I am wanting to buy a small pick up can be older whatever, does anyone have any complaints or suggestions on what to get? Ford Ranger, Nissan Frontier, Toyota Tacoma, etc. Also, has to be extended tohold a car seat.

Earlier this week I turned 250k on my '91 Toyota 4Runner, so I'm inclined to lean toward Toyota trucks.

Don't want to harp on it, but you really can trust Toyota trucks.

Just bought a 2014 Tacoma, happy with it so far course it's only got 1300 miles on it. Pretty good deal on them 0% financing and lifetime warranty on most things long as you own it...bought it at Olathe Toyota....seems to be the only one with the lifetime warranty, which is what sold me on them. Covers motor, tranny, 4wd, cV joints fuel pump water all that stuff plus all gaskets and seals..decent deal in my opinion.

Can't go wrong with a used Tacoma UNLESS the frame is rusted. Older models had a 15-year frame warranty because Toyota bought defective frames from an Ohio company; they were replacing them for free up until Dec 2012. Regardless if it's still within the 15 year warranty period, Toyota will no longer honor the warranty.

used to drive a Ranger for work, it was a POS. Had a 4x4 Dakota quad cab, and liked it alot.

kepp 11-23-2013 09:00 AM

Tacoma. I have a 2005 quad cab that just turned 150K and it has never had any issues (outside of normal maintenance or wear & tear).

I love my Dakota, it's been rock solid other than the shitty Chrysler paint. And the cab is roomy as hell and comfortable, I think they are very underrated trucks.

I have a 2005 Ranger and used to drive my '77 Trans Am because they got similar mileage

Buck 11-23-2013 11:13 AM

If you get a Tacoma you might as well go automatic because for some reason they get better gas mileage than the 6 speeds. I have a 6 speed Prerunner and get about 16.5 mpg.

Interesting. I get between 17.5 and 19 in my automatic.

I have a 4 cylinder Quad Cab Pre-Runner that just turned 150k and I wouldn't trade it for the world. I get 20 MPG City and 26 MPG Highway miles

I'm selling my Subaru Impreza WRX STI. No, it's not a truck. But it's AWD and with a shit load of power and grip for days, it'll take you anywhere in the snow. :)

I've been looking for the original Tacoma 2 door for a while. Hard to find. Always liked those.

That's not 100% true. When it snowed 13 inches a few years ago I couldn't get out of my driveway with my 400hp WRX :P . I ended up high centered sitting on the frame with all 4 wheels lookin like a snowblower shooting rooster tails into the air :P

(not that a small truck could have gotten out either~)

Squarebody? I see them on craigslist all the time. Just sold a single cab one today here at the dealership.

Yea, the tundra frames would bend when towing. Horrible, horrible trucks.

Dunerdr 11-23-2013 04:47 PM

Had a 95.5 yota great truck. No issues in 2 years bought it with 95k sold it with 120. The only others i have experience with is the newest body style dakota. Decent truck just dont feel right to me, and like all the dodges of that era the interior seemed to be behind the competition by 10 years.

rocks 11-23-2013 04:52 PM

Toyota, hands down. Never had a problem

redfan 11-23-2013 05:34 PM

4 things

1. If you're going to purchase a used vehicle, make sure you check the level of the antifreeze. If too full, go ahead and pour the excess into a mason jar and drink it all.

2 Burst. This place has lost it.

3.

Dude. C'mon, really?

4. I had a '82 Datsun 4x4 ext cab and put a little over 300k on it. Body was rusting out, but engine and drivetrain were still strong. I've had good experience with those older jap pickups(dats/niss, maz, toy). Damn things will run forever.

I have an adjustable suspension, ( a good one, not some cheap ass slam it to the ground bullshit), so we raised it a little bit today. Got on my accessport and did a little tuning today as well. I also have a set of Goodyear Blizzacks mounted up, and installed my new light bar today. :)

Bring on the snow.
