Where do you rank Back to the Future?
Hadn't watched it since the 90's, and it was on TV tonight. I can't remember the last time I've enjoyed watching a movie so much, let alone one that I had already seen.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...arty_McFly.jpg For me, I'm going Goodfellas, Borat, Back to the Future, The Warriors, and National Lampoon's Vacation, in no particular order. No way could I rank them. |
It's definitely a top 10 film for me.
|
It's cool
Goonies is the flick though |
Howard the duck
/thread I do like BTF tho, top 10 like guru said |
BTtF holds up VERY well. It's just good storytelling with great pacing and acting. I love it. Top 5 franchises of all time for me.
|
One of my favorites. My son loves it, too.
|
I just bought the DVD like 3 days ago. I like it.
|
Borat a top 5 film? Opinions like that will damage your chances at noob of the year.
|
Where do we rank Back to the Future II and III ?

its in my top 3. always squirm around with doc and the clock tower. can't stop watching the sequels. III was probably my first "western".
probably why I enjoyed the adventures of Briscoe county jr. (google that shit, young'uns) |

I thought Backside to the Future was better.
|
Best movie.
Everything has a meaning. Some of it is suttle, but it is there. 2 tried to hard and was too busy. 3 was funny I have all 3 on DVD |

There are some plot holes, but if you suspend belief for awhile it is a good popcorn flick
|
Nothing better.

Behind terminator 1&2, evil dead 1&2, Conan, red Sonja, phantasm, one crazy summer, hellraiser, many others I can't remember, then back to the future.
Was never a fan of Fox. |

Also, Bowling for Columbine has to be up there as well due to its significance. Not sparking a political debate, JMO. |
It's a good time killer movie, but not nearly a top 10.

Borat love to Bufkin.
Good movie. |
I mean I like it - it's nothing like rewatching Star Wars or anything like that - I DO think BTF is somewhat over-rated - no offense to any of you - I'm glad you like it and you seem friendly enough, as people, overall - sooo .... no biggie. Thanks!

I is also in my top 5. Rare for a movie made in 1985 with lots of special effects to stand the test of time. |

Rank it what? Of comedies or all time movies? If its all time movies I don't think it cracks my top 50. As a comedy maybe just maybe in around 20. Bet the people who put this in their top 10 also liked Teen Wolf.
|
Robocop is prob my fave ever. BTTF is a good one.

Eastwood ravine
"What's you name boy!" "Clint Eastwood" Yep that one was funny. Didn't like two first one still the best . I agree although you know it will all work out when doc can't get it connected and the car won't start it does make you squirm in your seat . |
Creepiest moment in movie history when the kid points to his Wang in part 3.
|
Not at the top due to the incredibly horrible NES game. Wow what a piece of Shit.
|
Never been a big fan. Not sure why.
|
It's not in that class of movies where you're flipping through the channels and say to yourself, "WHOA, STOP EVERYTHING, BACK TO THE FUTURE IS ON".
|
I think I tend to underrate Back to the Future. When I watch it, I love it. It's certainly in my top ten movies of all time, maybe even top five. It's a fun flick.
Oddly, I remember almost nothing about Versions 2 and 3. I saw them both, but only once. I don't think I've ever seen them a second time. |
Iconic 80s film, in that it nails it's portrayal of that decade.
Iconic science fiction film. Special effects, even in part II, still hold up today. Incredibly memorable characters and performances. Cool ****ing car, that actually manages to be cooler than the actual car. Funny in a rare way, in that the humor doesn't overcome the plot of the film. It's right behind the Star Wars, Star Trek, Indiana Jones, Terminator and Alien films for me. It also gives me the warm fuzzies when I watch it. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-fc/cloud9.gif |
I like it but I don't think it would crack my top ten all time favorite movies.

They should do a modern remake and send Marty back to 1985
|
Just off the top of my head here are a few movies that I would rank higher:
Sparticus, Ben Hur, The (Original) Manchurian Candidate, Casablanca, It's A Wonderful Life, Platoon, Apocalypse Now, Several Clint Eastwood Movies, In Harm's Way, Star Wars (original three). That's just off the top of my head. |

And Back to the Future, while a very good movie, shouldn't be on anyone's "Top 100" list if they have a discerning bone in their body.

Sacco going full idiot.

My all time favorite trilogy.
All time fav movie is Donnie Brasco though |

I am a fan of Fox, though. I thought Spin City was great.
In fact, the last time I watched regular TV on a weekly basis, Fox, Drew Carey, and Kelsey Grammer ruled the airwaves. |

I'm being quite serious. Of all the movies ever made, do any of you seriously think that "Back to the Future" deserves a Top 100 ranking? If so, you are a ****ing moron. Like I said, a good, entertaining movie. It is not Top 100. Not even close. Here's one such list (which I think is total shit due to the inclusion of "Gladiator" - which is the worst movie to have ever received a "Best Picture" Oscar, and "Green Mile," which is another stellar performance in mediocrity by Tom Hanks where he plays the exact same guy that's in 99% off all movies ever done by the actor): http://www.imdb.com/list/ls055592025/ Another: http://www.afi.com/100Years/movies.aspx Just random examples, but go check those movies. For the vast majority, every single one is substantially more engaging than "Back to the Future." But I get it. Most people don't have the ability to discern the intricacies of life which have basically contributed to a general acceptance of mediocrity from a global societal perspective. You're a bunch of uncouth tards. I'm sure that there are some who even think stuff like Borat are good movies. There is a reason why Will Ferrell continues to get acting gigs. |

How many of those movies are considered iconic? How many of them featured groundbreaking special effects that stayed relevant even 30 years later? How many featured a groundbreaking musical score? How many were original screenplays vs. adapted from a book? How many of those movies hang off a truly original idea vs. a good movie with exceptional acting? You don't have to love it. But the production was unbelievably ambitious for its time. The idea was unbelievably unique and creative. And unlike many movies, it is iconic. Of course if we're talking literally the greatest movies of all time, yeah, of course, it's not going to live up to movies like Gone with the Wind, but I'm not putting Gone with the Wind anywhere near my personal top 5. |

I have a hard time coming up with "top" lists because it's all subjective... but BTTF is a very clever, well executed film. It's definitely a classic. Just because it's not dead serious and takes a Capra-esque approach doesn't mean it should be lumped in with Land of the Lost or Borat. That's ridiculous. |

Bad Hanks<<<<<- A League Of Their Own->>>>>Good Hanks |
If you still doubt how great it is, name a better film about time travel...that is almost purely ABOUT time travel.
The adaptation of HG Wells Time Machine is goofy and dated. Star Trek IV isn't really about time travel (although wonderfully executed). Terminator films...again not really about time travel. |

As embarrassed as I am to say it, I've never seen the 2nd and 3rd movies. As much as I love BTTF, I'll make it a priority to watch them this week.
