Mack Rhoades is a Mother****ing Disaster
Here's another cherry on the shit sundae:
Missouri's softball team has launched a protest against athletics director Mack Rhoades and the athletic administration, according to the Columbia Daily Tribune. Players released a statement before playing a game Saturday, under protest, at home against South Carolina. “The Missouri athletic department is conducting a wholly unsubstantiated investigation of our softball program and the softball coaching staff,” the statement reads. “The softball players support and love our coaching staff, and we wonder why this black cloud is being put over our program intentionally by Mizzou AD Mack Rhoades.” |
I saw this in USA Today earlier. The team has won 9 straight while being investigated? For what?
|
They've also canceled plans to do anything to Hearns and to renovate the south endzone.
He's a Jayhawk sleeper agent. |

ROFL. Jayhawk sleeper agent.
As if anything in the KU AD not named Bill Self could be so effective. EDITED for ROFL |

Missouri is a goddamned bona fide train wreck right now. I keep waiting for my daughter to tell me that she's heard her high school friend Marquise Doherty is transferring to KU or somewhere not named Missouri. And I wouldn't blame him one single iota.
|
Bowen Loftin did nothing but start dumpster fires in his brief time at Mizzou, why would his AD hire be any different?

I think people were just excited for a not Alden.
I knew Rhoades was a limp dick the moment he started fumbling the whole coaching search. What a ****ing disaster. |
Alden was too good at winning.
|
IMO the Porter miss is bigger than this. Probably changes your basketball program if he commits.
|
Tim Jamieson was the first sign of an obvious problem.
There was no good reason to bring him back. He's been at this for a decade and we know exactly what he is - just mediocre as !@#$. Mizzou had one of the youngest rosters in the SEC with a fair amount of talent and a potential #1 overall pick leading the rotation. Mizzou baseball was an attractive job and Rhoades did jack shit to make it better despite a reputation as a baseball guy. Then you watch how he's handled....well everything, really, and you see he's just over his head. The guy's not a fixer; he's a bag man. He's a guy that will take money and maybe do an okay job of rallying funds when things are going well. If things are going poorly, however, he just has nothing. He can't sell the program, he's unwilling to make a risky or creative hire. He's just going to cross his fingers and hope things improve on their own. He's a MASSIVE disappointment. |

Not trying to be mean, but does this person really deserve his own thread?
|
Yeah because CP is so active in May.
shut up |
Maybe we should've went to the Big 10 instead LOL...all jokes aside, what a disaster and disarray this university is in from top to bottom.
No leadership from the new AD who already comes off as more of a bag man than Alden...questionable hires and mind boggling decisions within the athletics dept. These are the dark days and I don't foresee getting better any time soon... |
I can't for the life of me figure out why people are so down on the football hire. It was, as far as I can tell, the 2nd choice, but the first choice was never going to come, anyway. I like the guy, and I really like the way he has put his staff together.
|
Play stupid games (lose control of the BLM/CS1950 issue, hire and support academics like Melissa Click), win stupid prizes (sizable drop in enrollment and subsequent loss of tuition dollars, struggle to attract quality hires for open positions).

Mack Rhoades is a Mother****ing Disaster
From what I can gather, the AD began an investigation of the softball program after a parent of a player sent an email notifying the AD of common complaints by the players.
This isn't an out-of-the-blue thing. It was prompted by the players themselves. They don't like the direction it's headed, that's fine, but they started it. It's not like the AD could have ignored it, either. Then you run the risk of ending up on ESPN Between the Lines again, this time for ignoring abuses inside a program. I'm not a huge Rhoades fan - his decisions to sit pat on both Jamieson and Kermit Anderson are frustrating as hell. But I don't view the football hire as a botched hire. He wanted Herman, Fuente or Odom. Herman took a while to say, for sure, no, so he stalled for time by interviewing guys who were never real candidates. He tried to hire a new basketball coach this spring and couldn't get a guy he thought was an obvious, instant upgrade to say yes. I would fire Kermit tomorrow and hire COMOChief as the new Mizzou hoops coach and be confident it wouldn't get worse... But I also don't have to deal with keeping boosters happy... And the uproar from firing "their" guy after just two years and replacing him with someone who isn't a splash hire would be fairly significant. I would still pull the plug and try to start over (and count on not being an embarrassing shit show of a program to bring people back faster than giving a "fair shake" to a completely unqualified guy). But that, as I understand, is why something didn't happen this year. If he botches the hoops hire next year, the optimism I had will be gone. But this thing is not close to enough to do it. Just sounds like petulant softball playing females sent cowardly letters to their coaches bosses (because they didn't get their way) and the admin staff has to give in or get pulled back into the liberal media firestorm. Kids in universities act like pampered animals with zero integrity or imagination. The big thing that separates animals from humans is comprehension and thinking beyond oneself (was the only way human civilization matured) and that's sadly something lost on this current generation of savages and back stabbers.

