SceneItAll Tournament: Round 1, Heat 81

The rules:

In Round 1, I'm going to put up three randomly selected scenes from the nomination thread.

You'll vote for your ONE favorite scene among the three. The key here is FAVORITE. We're not talking about the 'best' or 'most powerful' or 'most meaningful'. We're talking about the scene that you most enjoy watching, however you define that.

The winners will move on. I'll also take the 10 highest-scoring second-place scenes and they'll advance as wild cards.

Some of our nominations did not include clips. This will be noted. If you find a clip, please post it and let me know so I can update it if it moves on.

Vote against Braveheart here and I will stab you in the throat with a deerhorn... DO IT I DARE YE!

Rain Man 03-09-2014 10:39 PM

An interesting heat here, and I'm surprising myself with my votes.

#1 - Tenacious D. I hope people are watching the scenes and not just voting based on the movie, because this scene is great. That kid is uncannily similar to Jack Black, and the music and lyrics are awesome. Honestly, the worst part of the scene is Jack Black himself.

#2 - Braveheart. Good speech. I like a leader who can deliver a good speech.

#3 - Pulp Fiction. This is one of my two favorite movies, but I think this is about the 98th-best scene in the movie. It's necessary to the plot, but it's slow.

It's a good scene. I'll grant you that. But the Tenacious D scene pretty much defines rock and roll, and on the world stage rock and roll is much bigger than Scotland.

Rasputin 03-09-2014 10:45 PM

the D Tenacious D.

Even if you don't like Jack Black he was good in Tenacious D.

Jack Blacks brand of irreverent comedy vs Mel Gibson de-throating someone with a small, sharpened set of deer antlers?

I GOT MY EYE ON YOU, COMMIE...

I'm in the Tenacious D camp on this one. We need to garner support.

If I voted against Pulp Fiction, it's got to be something really important. For crying out loud, I voted against Pulp Fiction!

Tenacious D all day in this one. That is a great song, plus Meat Loaf and Ronnie James Dio add a lot to that song.

You finally nailed one. Pulp Fiction way better movie and The TD movie sucked--but that scene was WAY better. It had Meat Loaf and Dio for gosh sakes!

Rain Man 03-09-2014 11:06 PM

Holy mother of god. That's Meat Loaf!

I now want to vote twice for that scene.

I'm pretty surprised you said Pulp Fiction is a favorite movie. There's some yelling and violence in there. Brain matter. Male rape. Things I would assume do not meet your standard of "making you happy."

It has no gore, and if you really step back and look at it, it's not even cruel or mean violence. It's just a bunch of people doing what they have to do. In that sense, it falls under my war movie exception clause for violence. But I don't recall any blood at all, other than maybe a little when Butch hits the guy with the samurai sword. Oh, and Uma has a nose bleed when she overdoses. And I guess Marvin filled the car with blood, but that was a slapstick murder.

That movie isn't about violence at all. It's not about gangsters at all. It's a clever black comedy about people figuring out who they are and dealing with the repercussions of that in the greater world. And I love black comedy.

I'd question your recollection of no blood or violence. But hey, I'm proud of you. Frankly, I found the scene where they are tied up in the chair with the ball gags and they bring in the gimp to be the most disturbing.

Well, yeah, but that's just Marvin. That was funny. He accidentally shot him in the face.

The ball gag scene is a bit disturbing, but it was tolerable and the rest of the movie is awesome.

Rain Main - lover of swords, cocaine and the N word. :D

Garcia Bronco 03-10-2014 09:03 AM

It amuses me that people think Jack Black movies are anything but suck. Mildly amusing comedies is the best thing I could say about them.

Oh, they are bad. Terrible, even. I have no idea how they get funded, and how some producer looks at them and says, "Yeah, I'm going to invest in that". But this is a contest about movie scenes, and that particular scene is really good.

His name should be changed to Sam Kinision the Lesser. :hmmm:

It's so refreshing to see Pulp Fiction lose something for once.

Too bad it's to Braveheart. That movie sucks.

Steron 03-10-2014 12:57 PM

Braveheart

MTG#10 03-10-2014 02:45 PM

Love Jack Black. Like his music better than his movies, but The POD was great.

Pablo 03-10-2014 02:48 PM

I would have never pegged Rain Man for a Pulp Fiction fan.

Color me surprised. Yet another reason why he's the best CP has to offer.

Rain Man 03-11-2014 08:47 PM

Braveheart claims victory. VICTORY!
