What is you favorite thing about ChiefsPlanet? What keeps you coming back?

While I'm waiting for the wildcard polls to close in the Hottest Celebrity Contest, I figured I'd take the time to pose a question to you guys.

I began lurking CP around 2011, I believe. Since then, I've come to love the place. It's certainly the website I visit the most often. So, I've asked myself, why is that? What is it about this place that draws me in so much?

I think one of the major reasons is that the board has helped me cope with being a fan of what, at times, seems to be a cursed franchise. The playoff loss in 2013 was rough on me. I'm a bit ashamed to admit that I'm one of those guys that tied a bit of my self worth to the Chiefs. I used to get so wrapped up in being a fan, that when they were being embarrassed, I was certain that people were looking down on me for being a fan. When they lost that playoff game in 2013, I couldn't talk to anybody outside of this website about it for months. However, that night on CP, other posters, who were sharing the same misery as me, were laughing and making jokes about the game. I found myself laughing at the posts, and it helped to get over it. Through you guys, I've gotten a lot better about letting things like that playoff loss go, and not getting so wound up about the Chiefs.

That's one of the many reasons I love CP, but it's not the main reason. I think the main reason I love this place is the personalities. CP has not shortage of them, and the way they interact with each other is extremely entertaining. Whether it's a Baby Lee/Dane McCloud feud over copyright law, or a cosmo/srvy feud about the mating habits of Africanized honey bees, they're all a spectacle. I find myself having to check every thread, regardless of topic, just to see what it has become.

So, what is it for you? Why do you keep coming back to this awful place? It certainly can't be the Chiefs.

Also just the history of winning and the good vibes and camaraderie that comes from a brotherhood of pure winners

cosmo20002 02-15-2016 11:42 PM

Excellent source of comedy. Some of it is intentional. And some is unintentional that comes from the ramblings of morons.

eDave 02-15-2016 11:48 PM

Came here for Chiefs and to just hang out with men. And a connection to home.

But last years Royals season was the best for me here. Watched every game, participated in every GDT and with basically the same core people each time. It was very special, as corny as that sounds. So much so that I was a little sad that Hootie didn't get to finish out the season. Sharing the season with those guys was cool.

I like how awful we can be to each other, then rally behind any member in need of some kind words and support.

I don't pretend to offer much in Chiefs analysis but I love the interaction and just hanging with dudes sometimes. Playing some grab-ass. I like to make little dumb jokes along the way, sometimes misunderstood (Rep system helps with this). And I've made, what I believe to be, some friends here. Some of whom I would risk meeting IRL.

I like that there are cool women here too, even Livesteam. And I think I smittin with one of them. Don't like the poop threads and **** those guys who didn't vote for Anna. They are pillowbitergots. NNTAWWT!

DC fascinates me.

People with knowledge.

People with opinions.

People that aren't wallflowers.

I couldn't care less if someone disagrees with my takes, as long there's respect. Sometimes, that respect is earned, other times, it's lost and sometimes, it takes years to gain.

But once you've got it, it pretty rare that you actually lose it.

As for the name-calling dipshits that resort to uncreative and unoriginal posts because they're butthurt, stupid and worthless?

Yeah, **** those guys on a Sybian machine with the jackhammer attachment and put it on Brazzer's for everyone to see.

mdchiefsfan 02-16-2016 12:12 AM

The collaboration of personalities is unlike any other website. I enjoy the randomness of this site. It is one giant melting pot of personality and I enjoy the diversity.

There are smart people, dumb people, funny people, annoying people, etc. Much like a choose your own path book, you get to weave your adventure however you desire on a daily basis.

Also, you all know the pain I feel every football season when our Chiefs come up short

We all share that pain

Pretty much all of the above. Y'all are good people. Well, some of you at least. Most of you have made me laugh though, so I'll keep coming back.

Been lurking since 2011 as well, but wish I could've joined a lot sooner.

Your very first sentence. I forgot to mention that. It seems as though when any topic is brought up on CP, there always seems to be at least a couple of guys that specialize in that area. That's pretty cool.

That Royals season made for great reading around here. I enjoyed watching you guys watch your team win it all. I even sat in on a number of the playoff GDTs.

I can only hope I get to have that experience with the Chiefs eventually.

Tacoman 02-16-2016 12:32 AM

Hilarious personalities, amazing generosity of entire groups of people that have never met each other. Entire undercurrents of sideplots throughout thr board because a lot of members have met and are friends. Love hearing the people who tell it like it is about any random subject. Support for people going through tough times. Husband and wife combo posting homes...

Add in the hall of classics and some football talk and this board just has such an amazing feel of something that has a life of it's own. We all open threads dying to know where they end.

Anyong Bluth 02-16-2016 12:33 AM

Hands down the female to male ratio.

Might as well call it ChicksPlanet!

Why Not? 02-16-2016 12:46 AM

Good overall commraderie(is that the correct spelling?), keeps me connected to KC from a few thousand miles away, mostly good people, great entertainment. Oh and the 4 or 5 guys I've met from CP are all good dudes I would hang with anytime. That's a 100% success rate. My family doesn't even score that high.

