Fridge problems...help.

I have a GE profile fridge that the freezer side intermittently works/doesn't work and the crisper in the fridge side freezes the veggies now. The two problems started a few days ago at the same time. Luckily we have a chest freezer.

Besides shooting it and replacing it, any ideas of how to fix it?

Call Frazod.

Bugeater 02-14-2015 11:38 PM

Bad temperature control. On our budget refrigerators it's just a thermistor connected to the temperature dial, not sure what it is on the fancier ones. Maybe a bad control board.

Model # would be helpful.

Needs the antifreeze changed most likely

Simply Red 02-15-2015 12:22 AM

Grandmother used to call them ice-boxes. I swear to god.

TribalElder 02-15-2015 01:02 AM

I got a refreshing cool drink out of the ice box and set it on a coaster on top of the chest of drawers

So did I when I was a kid in the 60s.

Your grandmother probably did have an ice box.

had a GE also. the ice maker went on the fritz. several pieces broke down on several occasions. finally the compressor (?) stopped cooling.

piece of shit thing only lasted 7 years. find yourself a handyman. baconeater? my guess, get the checkbook ready.

we are such a throwaway society. my garage fridge, which is my mother in laws, its going strong after 20 years. the new one (the trashed one), 7 years. smh

The new GE fridges are complete POS that can't last worth a damn. From frozen walls in the freezer that hit the compressor fan making a loud racket, to ice makers that don't shut off when full, to bad temperature control, THEY SUCK!

My GE Fridge with freezer UNDERNEATH in a slide out drawer had the compressor completely blocked on Christmas Day and EVERYTHING in the freezer went to 40 degrees and all the ice melted. When the freezer drawer was open it was like a tsunami of water-I was freaking pissed and it ruined Christmas

check if you're getting voltage to cold control, if not its the ADC board. If you are then look further down the line at the fans and the compressor (compressor start relay first).

Mr. Flopnuts 02-15-2015 11:52 AM

Shoot it.

I was at a farmers market down here in Louisiana a couple of years ago. I bought some produce from a farmer that had to be in his 80's. As a gesture, he offered me up some free blood oranges. As I was walking away, he said, "Make sure you put them in the ice box for a few hours. That's the best way to eat them."

I was confused as hell. I couldn't understand why the dude wanted me to put my oranges in the freezer. What would be pleasurable about eating a frozen orange.

I found out later from my grandma that ice box is what the old folks call a fridge.

I have a Kenmore and had to get it serviced not long ago. The fan went out. I have an old fridge in the basement that's a beer fridge. It's a "Norge." Have to defrost it, but it runs like a mother and it's 50 years old!

The best tool to fix a fridge? A .357 snub nose revolver.

I apologize for saying Alex Smith is better than Peyton, it was when you called me an effing moron, & it hurt! It HURT! so I'm glad that you wrote me today. Thank you. ...It means a lot - you really hurt my feelings three weeks ago - it was a blow I felt and it was because you'd administered the shot. I'm glad we're close again!

I'll post the model number when I get home.

I have a Whirpool and I've had to replace the start relay.

I've learned that getting dirty every six months, and investing in a flexible vacuum hose extension, is cheap compared to calling a repairman. And the one I did call ($350!) in 2005 taught me about these start relays, and now I always have a spare ($20)!!!

My grandma called it an ice box, and my dad still calls it an ice box. When I'm around him I call it an ice box because I think it is funny.

He also calls the washing machine "the warsher."

I saw an old SNL episode yesterday where Dan Aykroyd as the plumber (with huge plumber crack) came over to fix "the Norge." They made sure to reference the "the Norge" several times.

ShortRoundChief 02-16-2015 06:56 AM

You're in Iowa? Is it snowing there?

If so I would suggest just moving it outside. Save you a ton of money on electric bills (offsetting the cost of a new fridge when the weather warms).

Hell, you could even shoot it without fear of anything going wrong if you followed my advice. BEST OF TEH BOTH WORLDZ!

And the woman in the pic is very-much a "would"!
