Did not expect to drop 60 bucks pre-ordering after watching that promo but WTH...

AC was one of my favorite franchises ever before the BS ending at the end of the 3rd game and the cash grab 4th. This game reminds me a lot of that. Hoping for the best.

Hammock Parties 02-20-2014 07:06 PM

I'm slightly worried this might just be a Deus Ex set in medieval times, but either way I'm going to be so ****ing down.

Also nerds are sperglording out over supposed changes in Garrett's character from the original games. Whatever. I just want to sneak around and steal shit.

Pablo 02-20-2014 10:32 PM

Want.

TLO 02-20-2014 10:37 PM

Looks pretty sweet.

millz 02-21-2014 01:34 AM

meh

htismaqe 02-21-2014 08:25 AM

Have you guys never played the original "Thief"?

This won't be Deus Ex, no. :)

And if anything AC borrowed from Thief, not the other way around.

They've been charting progress in GI and this game looks REALLY good.

Never heard of thief before. After looking at some of the GP from the "old" thief I can see how much AC "borrowed" from it.

I loved the original! Until I got stuck in some building and couldn't figure it out, lol.

It's going to be a lot easier for the developers to come out with an AC/DX knockoff, put a Thief coat of paint on it and call it Thief.

We'll see.

The hands-on preview in GI was pretty interesting. It seems to be staying with the old "attacking is a last resort" philosophy. Lots of stealthing.

jd1020 02-25-2014 09:15 PM

This game is getting beat up in reviews.

Sure-Oz 02-25-2014 09:40 PM

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/02/24/thief-review

IGN gave it a 6.8 'Okay' review.

I almost fell asleep during the review, i'd rent it before purchasing.

jd1020 02-25-2014 10:09 PM

I dont put much stock into ign and gamespot reviews.

I prefer to go to metacritic and see what the user opinion is, and when the user opinion is flooded with 182 negative reviews something is wrong with the game...

Overall by critics is a 6.9, either way doesn't look good.

I'm hoping Infamous second son is good

Mother****erJones 02-25-2014 10:15 PM

Thief gameplay didn't look good

Game Informer is generally pretty fair, and overall they line up more often than not with metacritic scores. It appears however that a review will be in next month's issue.

Infamous might be what finally pushes me to buy a ps4.
I loved the first two.

If you end up getting a ps4 and never played tomb raider, get the ps4 version of it. fun game, awesome graphics.

Similiar style to Uncharted

Fish 02-26-2014 05:49 PM

Original Thief was awesome, but it frustrated the hell out of me though. Admittedly, I'm not big on slow sneak-based games.

Still going to try this though.

Mother****erJones 02-26-2014 06:01 PM

If anyone has gotten it let me know how it is.

Mr. Laz 02-26-2014 06:01 PM

yea, original was a whole lotta creeping

Sound was a big part of it too, you had to have the volume cranked listening to the stupid guards talking and shit. LMAO

Actually I remember bounding through the levels with no repercussions. You moved so fast and the guards wouldn't follow very far. It was kind of disappointing that I could do that, really. I would typically reload and do it the proper way after.

ragedogg69 02-27-2014 12:46 PM

Price is dropping like a rock. I expect this to be like Tomb Raider. A good, but flawed game that under performs upon release so they panic and drop the pricing. Like, Tomb Raider, I will pick it up for $5 in a month or so.

$26

It sucks. It's not even as good Deus Ex: HR.

Quote:

A city full of closed doors and dead ends, boxed in and lined with nothing but rough edges: That's Thief.P

It's hard to know quite where to begin with a shambling mediocrity such as this. It's a game that could have been great and is instead a lumpy, frumpy disappointment, outclassed on all sides by its contemporaries and struggling mightily for a foothold in a world that's moved on to better things.
Quote:

An eager player might be champing at the bit to start exploring, but reality is far less exciting than it may have seemed at first blush. The City is obstinate and confusingly designed, and its sprawl is mostly an illusion. What initially looked free and open is revealed to be locked in irons, little more than a collection of cramped corridors stacked on top of one another and placed between you and your next objective.
Quote:

The City has more dead-ends than it has escape routes. It's constantly patrolled by dangerous guards, but if they spot you, whatever chase ensues will likely be brief, ending either with Garrett cornered or with the player taking advantage of one of several ridiculous ways to exploit enemies' shonky artificial intelligence. For example, you can begin to jimmy open a window and guards will immediately stop chasing you, even if they were right on your heels. Curses, he got away! 2

Simply Red 01-26-2019 06:27 PM

It's okay - I'm a bigger fan of Murdered Soul Suspect - by the same studio and about the same time of release.

Simply Red 01-26-2019 06:27 PM

not big on Stealth games

Me either. Generally when a game even has a stealth mission i try to find a way around it using brute force.

Thief is a disaster - the flow is dogshit. The weaponry is dogshit.

The newer AC games are more geared toward combat but I still play mostly stealth. Far Cry has some decent stealth elements too. The problem is, like Sofa King said, that there's usually a brute force way through and if you're prone to that, you'll use it. In the Ubi games, you kind of have to want to play stealth because it isn't really mandatory anymore.

Honestly, one of the most fun games I've played recently is a hunting simulator called TheHunter: Call of the Wild. It's completely, 100% stealth. It's a bit buggy but really really fun and challenging. Trying to get within 25 yards of a wild pig and taking it out with a 60# compound bow without getting sniffed or charged is pretty fun.

I used to think the same way.

I just finished playing Far Cry Primal a 2nd time on Survivor mode (extreme difficulty + permadeath). ;)

Simply Red 01-29-2019 09:28 AM

I will eventually get into Far Cry - I'm usually 3 or 4 years behind for some reason - I won't be that way w/ Dying Light 2 - that'll be pre-ordered.

I'm always at least a year behind simply because I can only focus on one game at a time. It usually works out well because by the time I play a game, it's patched up and fully stable.

After playing Origins though, I got kind of nostalgic - I played Far Cry Primal again (very different from other Far Cry games, takes place in 10,000 BCE) and am getting ready to play Black Flag again.

We clearly have a difference of opinion regarding gaming. I thought Primal sucked HARD. LOL... I've played every other Far Cry game repeatedly. Didn't play Primal more than a couple hours and said "**** this, gimme my guns back."

To each his own... :toast:

ROFL

Hiding in bushes and poking dudes with sharpened sticks is a blast. And if you see a bear, RUN. LOL

Rasputin 01-29-2019 10:33 AM

I had this game it was almost fun but ****ing couldn't see shit most of the time as you had to hide in shadows and so the game was dark not much can tell what the hell to do.
