My Father passed away
 

He died of congestive heart failure today. He had open heart a few months ago, but never could get healthy enough to go home. He was scheduled to be moved to a nursing home near our home today for long term recovery.

My mother was holding his hand while they were doing a routine sonogram of his heart. She said he seemed to just go to sleep, then his heart stopped. At least he didn't go alone. I'm not a religious guy, but he deserves a special place if there is one.

Legally he was my step-father, but in my heart he has always been my dad.

I hear ya. My mom's is April 9th and it's been 7 years. I try not to think of it but I always do.

I was raised by my Aunt and Uncle from the time I was 7 due to unfortunate circumstances outside of my mom's control, but was always very close to her. I lost her suddenly and unexpectedly at 21 and will never ever forget the day that the light inside my soul faded to black when I learned that she was gone. That sounds horrible but you only get 1 true mother and I think anyone who has lost theirs can relate entirely to that last statement. God bless, bud.

I am very sorry for your loss. It is good that your mother was with him at the end, though that had to be extra hard for her. I pray you and your family find consolation and comfort in each other and your friends.

Someone once said the most significant event in a man's life is the loss of his father, it may be true. Happened in our family not long ago also. Thanks for sharing about your Dad and best wishes to you and your family.

That's got to go both ways. I have separate, distinct, relationships with my parents. Both are equally significant, IMO.

I'm being drawn closer and closer to them as they are starting to decline.

FWIW, he sounded like a hell of a man. Any guy who takes another's seed and raises him/her as his own in such a way that it positively and profoundly changes their lives for the better has got my vote to get into those pearly gates.

Lost my mother 3 and a half years ago...now dad has stage 4 lung cancer...but we are a very close family and we make new memories all the time. He will go home some day, probably sooner than later, and my heart will break. But I'm choosing to remember the good and enjoy every day I have with him.

Your pops sounds like he IS a great man...there is no WAS...he's still around man, just in a different way. God Bless.
