Saw something on a site I am a member of from 2 people who are always at that short track. One said it looked like Stewart didn't try to avoid him and just ran him down. The other whose father was there and always records the races hasn't been able to get a hold of him. Seems like something really bad happened.

Also the young man that was hit is VERY popular as is his family at this track and in the area, especially among short track racing fans.

FOX Sports 1 spoke with the head nursing supervisor at Thompson Health in Canandaigua, who could not confirm the identity, but did confirm that they have someone at the hospital who was said to be a racecar driver with injuries sustained at Canandaigua Motorsports Park.
The supervising nurse, Barbara Manning, confirmed that the individual sustained serious injuries and that the condition was not determined at this time. Also, out of respect for the family, she could not confirm that it was Ward.

Even though the guy doesn't go flying 50 yards (he doesn't go flying anywhere - he gets hung up under the wheel), it looks really, really bad.

This guy does have a lot of tweets on it, but as always take tweets with a grain of salt. He seems to be trying to break news by throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks.

I don't watch much racing, and none of that short track stuff. What do you think of intent from watching the video?

That looks terrible. That guy was an idiot for running out into traffic, but it sure sounds like Stewart gunned the throttle when he hit him.

He clearly revs his engine but I'm no expert to know if that's the reason his car slid into Ward. The earlier reports made it sound like Steward gunned it to slide sideways on purpose. He certainly hits the gas, but it will take an investigation to figure out what happened (or a better video of the incident).

He could say he didn't see the guy until the last minute and accelerated to try and avoid hitting him. Easy defense, hard to prove intent in my opinion :shrug:

I'm no driver myself, but I was listening to 610 and there were quite a few callers making the point that on dirt tracks like that you have to lay on the gas to AVOID things, and the breaks actually make you go straight.

Again, I'm no driver and I've never driven on dirt like that, but many people were making the point and nobody was arguing it.

When I saw his car had parked at the end of the video it made it seem like he stopped as soon as he hit him so I'd imagine he revved it to try to scare the kid to teach him a lesson.

No matter how you look at it, it looks bad.

The more you watch that the worse it looks. Stewart had room low to avoid the guy, it wasn't like he was trapped. And he clearly hit the accelerator when he ran him over too. I'm not sure you could prove in a court of law he hit him intentionally but it looks bad.

I grew up in dirt track racing. I drove modifieds for 10 years. You don't do something like that by accident, especially when you're arguably the best all-around driver on the planet. The guy could drive a pinto to victory lane. He will lose any argument based on his past anger issues and the fact that he's a professional driver who obviously steered and accelerated into a fellow driver who was outside the constraints of his car. You can see just fine, even better than a street car, out of those vehicles. The only obstructions are a roll cage and the roof. Tony got pissed because some punk ass kid was calling out a racing legend and he thought hed teach him a lesson. It appears that lesson went tragically wrong. Sad for all parties involved.

It looks like it slid sideways because a human body was being mutilated under a rear wheel. :(

If I were a driver I'd have throwing stars or a shotgun. I wouldn't personally attack another vehicle.

I think he was parked on the far turn because he knew exactly what happened and what's coming next...
