Beloved: Your Favorite Chiefs. Round 1, Heat 12. Defensive Line, Part 2

Okay, back for the second heat on the defensive line. Vote for your FAVORITES, for whatever reason you may have. Ability, longevity, personality, moxie, hair style, girlfriend attractiveness, whatever. What players do you like and were glad to root for?

We need a Spaniard representative in this competition. For that reason, I'm voting for Dan Saleaumua.

Lots of personalities here. My picks:

#1 - Dan Saleaumua, of course. Is he not #1 on anybody's list? Good player, fun to watch, and seemed to be likeable.

#2 - Chester McGlockton. Maybe a bit of a curve ball here, but he was a Raiders pro bowler and then asked to join the Chiefs in the middle of a game. How much better does it get than that? And yeah, he jumped offsides a lot, but overall he was pretty solid.

#3 - Jimmy Wilkerson. Another curve ball. I liked Jimmy as a player and always wanted him to get more time. It seemed like he was very productive, but he could never get on the field for us.

Honorable mentions:

Leonard Griffin. An underrated player for us for several years. Not a world beater, but I liked him.

Curley Culp. I should pick Curley and he's a Hall of Famer, but he's just a little before my peak fanship time. I remember him as a Chief, but just barely.

Tank Tyler. Yeah, he was a bust. I feel responsible for that because I kept telling the Chiefs to draft him. I like to think that they took my advice and it was a bummer that he didn't work out. I thought he was pretty funny on Hard Knocks.

Ron Edwards. Solid dude, and underrated.

As a minor story about Aaron Brown, my father took me to a car dealership when I was seven or eight to meet then-quarterback Mike Livingston. It was a surprise, and I was so shocked and intimidated that I wouldn't say a word. So my dad was talking to Mike and I remember them having a conversation about the Aaron Brown trade. That's my main memory of Aaron Brown.

I thought he was Romanian.

Hicks seemed like a really nice guy off the field, but I can't release the image from my head of him getting caught by bootlegs time after time after time. The people voting for him must have more charitable memories of that.

Chester McGlockton is a Raider whether he like's it or not.

A dead Raider.

Is the best Raider!

JK, Chester was fun to watch. Definitely one of the good guys.

First Steve Sabol, and now this? My sense of mortality is spiking.

Deberg_1990 02-25-2015 04:52 PM

Eric Hicks was solid for that 1 season!

I remember when I was 13 or 14, reading about Aaron Brown knocking Daryle Lamonica and then Joe Kapp out of the games in the SB run, and he seemed frightening. It's not real love unless you're a little afraid of 'em.

So, Aaron Brown. And Culp and Saleaumua.

EPodolak 02-25-2015 06:04 PM

#99, Wilbur Young. Biggest guy in the league for a couple of years there if I recall.

According to NFL.com, he was only 6'6 285.

That may have been the biggest at his time. I think there was a short spell of five-man fronts in the 50s that had some bigger guys, but a 280-lber was rare in the 60s and much of the 70s, until steroids came around.

oldman 02-25-2015 08:06 PM

Saleaumua, Culp, and Brown.

cdcox 02-25-2015 08:10 PM

When Aaron Brown knocked Joe Kapp from SB IV, that was the moment it was clear that there would be no miraculous come back.

wazu 02-25-2015 09:59 PM

Saleamua, Hicks, Tank Tyler

Rain Man 02-27-2015 02:05 PM

Poll is closed now. Saleaumua, Culp, and Hicks move on.

I'm really surprised at the Hicks win. I thought he was pretty villainized around these parts.
