DGB suspended from Mizzou football team indefinitely

News-Leader
4:21 p.m. CDT April 7, 2014

University of Missouri Head Football Coach Gary Pinkel has indefinitely suspended wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham from the program for a violation of team policies, according to a news release. The decision, made in consultation with Director of Athletics Mike Alden, is immediate, and includes practices and team activities. Access to the academic resource center will be permitted during this period of time.

"It's unfortunate, but it's the right thing to do for our football program, for the athletic department, and also for Dorial," Pinkel said in the release. "We have high standards related to the expectations that come along with being a Missouri Tiger, and Dorial has not met those recently. Representing Mizzou and our fans is a privilege, and we'll work with him during this process. It's been disappointing to have this, and other issues which have taken place lately. It's frustrating, because we work very hard to instill responsibility and discipline in our young men so that our program represents Mizzou the right way. These actions aren't representative of those expectations, and we are addressing these issues head on."

Where'd this come from? I thought it was because he was pulled over in Springfield a while back with a pound of weed in the vehicle.

duncan_idaho 04-07-2014 04:40 PM

Rumor is that he hit a woman in front of several people. Nothing confirmed, though.

Two reactions:

1) This can't be tolerated, and I expect he will be gone if he is charged in this case.
2) What an astronomically stupid thing for him to do. All he has to do is make it one 12 month period without getting in trouble, and he's a millionaire. Pretty much guaranteed. Now, if he isn't incarcerated, he's going to have to rely on doing things the hard way (lower round pick, fighting for a roster spot, carrying the baggage)

A little bit of weed is not a big deal. This... if it is what the rumors are... is a very big deal.

No charges were filed against him in that case because the police were convinced:

A) He didn't know there was that much weed in the car or have anything to do with it
B) It was his friend's vehicle, and that guy said it was his (this was a friend from HS he was hanging out with over Christmas Break)

Yes, but the path will be harder. Big difference between getting drafted high and having to take the Isaiah Crowell route. And... if he isn't incarcerated this year... he'll end up at a terrible JUCO somewhere in Kansas or Mississippi.

Hey there, dumba...I mean, Coach Allen. You're in a bit of a pickle right now. Your record at Missouri State is 33-56, you just lost your entire defensive line and your contract runs out in December. Bleak, huh? Well, let me introduce you to this individual...

http://media.scout.com/Media/Image/94/947810.jpg

Here's a young man that could save your career. His name is Dorial. He's a wide receiver, about 6-6 and 225 with a 4.4 40. He went to Hillcrest, and his parents still live right here in Springfield.

You see that fork in the road, right? You're facing one way, the way that got you four wins per season. The way that led to your 0-8 record against your alma mater Northern Iowa. The way that has not yielded a non-conference win since September 3, 2010. The way that led you to boot the reigning Missouri Valley Offensive POY a couple of years ago for reasons that were never publicly divulged.

But that way didn't get you a contract extension, did it? You said it yourself, you want to stay here. You need something special. You need a good redemption story, but you'll have to walk on a fog-covered road to get there. The question is, how badly do you want it?

Rumor from Tigerboard...hopefully this is all it was:

What I have heard...

DGB had a disagreement with a female (Im assuming his GF, but don't know for sure). Entered her house/apt after being asked not to. Physical altercation with her trying to push him out of the door. From my info, he did NOT hit her. Lots of screaming/yelling, pushing (on both sides) but no punches or slaps. Teammates pulled him out of the apartment and they left the scene. Someone called the cops, not the female in question. She is not pressing charges, police are investigating despite of this. No charges are expected, but who knows. Should know for sure by the end of the week.

GP is ****ed! DGB can't seem to keep himself out of situations were trouble presents itself.

It appears he will survive this (maybe a suspension for a game), but he is on dangerously thin ice.

You might if you've created a string of problems for your head coach and he's not sure how deep this latest incident goes. The rumor goes beyond yelling anyway.

I haven't paid attention to past issues, so I'm not commenting on those. They'd have to be fairly serious I think for this allegation to have the kind of weight to immediately suspend him from the team.

I was just about to suggest he could play for Missouri State. Hell, if I'm interpreting this alumni email correctly, they're asking if I'd like to start at tight end. And my football experience is Tecmo Bowl/Madden and interfraternity flag football.

Even though I graduated from (S)MSU, I adopted Mizzou as my school. I like what Mizzou is doing. Seems like in Springfield the exciting games to watch were the Lady Bears. It always appeared like they never gave a rip about football.

MSU just runs too deep in my family. I can't think of anyone in my family that has lived farther north than Springfield. Mizzou is just too different; I applied to MSU and Arkansas, and I would have gone to Fayetteville if they didn't cut most of their aid to out of state students before I got there.

Well one was for smoking weed in the parking lot and he got arrested a 2nd time for riding in a vehicle that had over a pound of weed in it.

I think some other guy took the fall for the 2nd event and charges were dropped, but it seems he can't avoid the law.

He was arrested along with 5 other teammates on athletic department grounds due to marijuana possession during the fall/winter of 2012. He ended up pleading to a misdemeanor.

He also was arrested over Christmas break, again for marijuana possession. Charges were never filed in that case because the large amount of pot discovered in the car belonged to the driver and he was deemed to have no knowledge of it.

He's on thin ice as it is.
