Marcus Cooper, De’Anthony Thomas injured at Chiefs practice

The Chiefs could be without two key players in Sunday’s season opener against the Tennessee Titans.

Starting cornerback Marcus Cooper suffered an ankle injury and rookie running back/punt returner De’Anthony Thomas strained a hamstring late in Wednesday’s practice, coach Andy Reid said on Thursday morning.

Neither player was expected to practice on Thursday.

I have a feeling Thomas may have been/hopefully still is a bigger part of the offensive plan than just returning punts, with Bowe out. Hopefully it's something he can get past quickly.

Can't really afford to lose Cooper. Ankles scare me. Hopefully it's not a high ankle.

Reid said it was slight in Thomas' case and he expected both to be fine to play.

WE need a picture to break down, anyone on have any of Cooper or Thomas standing around so we can break down the ankle and flexibility of the player...

I don't think Cooper or DAT will make or break us against the Titans. It's not like we don't have all kinds of other issues and injuries. I still think we should win. We still aren't missing any of our best players.

yeah but you also think a signing bonus gets paid out over 5 years and if we cut the guy he loses his guaranteed money...

basically no one cares what you think or don't think.

Lonewolf Ed 09-04-2014 01:54 PM

Ugh and groan!! I hope these injuries are not the kind that keeps either one out of games as the season goes on.

There is nothing good about a hamstring strain on a speedster, regardless how slight. He'll be fighting that all year. Just hope it doesnt actually tear.

Totally. After being on this board for a decade I am definitely qualified to diagnose their injuries from a picture. Thank you doctor.

I am serious though, this place can break down a QB throwing a football from a picture, they sure they hell can diagnose Thomas hammy or Coopers ankle....

NEVER under estimate the speculation experts on CP...

Looks like a big weekend for Reggie Hammond. He doesn't like white people. He hates Rednecks. The Titans are Rednecks.

Sandy Vagina 09-04-2014 02:43 PM

Got damn.. sure won't help our chances to lose either. Glad to read DAT's is slight, but them hammys can be a lingering mess. Desperately need the pass rush to mask the secondary.. probably needed that with or w/o Cooper.

I should be feeling far more intrepidity over KC at home versus Tennessee... :(

Because Hunter's potential is ridiculous and he started coming around at the end of last season and has progressed very well since. Wright is a stud though too. They'll both get plenty of chances to show what they can do

Direckshun 09-04-2014 03:18 PM

Yup, trio will be Smith, Parker, and Owens. Gaines will probably be 4th off the bench. STFU

We have no other corners behind those 4.

Sunday is a long ways away. I'll wager they both play.

You really need to postpone the starts of your period a couple of weeks.
The Chiefs are going to beat the Titans like they owe them money.

OldSchool 09-04-2014 03:23 PM

Holy crap, didn't realize how much of a crapfest our secondary really is.

Cooper
Smith
Parker
Owens
Gaines

At safety:

SS: Eric Berry
FS: Abdullah

Backups: Sorensen, McCray, and Coleman

I think that Manning will put up at least 40 in each contest.

Don't look at the stats, should look at his play. He's the reason why the Titans were perfectly willing to let Kenny Britt go. Hunter, when it's all said and done, could end up having a better career than his Tennessee counterpart in Corderall Patterson.