Earlywine is a raging **** in the Todd Haley mode, but he is a winner. If he was the football or basketball coach with his success, it would be water under the bridge for him being a ****.
|
Rhoades should have kept everything above board, stressing to the staff and players that they just wanted to perform due diligence.
|
Barry Odom was your last ditch effort when closing time hit, so you could get something that resembled vagina over beating your meat before bed. He couldn't get who he really wanted.
And Kermit absolutely had to go, even if you couldn't land your top choice. He's literal cancer to the hoops program and you just can't afford to let him destroy it for another year. |
Quote:
Nothing Rhoades uncovered during his coaching search - which was primarily a smokescreen to buy time for Herman - swayed him from his opinion of Odom. Maybe it will work and maybe it won't, but stop agreeing with Kevin Kietzman on this one. YOu're both wrong. |
If you ever find yourself agreeing with Kietzman, you're almost certainly wrong.
|
Quote:
Odom was the fallback option. I don't know if Odom will be great or not, nor do I really fault Rhoades for not wanting to go with someone green. iirc, I think he got out hustled by Iowa State for a candidate and dear god I probably just summoned RustShack in here. **** me. |

They never wanted Matt Campbell. Never offered him the job. My source on Odom being the No. 3 guy (and really 2B) is pretty reliable. |
How do you not hire Tony Vitello?

This starts at the very top. The BOC, Wolfe, and Loftin all ****ed up majorly with their athletics hires. Wolfe and Loftin were the biggest supporters of Anderson, which is a firable offense on its own. The BOC, Wolfe, and Loftin all signed off on Rhoades, who has been a perpetual cluster**** of ineffectiveness and stupidity. Incompetent people hire incompetent people. And Rhoades is a shitshow. |
Is there a point on the curve where we can just shut this place down, napalm the campus and then salt the earth?
I think it has to be close. |

So who's the AD for Missouri State? Truman State?
Because we're running low on shitty regional schools to pillage at this point. |
On one hand, great!
On the other hand, all I can see in my head is Phillip Seymour Hoffmann's character from Charlie Wilson's War saying "We'll see" over and over... |
Also, does this mean that he saw the writing on the wall, and knew his days were numbered? Or does it mean that he felt his hands were tied by a shitty administration, and was looking for a way out?

I'd say this is closer to a Frank Haith situation. He knew he was going to get canned so he took a job somewhere else before he showed how totally and utterly incompetent he actually is. |

I like the Odom hire, and even if he was the 2nd choice, Rhoads did what he could to wait out a #1 who was never going to forego a chance at UT before pulling the trigger. Otherwise... yeah, it's been pretty ugly. Softball, Men's basketball, any part he may have played in the football/protest shenanigans. .. ugh. |

I'd say half of it was he knew he was doing a shit job here and half he wanted back in Texas.
Too bad he didn't leave before he got the chance to hire anyone. |

Sad state of affairs in Columbia. The athletic dept is a giant ****ing mess. Thanks. Thanks a lot.

I'm a KU guy who really enjoyed our rivalry with MU, and I was really disappointed when they left the conference -- I guess they needed to do what they needed to do.
I thought Pinkel's support of the football team's position as per the "hunger strike" guy was short-sighted and wrong as it pretty much ended up destroying a large chunk of the MU hierarchy and opened the door for the fine mess that they now have on their hands. I realize that MU is essentially a bad place (spoken with KU tongue firmly planted in cheek), but goodness, they can't seem to catch a break right now. Here's a reluctant hope that they get things squared away soon. Who knows, maybe someday we can again enjoy those interesting bonds created by a true and fun college rivalry. |
I'd say right now things are looking up, if they actually learn anything and make the right move in replacing him.
CS1950 was a mess, but it at least took out some trash. |
