here to tell me a little more about these boots.

You're not going to wear those are you?

Stingray. I am wearing a pair right now. The whitish blob is an eye! Tough as hell. I have had these 15+ years and they still look brand new. In the sunlight, they glitter a bit. Kind of pimpish but I get all sorts of comments. They are pricey too. I think mine were $400 Dan Post. $400/15yrs = $26.67 per year. Not bad.

houstonwhodat 11-19-2013 02:17 PM

SHARK SKIN!!!!!!!!!!!

seriously.

Holladay 11-19-2013 03:20 PM

If you look closely you can see the white eye of the stingray. If they feel like 50 grit sandpaper, also indication of stingray.

Craash 11-19-2013 03:24 PM

Elbow Skin?

He probably should have used the OP to mention that they were given to him to replace these:

I will probably try them for a while and see if I like them. I'm not sure if they will be my everyday boots or not yet. I might not even keep them.

Something I find interesting is that the WHOLE boot is made of the stingray, not just the bottom part.

Anyway, I found the web site of the maker. Seems to have pretty good quality boots from what I can tell.
