Free Agents

Could the Chiefs afford to sign Walter Thurmond or Sam Shields and TJ Ward? If that happens then draft Darquez Denard or a receiver round 1.

KChiefs1 02-16-2014 07:42 PM

If Dennard is still available at 23, they have to draft him.

Titty Meat 02-16-2014 08:01 PM

Drafting a CB #1 would be silly

KCrockaholic 02-16-2014 08:06 PM

No, the Chiefs can't afford TJ Ward. Walter Thurmond and Sam Shields are more than likely out of the question as well.

No its not, it puts us in a position to be able to get rid of Sean Smith and Brandon Flowers next offseason. this will save us a lot of money against the cap.

No, keeping Flowers as your #1 perimeter defender is silly. He needs to be kicked down the depth chart no matter how much the team is paying him. Dennard in the 1st would be a blessing for this team's pass defense.

He hasn't been the #1 CB since like 2011. He plays the slot in the Nickel and Cooper plays left and Smith plays right regardless of where the #1 receiver is lined up.

Micjones 02-16-2014 10:50 PM

Ward's going to command a contract the Chiefs can't afford this offseason.
Thurmond would be a great signing, but seeing how we're wed to Flowers for another year, where is he going to play?

I'm hoping for a Mike Mitchell signing or Calvin Pryor at 23.

So Pioli paid $50 mil to a nickel corner who is barely serviceable in the slot? Jesus Christ our secondary truly sucks donkey.

Get rid of ALL these jokers and start over back there, herpity derpsky!

BlackHelicopters 02-17-2014 08:05 AM

No way Dennard is available at 23.

It's possible if he runs a slow 40 time.

Bowser 02-17-2014 11:43 AM

SIGN ALL THE THINGS

Titty Meat 02-17-2014 11:50 AM

Dennard isn't a #1 CB it would be a stupid pick with all the talent available.

Why haven't more teams tried this?

Signing all the free agents will give your team such an infusion of talent. You'd think more teams would try.

He'd be better than anyone on our roster from day 1, especially in this system.

Why do you think we brought Andy Reid aboard?

They can afford anyone they really want to get.

The question is whether the player is really worth the money.

Hoover 02-17-2014 02:34 PM

I think drafting a corner #1 makes the most sense for this team in the long term.

BossChief 02-17-2014 02:46 PM

Our corners were amazing until Hali and Houston got hurt....which gave opposing quarterbacks all day to find the open receiver, which in turn exposed our horrendous safety play and lack of our coaching staffs ability to make in game adjustments.

The corners weren't the problem.

It could also be that teams figured out that our coverage was poor and predictable.

Then they just threw the ball too quickly for our rush to get there.

our defense didn't get much better when Hali and Houston came back

Corners?
Safeties?
Pass rushers tired?
Coaching?

Direckshun 02-17-2014 03:19 PM

We definitely need to invest at corner soon. It's possible we cut both Flowers and Smith next offseason.

mcaj22 02-17-2014 03:43 PM

as they should be as that will free up a lot of well needed money

Direckshun 02-17-2014 03:45 PM

Agreed.

You can land a starter-caliber corner in Round 3 or even 4, if you're smart and/or lucky. Dennard is really the only corner I like in the 1st, but it's unlikely he'll fall.

If we trade down to the top of the 2nd, I'd look at Gilbert.

Losing Flowers and Smith next offseason means we have Marcus Cooper and one open slot (how fast will Ron Parker come along, one wonders...). It's either spend a midrounder on CB this year or burn a 1st or 2nd on it next year.

OldSchool 02-17-2014 04:17 PM

Some sites are saying that Verrett could drop as far as the 4th round due to his size. I think that's not going to happen, farthest he will drop is the 2nd, IMO, because some team will fall in love with his tape and pull the trigger. However, if he is there in the 3rd, he's a no-brainer.
