Prayer request...

Took my dad in to the doc early friday morning and found he has a brain tumor. He'll have surgery mon to remove it.

No real details yet and not sure if it's cancer or not until the tumor's out.

All thoughts appreciated.

Simply Red 12-21-2013 08:26 AM

Dang Brad man, I'm sorry bud, this is tough, absolutely will be in my prayers buddy. Hang in there.

gblowfish 12-21-2013 08:31 AM

Sorry that you have to deal with this right before Christmas. Just be the best friend you can to your dad, and think positively. Worries are like negative praying, if you know what I mean. So, be as positive as possible, and hang in there.

Rausch 12-24-2013 03:07 PM

Update: Dad had surgery mon and everything went well. Surgeon thinks they got everything out and want to do a round of chemo to nuke any leftovers.

Says he'll have to do an MRI every three months until the next of forever just to follow up and make sure no other tumors show up.

As of now the anesthesia has worn off and he has concussion like symptoms. Poor short term memory, math skills (lobe most pushed on by tumor) were poor, and he's very tired. He no longer has any strange emotional or personality issues.

Pappy Rausch will not be behind the wheel or at the stove for a while but everything considered we were very lucky. Doc expects most of these symptoms will go away with time.

We're not completely out of the woods yet but the worst case seems behind us. We're very lucky...

Very good news to hear, happy holidays.

Rausch 12-27-2013 03:48 PM

Thanks to everyone. It's appreciated.

Seems simple after walking out of the hospital after fighting the long odds of a difficult surgery. There's a longer and more difficult road back to normal. Long story short we dodged a number of bullets and he's lucky to be here.

The one thing I'd say is that any time someone in your family shows symptoms of a stroke or (early) loss of clarity jump on it.

I rarely respond to these things but I always take a moment to pray. This turned out way better than I expected Brad. I'm thankful for that and I know you are too. Very cool.

Got some bad news today.

Apparently his form of cancer is not an if but when. They've given us a window of 6 months to 28 months.

Good news is most people with this form of brain cancer don't even find out about it until it's too late to operate on or treat.

He's in good spirits and we're a ****ing stubborn a$$#hole lot. He'll live longer than he's supposed to if he has to grit his teeth.

Now that they know what it is he's in the 3% for even being alive at this point. His surgery should have left him without the ability to function normally. There are people offering him experimental drugs in exchange for care and neurosurgeons wanting to quiz him based on the outcome of his surgery.

This is all, suddenly, news to us as of 1 pm yesterday. When he went in it sounded like standard procedure and when he came out now he's ****ing Dorothy returning from Oz.

Brad...will continue prayers for him. Sorry the news today was so disheartening.

If it's any consolation, when they gave my Dad the same prognosis of time, he fooled them all and lasted 3 years longer than the Doc's predicted. If your old man came from the same generation as mine he will fool them all.

DaFace 01-01-2014 09:46 AM

Damn...sorry to hear the news isn't great, but glad that 1) you caught it early and 2) he's still got quite a bit of time. Many people don't get the opportunity to do everything they want to before their loved ones pass, so take advantage of the opportunity to make the next two years truly fantastic. Hopefully he'll be one of those that proves them wrong and keeps on ticking anyway.

threebag 01-01-2014 10:28 AM

Prayers to you and your family. I just lost a friend/coworker of mine to the same thing. He put up one hell of a fight. Lived a year longer than they gave him. Then a new one popped up. He went in for surgery. I was thinking he has this whipped. He had a stroke after surgery and never made it out of the hospital. He was blessed. Made it back to work for a year too. Lived like nothing was wrong except a big scar on his head. He even shaved his hair off and stayed bald.

BlackHelicopters 01-01-2014 10:33 AM

Continued prayers.

In58men 01-01-2014 10:35 AM