Buehler445 02-16-2016 12:47 AM

Came for the football. Which was head and shoulders above anything ever back in the day.

Stayed for the people. Every single one of the people I've met in this site has been top notch. I mean top ****ing notch. That includes Dave Lane (I'm as conservative as a mother****er will ever be), the resident get off my lawn cranky guy, Bugeater, and Reerun who everybody loves to hate. Sure trolls suck but there are some damn fine folk here.

It's pretty remarkable, really. In any given day, of the people I interact with each day, I'd say probably 80-90% I couldn't care less about and that guarantees some time with my wife and daughter and usually at least my dad. Logon and it's probably the inverse. I'm pretty good at skimming through the BS and there is always a take I care about or somebody doing something I can learn from. I wish there were an ignore function and the capacity to choose with whom I interact with in real life.

Other boards aren't this way either. I am on ag talk. It's a clunky ass ag BB but there are some sharp pencils in there. Anyway I post a thread about a risk mitigation technique I'm trying to employ thinking someone else had done the same thing. Those dumb mother****ers proceeded to bash me and call me names for even trying to take measures to protect some assets. God forbid we try to run out farm like a business. Pretty soon a couple guys actually contribute to the discussion and it calms down some but I put out a perfectly reasonable situations and morons that don't know anything about ****ing anything call me a dumbass.

Compare that with here. I reached out to a couple guys that I know do business and ran it by them. While they didn't know about production ag they shared their experiences in their businesses no questions asked.

It's the good people here that make it what it is. **** trolls. This is our community.

Why Not? 02-16-2016 12:48 AM

Remember a few Another Friday night drinking and whatever threads I started some years ago.Didn't feel like going out and would grab a bottle of Crown and settle in,it was pretty damn close to sitting on my favorite barstool and enjoying the evening.

I miss playing Texas Holdem in the casino lounge. Holy crap that was fun taking Smed1065 money. Those were the good Ol' days around here.

It's pretty much all habit at this point. There's very little worth a shit left here at this point. The worthwhile posters are mostly gone, discussion about football is as dead during the season as during the off-season. Although I guess I do enjoy the media center, so there is that. Otherwise, for me, the magic's long gone.

I'm here for the gang bang.

I've written my breakup letter to CP a time or two. It's not you, its' me...we're growing apart and both deserve to be happy. Not out of anger or baby fit, but honestly, It's part of our contractual obligation to the community. I've been close to hitting submit and delete a couple of times.

As recently as yesterday, I wondered why I still come here....and my answer might have been that its just a bad habit I've had for 16 years. Some days CP is like 3 cans of Mt Dew and an office job...its just part of your routine.

Then....There's the other part. I've been here 16 years. Can't believe I'm typing that...I've been with CP longer than I've known my wife. CP has been with me through 3 towns, 3 home remodels, a handful of girlfriends, death of friends and birth of children. It's basically a friend from HS that annoys you sometimes, but is always available when you need a beer and a talk. He knows your history, he's bled with you, laughed with you.

I've met a number of CP folks over the years and consider a handful real life friends. I've done business with Planet members, I've collaborated with others, a planet member designed the logo for my company when I was starting it....and yesterday, when I was wondering why I'm still wasting time here....Rico gave me some great information and helped me scout opponents for some of our local athletes for state. There is someone here who legitimately knows about any question you can ask.

Those are the things that make me take time off and then come back.

The Chiefs are a bad girlfriend who cheat on all of us, make us feel bad, make us feel good.....and this is the support group for all of us sorry sonnabitches who can't cut her loose....because she's going to treat us right this time...she promised at the draft.

Here for the Would You Thread.
Stay for the hilarity.
It takes a while to get CP. The first couple years of Lurking I was like WTF is this place?

Halfcan 02-16-2016 11:04 AM

I like that if something important is going on or if John Goodman dies again-it is on CP in a timely fashion.

Everyone I have met in person has been great. Joe has had some of the greatest Chiefs parties ever-always a fun time.

And the Chiefs game threads are always entertaining, although I only get to read them in progress when the team is on the road.

I forgot to add Gblowfish's 10 things about the game.

I really think it is the most unbiased, best written game summary in town. A person could miss the game and still understand what happened by reading this!!

I started searching for a Chiefs forum back in 2008 and I joined in early 2009. I liked the structure and topics. Since I never lived anywhere near Kansas City but wound up being a fan since 1970 while living in New Jersey, I needed a place to drown my sorrows and commiserate with like minded fans.

It's been a fun place, it gives me a tons of laughs, I never really get mad at anyone on here, I've met several fellow posters over the years, and I visit here nearly every day.

I think it's run very well and a good overall community.

I was going to troll a Raiders forum but they have their own standards for qualifications..

Which Raiders forum? I found one last year that expected you to donate to post in it lol?
And there didn't seem to be another active one.
I want to meet the moron who thought that was a good idea and the idiots that did pay
