The Dirdy Birdy Burger

March 4, 2014

This is a classic case of a racy burger flown a-fowl: A duck confit burger, scandalously dressed in fried chicken hearts, smothered in fig catsup, and bedded on a creamy spread of chicken liver pâté. This is certainly one bird you won’t be bringing home to umami and daddy.

I guess I am like Omaha in the would you thread. These don't do it for me. Especially the spam.

listopencil 03-07-2014 07:02 PM

My Bloody Valentine looks interesting. I have never tried raw meat. A raw lamb heart patty?

Psyko Tek 03-07-2014 07:09 PM

The site in the OP, it's down at the bottom left.

I'm a much bigger fan of this site. You've got to go to it just for the voice-over description of each burger.

2, 3, 4, and 6 look good... three sounds very intriguing, like surf and turf in a bun.

That is pretty cool.

MahiMike 03-07-2014 07:27 PM

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing. I'd try some of those.

ToxSocks 03-07-2014 07:38 PM

**** that. Gimmie a bacon cheeseburger and call it a day.

Im not into foods that feel like they're trying too hard.

loochy 03-07-2014 07:45 PM

So where is the regular burger? I'm not a fan of these weird burgers.

Sounds weird yeah, but I wonder what a shrimp bun burger is tasting like... probably not bad at all, maybe like taking a bite of steak and lobster at the same time.

No shit.

There has not been one moment in my life where I've been inclined to order the lung of an ox, the eye of a newt, the spleen of a shark, the testicle of a toad and the sphincter of a salmon on a golden toasted Focacia bread with goat cheese.

Wendy's mother****ers. Can you say Wendy's?

yeah this - Honestly very few even look appetizing.

Simply Red 03-08-2014 12:06 AM

Several of the options' assemblies of ingredients seem schizophrenic at best - they're not exactly chocolate+peanut butter.

Simply Red 03-08-2014 12:10 AM

No offense to the OP Listo - of course these are all very interesting to view and read. :thumb:

A burger isn't the same without the pink sludge

RippedmyFlesh 03-08-2014 04:21 AM

I guess I am too vanilla I like lettuce tomato bacon cheese mayo and ketchup and I am in heaven. And prefer bison doesn't make me feel weighed down afterwards.

Yes, I'm a traditionalist as well, although I had a nice burger years ago in Athens, Ga, that had a nice Fontina Cheese and a homemade bun w/ sauteed onions - it's was tremendous. I like blue cheese with my burger from time to time as well.

REDHOTGTO 03-08-2014 08:24 AM

Chief Pote 03-08-2014 09:59 AM

The sandwich buns look real good...WHY can't you buy good sandwich buns in the store? WHY?

Has anyone else noticed that the sandwich buns are small in the stores? No creativity and did I mention small? Who in the **** wants to make a small sandwich? Maybe sesame seed buns...nothing else. Anyone own a grocery store? I mean we have doctors, lawyers, dentists, NFL general managers, coaches on CP......anybody own a grocery store?

GloryDayz 03-08-2014 12:46 PM

I'd certainly try them all. I'd spread the buns open and lick between.

NewChief 03-08-2014 12:50 PM

I'd try all of them.

Bailey's Range in St. Louis does some similar burgers, but not quite that far out there. They're fantastic.

Dayze 03-08-2014 02:40 PM

I'd kill every one of them

Dayze 03-08-2014 02:50 PM

Two of the best burgers I've ever had were these types of odd ones.

One was at Swagger (now closed, naturally damnit). A burger patty cooked, then dipped in tempura batter and lightly fried. The topped with cheese and a wasabi cabbage /lettuce blend. Holy shit

The other was at Blanc. I forget the name of it, and exactly what was in it but it had a fried over easy egg on top.

In related news, I ripped the heart out of a small kitten and put it raw on my grilled cheese for lunch. I regret not having the pictures but I can assure you that it was quite tasty.

My family and I have reached a similar conclusion. A 99cent bag o buns with a list of ingredients a mile long. No more.

Last week my 8 year old daughter and I started making our own.
So easy. So good.

Made another 32 today. Obviously, no low carb diets here.

FYI photographers who jack up the contrast and color saturation in food photos should be shot.

Dayze 03-08-2014 07:54 PM

He cheeseburger link was awesome. I'm totally going to make my way down the list when it s warm enough to grill. Lots of great sounding burgers

Fish 03-08-2014 08:17 PM

Seems to be some really odd flavor combinations put together just for the oddness of it...

They're real, and they're spectacular.

It's based off a Peter Reinhart recipe, I believe. Here's a blog with the details. Easy peasy.

Baby Lee 03-08-2014 11:50 PM

Some of those aren't even burger-esque, they're a meal stacked on bread.

But then, I wasn't much a 'food touching' kid. Cottage cheese and pork and beans even being in the same vicinity of your plate still makes me throw up in my mouth a little.

I love BBQ and love a good salad, but Famous Dave's plunks the meat in a divot in the middle of your salad and it pisses me off to no end.
