Shattered Knee: My Newly Started Music Blog

So, I started a music blog last weekend, it's more like a zine as it's mostly music reviews and band interviews as opposed to my personal commentary. I'm especially shitty at self promotion, but I'm trying to generate some traffic to the blog itself and the Facebook page that supports it.

I've been doing this for a hard copy zine in KC as a guest contributor for about a decade. That's cool and traditional, but I wanted something with more reach. My goal is to provide some exposure to bands I feel are worthy as well as provide Kansas City some exposure in hopes bands will include us on their tours.

It's pretty raw. I'm still playing with layouts (Gadzooks should see something familiar in the background pic). I'm in desperate need of a proper logo. I'm thinking of running a logo design contest with a limited edition record and some stickers for the winning design.

Obviously, the content on here is an acquired taste, but feel free to stop by and listen to or read about some stuff you may not be familiar with. I'm also open to some guest contributions if anyone is inclined, anything within the metal, punk, and rap genre.

This is me whoring out for traffic, but I respect the music mindedness of CP, Metallica/Megadeth thread notwithstanding (i keed i keed).

I threw up the logo design contest on the blog yesterday. I've also procured a death metal interview from a band that finished strong in 2013.

This will be my Knowmo repository.

Metal fans, I've posted an interview with Tim Mullaney, Genocide Pact, to the site. Tim plays in a grindcore band as well so I was hoping for a commentary on the social differences between the two genres, but it didn't really transpire. It's challenging to get conversational through email/IM. He does drop some good nuggets though and lists some bands coming out of his area (DC), which is what I enjoy.

Check it out if you're into early Sepultura/Bolt Thrower worship.

Shattered Knee... I thought this was a Mecca thread about delivering Pizzas. =P

Ha, I think that was his hammy. I shattered my knee when I was 19, hence the blog name.

So, I've put together the content of my site into a print version fanzine. It's 32 pages of shit no one cares about but me. However, I'm giving these away for free; my contribution to music since I suck at instruments.

If anyone on the Planet would like one, send me a PM or go to the site and I'll mail it to you. Also, each copy comes with an individual BBQ sauce packet (consumed at your own risk). Don't miss out on this piece of KC underground forklore.

Hopefully this is ok with the mod group.

Thanks.

Outside of handing them out locally in KC, I've mailed issues as close as SW Missouri and as far away as Australia. Doing the blog is cool, but in a world of instant downloads, putting something in the mail with a handwritten note has been the best.

I'd totally read up on some reggae if you did it. I've got some Trojan box sets and listen to some podcasts from time to time. I certainly know next to nothing on anything current in reggae.

This is great! It's sometimes difficult to go find new music even with the net at your fingertips.

Very nice.

I refuse to read your blog until you have an interview of Troglodyte! :p

Lol, I just saw Troglodyte on Saturday. I'm actually thinking about doing an interview with them. Their singer and I both have an affinity for early to mid-2000's Razorback Records releases. We probably talked about it for half an hour on Saturday after he commented on an old shirt I was wearing. I gave him a copy of my zine.

I typically only try to review/interview bands that have something new coming out as to help generate exposure for that release, but I know Trog just got off a recent tour and I'll likely reach out to them for an interview at some point.

Nice Colle's fracture image. Couldn't find one of a knee?

I rushed that one when I put it up as I really intended it to be temporary until I could have someone design me something.

I originally planned to use an old copy of my own xrays of a shattered knee cap. There was one in particular that had the titanium rod through my femur with the screws of the fixator and the pins in my knee all in one view, but KU Med told me that they destroy xrays after a decade so I tried to find one on the Net instead.

Yup, 10 years unless you're a pediatric patient. Good blog, friend. Love the band name "Tinnitus".

Appreciate it.

Maybe I should do a "best of" bands named after medical conditions/diseases list for the blog.

Ah, thanks, I had forgotten his name despite talking to him on several occasions. Yeah, he's super cool and very knowledgeable.

So, as some of you know, my days in KC are numbered with a move to Chicago happening sometime in April/May. I'm going out with a blast(beat) with this metal show I'm putting together for March 11th. It's at the Sandbox on 39th. All ages.

It's only $5 but if you'd like to check underground metal show off your bucket list, I'll buy your way in and maybe we can drink a beer in the parking lot or something.

Hope this is sufficiently relevant here. Without the search function I'm not tracking down the 'what's are you listening to now' thread.

Was really excited to hear this, and it's gotten stuck in my head. I'd suggest a first listen without looking at the video, as it changed my analysis/estimation of the song [not necessarily bad, just not what I expected].
