Titans fire Whisenhunt

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300...ans-head-coach

The Tennessee Titans have parted ways with head coach Ken Whisenhunt, the team announced Tuesday.

Mike Mularkey will serve as interim head coach.

Mile High Mania 11-03-2015 08:50 AM

They gave him a season and a half... nice.

Mr_Tomahawk 11-03-2015 08:51 AM

He has been garbage since starting 4-0 in 2012.

alpha_omega 11-03-2015 08:53 AM

Well, i guess Dexter McLackluster has a new HC.

Buehler445 11-03-2015 08:55 AM

This is why I don't like retreads. Ours included.

You about can't give a guy time to turn it around.

That's how you build a championship team. Constantly change your HC.

Look at how great the Raiders have been over the past decade.

Yeah....

...He has not done anything in like 3 years. He averages like 1 win a year.

He is one of the most overrated coaches.

Hydrae 11-03-2015 09:03 AM

What a bunch of Mularkey.

:doh!: I was thinking he was OC in Arizona. That was Pitt.

FloridaMan88 11-03-2015 09:07 AM

Whisenhunt as an OC with play calling duties would certainly be an upgrade over the Reid/Pederson combo platter.

Amnorix 11-03-2015 09:18 AM

As HC of Arizona in 2012 he started at 4-0. Since then, as HC in Arizona and Tennessee, he is 4-31, with most of that coming in the dreadful AFC South which might be the weakest division in football over the last three years.

That is, uhh, not good.

Quesadilla Joe 11-03-2015 09:27 AM

I could see Haley getting a HC'ing job after the season and Whisenhunt going back to the Steelers next year.

I think it's safe to assume that the Raiders aren't very good at hiring HC's.

Also most of these teams (and I'll put us in there) that change HC's a lot have consistently poor QB play...

rabblerouser 11-03-2015 09:35 AM

Ouch.

Bet he wishes he took the Detoilet job...

Rausch 11-03-2015 09:41 AM

I don't care if he's 90, if we could get Dick LeBeau this offseason I'd nut myself to seizure...

Cheater5 11-03-2015 09:51 AM

He went 3-20 as their HC, and of course one of those wins came against...The Kansas City Chiefs. At home. With retired Jake Locker as their starting quarterback.

Alex threw three interceptions that game, and Jamaal had 7 carries.

Msmith 11-03-2015 09:59 AM

There are a lot of journeymen coaches that rotate around the league. Only a few that are truly great stay in same team years after years.

KC_Lee 11-03-2015 10:05 AM

Holy crap!!! Man watching this franchise descend into a total and complete dumpster fire is kind of sad. Titan's fans need to be careful, they could be looking at losing the team to L.A. or London if ownership can't get their act together.

That was very cool to see - I was there. :cuss:

He hasn't been a HC since 2002, and isn't the interim HC of the Titans. I'm pretty confident in saying that he's decided he doesn't want to be a HC. Considering hwo good he is at DC, and how mediocre he seemed as HC, he's probably right.

Wade PHillips is another one -- very good DC, but terrible as a HC. Gregg Williams (BountyGate notwithstanding), Rex Ryan (seemingly), etc. There are a fair number like that.

I want him as DC, not HC.

We have the type of talent on D he was accustomed to at Pitt and he's the master of the 3-4...

The Raiders sure have a good QB these days.

Glad that the Chiefs took Dee Ford over Derek Carr...

All NFL owners want to get back to 8-8 as quick as possible. An ownership group that is patience for 3 to 4 years, don't mind the sucking and can stockpile some high picks could build themselves a dynasty.

But that's one of the biggest problems with the Titans; when Bat Sh*t Insane Bud Adams died his family inherited the team. There has been nothing in the way of direction coming from the current ownership. In fact, there's been in-fighting within the family for control of the team.

The stadium is nothing special, the game day experience is as pedestrian as can be and now they are going to start over looking for a new HC. Total dumpster fire.

Ah I see.

Oh, holy crap. Errr, yeah, that is actually brilliant. Andy Reid gets his new Jimmy Johnson. Yes, you guys should definitely do that.

You are totally correct. It is so horribly dull at that stadium, so terrible. Tons of empty seats and the funny thing is a lot of the empty seats are paid for. No energy in the crowd whatsoever unless the opposing team brought a crowd and took over the stadium. The early years, it was great. It was loud, energetic and a tough place to play or visiting teams. What a cluster**** dumpster fire flaming aids tree with a bowl of antifreeze franchise the Titans currently are.

Bowser 11-03-2015 11:38 AM

He'll be an OC somewhere at the start of the 2016 season.

I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up back in San Diego with his buddy Mike McCoy.

Rivers had a good run with Whiz, too, which is why he was hired in Tennessee.

Yep. He's the Wade Phillips of offense - just a great coordinator, but a little lacking as the head guy.

tk13 11-03-2015 11:55 AM

I get why they did it but it's rough to get rid of a coach halfway through season one with a first round rookie QB. Now they have to hire someone who wants to work with Mariota, or dump him for another QB.

And if they keep moving forward with Mariota, he'll have to basically start over in year two.

Well, it's kinda tough when 3 years in fans start flying banners etc

I do remember those days when I first moved down to Nashville. Been here in TN for 12 years now. The team and stadium have just kept going downhill for years now.

The hell with OC, can he play quarterback?

I think that any coach would be thrilled to work with Mariota. He's smart, talented, athletic and accurate.

He has all the measurables teams look for in a rookie QB.

philfree 11-03-2015 01:01 PM

He can probably get a job in Detroit as OC for the rest of the season with a chance to get the job next year going forward and then HC when the current HC gets fired by the end of the year. If he wants?

That was more on Ownership hating who they brought in.

Most fan's in Oakland had no issues with

Tom Cabel or Hue Jackson

Mostly because they weren't retreads like our trash coach.

Whisenhunt will never be an NFL head coach, ever again.

His overall record is 48-71 and he's 8-31 since Kurt Warner retired.

1-20 in games where he doesn't have 8 months to prepare.
