This is clearly channeling some Alpha Centauri, which I played the hell out of back in the day.

Other than Civ I, Alpha Centauri was one of my favorites...Loved it! Can't wait for this!

Should be a good game.

This new crew fixed the shit out of Civ5 with BNW.

They put Civilization: Revolution up on Xbox for free a couple months ago and I played the shit out of that game for a few weeks. It was a huge problem..

Civ V -- 1500 hours played.

I'll be buying this.

I was always sorely disappointed at the end of each Civilization game when you achieved a Space victory and then never got to see the fruits of your labor.

???

You see a rocket launch off into space. That's no different than whats happened so far in real life.

Civ 5 is easily my most played game on Steam. Easily. Will buy.

edit: although OOTP baseball is definitely getting close...

Canofbier 04-14-2014 07:46 AM

Very, very excited about this. Like many of you all, I have a LOT of time logged on Civ V, so this will probably be a Day 1 purchase for me!

AndChiefs 04-14-2014 07:51 AM

I can't wait!

I could never get into the whole "play the entirety of history" thing.

I much prefer a more limited scope.

You dont have to play through the entire history. You can set the game to which era you want to start in.

Can you also set which era you want to end in?

With mods.

So those on here would recommend Civ 5?

I've played the hell out of Civ IV but wouldn't mind trying out the new version, finally.

I heard negative things early about some of the things removed from the previous game.

The game was shit when it came out. Then the lead developer was fired I believe and a new guy came in and fixed it to the point where I would say its probably the best Civ I've played.

I heard the same bad reviews you did and I didn't buy it til I got the entire Civ5 set for like $15 on steam sale.

So I'd need to get at least the first expansion pack, then, from the way it sounds.

Of course. They are expansions. You can't expand with BNW without first expanding with G&K.

The problem is that the game wasn't really fixed and balanced until the last expansion. Go figure.

Brave New World is amazing. It's worth it just itself.

Me too...right now I am replaying every leader on BTS Civ 4. I have spent a bazillion hours on the thing.

I tried Civ 5 when it first came out and HATED it. Maybe I should rethink my position.
