Stupid title. Can't wait

Baby Lee 03-29-2015 07:37 AM

I'll give it a shot based on the writing talent behind it, but I'm not hanging on if it sucks just to hope to learn something about the flagship show in the midst of an inferior show [if that's how it turns out].

In The Walking Dead universe the George Romero movies (Night of the Living Dead, Day of the Dead, etc.) and the the copy cat movies were never made. Therefore the concept of the dead coming back to life and eating the living was not part of the human lexicon.

Therefore the dead in TWD are not referred to as zombies.

Was there also no voodoo or creole culture? No zumbi, nzambi or sombra imported from West Africa to SE US and Haitian Isles?

Yes, but that use of the term zombie differs significantly from the way it is / would be used in TWD.

Raising the dead to control them vs. the dead rising and eating the living.

I thought voodoo zombies were people enthralled while living and they die once they have served their purpose. they just appear lifeless because they are empty headed automatons. is that wrong?

Jumbie also used in Jamaica and the Caribbean.

I'd like to see how a group of rednecks handles a zombie apocallypse. Or better yet all the politicians in DC. Now that would be awesome!!

They use the word zombie in the very first comic. Nice try though.

True, but I was taking the creator's word for it.

According to Robert Kirkman in Episode 2 of Talking Dead, in the world of The Walking Dead, the works of George A. Romero were never made, and thus zombies do not appear in fiction.

So Kirkman is contradicting himself. Or just smoked too much weed and forgot what was written in the first comic book of the story. ;)

Rumor is late August. I think it's only 6 or 8 episodes, and Kirkman has said it would lead right up to the next season of TWD. So if you do the math, late August is likely.

“Everything that happens in Fear The Walking Dead is in the same universe as The Walking Dead,” says Kirkman. “So any rule that we find out and anything they see in the early days is definitely something that was happening in the past of the other show. These two shows are very intertwined in the same world, even if their characters aren’t necessarily going to interact because of geographical distances. So yeah, anything that you learn from Fear the Walking Dead will apply to the mythology of The Walking Dead and vice versa. So you are going to get to see that the characters learn that they’re all infected in a much different way. But all the rules do apply and are the same. That will be some of the fun if you’re watching both shows.”

Do you think newtons' third law will be applicable? I mean Christ, the shows been on the air for a while and I know their budget has to allow for guns that actually produce recoil for once?

I just watched the movie "Sunshine" last night (which is excellent, BTW), and it had the main character for FTWD in it.

Excited.

I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time. Just seems like they put 'Walking Dead' in the title for nothing more than easy recognition. I enjoy apocalypse and zombie themes to watch how survivors deal with the world crumbling around them, society collapsing and trying to survive through it all. This is some weird hybrid of daytime soap opera and 24 (Kiefer Sutherland) that is mixing like red wine and ice cream.

Let me know what you think. Maybe it's just starting slow.

notorious 08-23-2015 09:56 PM

My one complaint with the Walking Dead when it first came out was that we didn't get to see society fall apart and spread of the zombies.

FTWD is going to show us. The first episode was 95% character building. I will give it a chance.

NewChief 08-23-2015 10:00 PM

Just a slow start. And the junkie character is really really unlikeable.

Buehler445 08-23-2015 10:51 PM

It's hard to tell off one episode. They didn't show much of what the show will be.

None of the characters are absurdly compelling yet, but they may be soon.

It certainly wasn't bad enough to quit watching.

jimidollar 08-24-2015 12:25 AM

Yeah, I liked it but I still want to know why when someone dies they turn into a Zombie... Where did the Virus come from? Is it in the food, airborne, military weapon gone bad?

Mr. Pink 08-24-2015 06:48 AM

I liked it. It was pretty much what I thought it would be. Not as good as Walking Dead but it was good and has potential.

KC_Lee 08-24-2015 07:00 AM

Slow start, clunky foreshadowing ("nature always wins", chaos theory being taught), not a lot of personality in the main characters yet. Willing to give it a shot and see where this goes.

What's the over / under on the heroin addict son that seems to be a cross between two Johnny Depp characters, Edward Scissorhands & Capt. Jack Sparrow?

Lets hope they don't go this way but........He will cause a death of some major character or something cause he was too high or not reacting well to going cold turkey. This will cause him to re-think his drug using ways and then will turn his life around as all life gets turned upside down.

Or he is the type that keeps getting everyone in life or death situations but no one has the balls to just pull a Shane, pop him in the knee, and let the walkers take him.

They're also trying to be too cute with making the heroin addict a "living" zombie. It was really bad the way they had him shamble around after escaping the hospital. A little heavy handed.
