Saints finally say adios to Ryan

Saints fired DC Rob Ryan.
The only thing surprising about this move is how long it took. Coach Sean Payton and Ryan have never gotten along, and Ryan's defenses have woefully underperformed the last two seasons. New Orleans finished 31st in yards allowed last season, and they are dead last in both points allowed and yards allowed this year. The Saints are on pace to give up the most touchdown passes in NFL history. Ryan's name will likely help him land another gig, but there is enough evidence to support the claim he is simply not a very good coordinator. Defensive assistant and former Raiders coach Dennis Allen will likely take over coordinator duties. It is a change which should have happened in January.

Surprised it took this long. The Saints defense is Greg Robinson bad, and that's not an exaggeration. Their numbers so far in November are outrageous. They're allowing about 40 points and almost 5 TD passes a game.

Yeah, but they really don't have much talent on Defense.

This D is 2002 Chiefs bad...

Yep. And now the league favors offense even more. Sucks for them.

Despite a report this morning that he would fire defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, Saints coach Sean Payton said today that he has made no changes to his coaching staff.

Addressing the media today, Payton said there aren’t any staff changes at this time. He added that everyone on the team and on the staff is on the same page.

Sounds like Marvez and PFT are on opposite sides of this one.

Maybe we can get them to trade for Sutton. Perhaps they have a football they could give us in exchange.

He was fired.

Now he's out and Dennis Allen is in, per PFT.

Has anyone ever cashed in on a name more than Rob Ryan?

HonestChieffan 11-16-2015 07:46 PM

Opportunity for MU

DaneMcCloud 11-16-2015 07:53 PM

The Saints are a complete disaster.

Let's just hope that Brees doesn't end up in Denver next year when the inevitable roster purge and front office/coaching staff firings take place in January.

Kiffin recruited well. He coached well. Pat Haden decided to undermine him and the program has taken a turn for the worse.

Alabama. Hello?

Alabama. Hello?

He's a good recruiter and his first couple years at USC were under tough conditions because of sanctions, but he had a preseason #1 team in his 3rd year and completely tanked. They ended up being the worst preseason #1 team in decades. Then the next year they weren't any better.

His one year at Tennessee was completely worthless. He's been okay with Alabama but he was widely blamed for their choke job in the playoffs last year. They were running the ball well and he completely went away from it. He's not really as successful as his reputation. I'd say the general consensus among college football people is few people have done less with more.

But that could be said about most college coaches. Mark Richt comes to mind for sure and it took guys like Bowden and even Osbourne forever to win.

If Kiffen weren't part of the Internet age, the complaints would be scarce.
