Do the Texans take a QB if they have the 1st overall pick?

The Texans are loaded with talent and I didn't think Schaub was that bad of a QB, but I was wrong.

With that being said, Schaub's replacement, Case Keenum, is just playing OK. I can't see them going into 2014 with Keenum as their starter, but I could be wrong.

Do you think the Texans take a QB at #1 if they have the 1st overall pick, or not?

The Franchise 12-23-2013 01:29 PM

Yes.*

Subject to change depending on what they do before the draft.

I doubt Cutler becomes a FA and I don't think for a team like the Texans that Vick is the answer. They'd be stupid to trade for a guy like Kirk Cousins.

What would be your idea for addressing their QB situation?

Bullshit smart move is to trade for Cousins or McCown then draft Jake Matthews #1. That is what championship teams do. /truefans

My idea? Drafting a QB at #1.

Coach 12-23-2013 04:20 PM

The problem is, I don't see any QB's (subjected to change as on who may forgo their JR years) that is a sure-fire #1 pick.

I could see them going Clowney. That would be a nightmare for any offensive coordinator, having to deal with Watt and Clowney....

Seriously? You realize that the Chiefs don't have the #1 pick....so you don't need to make that stupid argument....right?

The title said...

"Do the Texans take a QB if they have the 1st overall pick?"

I was responding what I could see Houston doing on their 1st overall pick..... Not sure where you got the impression that I was talking about the Chiefs....?

The Franchise 12-23-2013 04:34 PM

And you used the bullshit line of "no QB worth the #1 pick".

Because none of these QB's are either Andrew Luck/Robert Griffen III hype....

They could go for Bridgewater, but as far as I know, he hasn't declared yet anyways....

BossChief 12-23-2013 07:18 PM

Dude, the Texans are gonna take a QB, no matter what.

The only question is which one do they take.

'Hamas' Jenkins 12-23-2013 07:23 PM

Only the Chiefs would dodge a QB in that situaiton.

BossChief 12-23-2013 07:47 PM

I wonder how much they scouted Manziel.

jspchief 12-23-2013 08:01 PM

Texans are in a weird spot. They thought they had a Superbowl team 6 months ago. Are they willing to hand that team over to a rookie QB?

I think Schaub deserves another shot. He's done so well so far...

Sell those tickets in Houston.

The owner of the Texans has already made claims that they're not going to draft a QB with their top 5 and likely #1 overall pick

David Carr is Texans' Todd Blackledge. Dumbass franchises.

Tribal Warfare 12-24-2013 01:49 AM

Just depending who the HC, the kid could get Shanahaned and could end up like RG3 because his coach doesn't give a shit about his wellbeing.

The thing with the Texans is that they have one of, if not the best left tackles in the NFL in Duane Brown. Now, you could do the bookend thing with Matthews, who has previously been the Aggies right offensive tackle, which wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing as I think that Jake Matthews is the best player in the upcoming draft.

You could go Clowney, but they just spend a first rounder on Whitney Mercillus and have Brooks Reed on the other side. Pretty solid on the OLB positions.

They could go with either Mike Evans or Sammy Watkins at WR as Andre Johnson is 32 years old.

Bridgewater or Manziel would also be intriguing, as Schaub basically had a catastrophic meltdown in terms of seeing the field this year. Who knows if he's going to ever be "the guy," but I'd think that they would go free agent versus put this team into a rookies hands. They know that they are close and this past season was an aberration. The Jay Cutler free agency thing could be a real possibility for a team like Houston if they feel that Schaub has run the course.

My bet would be Jake Matthews.

Have RTs ever gone #1 two drafts in a row?

Dave Lane 12-26-2013 03:08 PM

No no no no no.

Take a RT its the Chiefs way.

They would go Bridgewater. A new Coach, is going to want his guy.

Now, could they be the team that alledgedly is in love with Blake Bortles?

Possibly. But, Teddy Bridgewater is the only thing in this draft that is a franchise qb. If you do not believe me, or haven't seen much of him, watch his bowl game against Miami. You will understand what I mean.

People say he isn't Andrew Luck.

Cool. I see him more as a taller Russell Wilson anyways..

If that isn't "smoke up the ass" pre-draft talk then maybe one of those talented quarterbacks could fall to the team that picks just ahead of us? And then we could take a lineman.

Yeahhhhhhh.

When your owner starts making your personnel decisions, that aint good.

I doubt any new coach would want to hear that.

Especially with Clowney in full diva mode right now

Im not sure that is the way they work. They did pass on Vince Young and Reggie Bush to draft Mario Williams.

Clowney/trade back up/Manziel. Though my homer ass would just pick Manziel number 1

Brooks Reed is dogshit and Jake Matthews had a terrible year. Sac showing his ass again

I didn't say it was the correct choice. I was just showing that they have showed the reluctance before to grab the local HERO.

That's all.

Nor have I.

I think he wants to see if Bill Obrien takes the Texans job before deciding.

No he isn't.

Think about where he came from.

Who is more likely to be like Tom Brady.

The Brash Risk taker, or the ultra composed smoothe ultra accurate Teddy.

This is as much of a no brainer as I have ever seen.

McBeard 01-03-2014 06:57 AM

Clowney and Watt would be a pretty nasty pair of ends.

I think they'll probably take Bridgewater but Clowney is a possibility. This is a pretty good QB class.

This is pretty easy for the Texans. Find out who the Browns are seriously interested and draft ANYONE else and you will be ok.

Sorry man couldn't resist.
The Browns and Chiefs are polar opposites when it comes to QBs and the draft. But neither team has had success with the position either.
