Any one paid to have Christmas lights done?

My new house has a steeper peak then I may be willing to climb on.
I was going to do it today, but have some reserves.

What did you pay? What did you have done?

Simply Red 10-15-2016 10:27 AM

cute little house.

LoneWolf 10-15-2016 10:29 AM

I pay a company to decorate the outside of the house every year. They store everything, put all the lights, garland, and wreaths on the house and take them all down in January. Costs is $300 per year.

Demonpenz 10-15-2016 10:31 AM

I do it every year. I have less than 400 dollars in my savings, but hey like Tim Mcgraw says. Live like you are dying.

Buehler445 10-15-2016 10:31 AM

Friend of mine does it in Lawrence. I don't know rates, but he does it because the money is good.

I hope you don't hire people who put illegal street signs on corners. People who do that should be boycotted.

Yes. Very profitable for those who do it. It's usually not their main gig though

Not sure exactly the cost, but $300 sounds like a bargain.

Buzz 10-15-2016 04:20 PM

I think the price is more than that usually, but I've been a customer for years and I let them use pictures of our house in some of their ads.

Loyalty discount. Very nice.
Ya, I was thinking of something like 1k and up depending on the size of the job.

Not as young or flexible as I used to be. Above the garage is a steep pitch.
Lew-you can come and do it :)

This an artists drawing, not my real house. Just the same design.
Here is mine after the grass was put in

Lol I thought the driveway looked off.

SAUTO 10-15-2016 05:16 PM

Did you have to pay the guy to draw your house?

Did you frame it and hang it on the wall in your living room?

No, from the developers website. I uploaded a better version of the house because of the discussion

My thoughts exactly.

I have extreme acrophobia and that one wouldn't bother me. My bff up in Illinois pays about 6k every year to get her place decorated and I think it is stupid as hell.

Really, who gives a shit? If you do, why? I hang lights when I feel like, for myself.

I thought you didn't want to do the highest peak. The peak above the garage should not be bad. I have a peak above a bedroom that high and it's on a slope that I have to put boards under the ladder to get close to level, it's a little shaky but not too bad.

srvy 10-15-2016 08:40 PM

Put up once yourself and never take down.

Dayze 10-15-2016 08:56 PM

This reminds me of when my wife and I bought our second house. It was similar, high peaks etc. I got a hair up my ass to hang lights so I went out and bought a shit load. Had to climB onto the roof for the first time and walked to the top and looked down and was like fu******* this. Those lights are still in storage somewhere. LMAO.

ClevelandBronco 10-15-2016 09:21 PM

I'm not sure why, but it seems like paying someone to put your Christmas lights up is cheating.

Dayze 10-15-2016 09:25 PM

I'd be willing to pay for some sort of hypnosis or time travel to completely zip past thanksgiving and Christmas and right to March/April. I loathe the holidays and winter. Completely pain in the ass. Lol.

srvy 10-15-2016 10:28 PM

Honestly if you have a fear of heights just be safe and pay someone to hang them. Dont take the chance on freezing up a fall of 6 feet can kill of maim. My sisters brother in law fell off a ladder and died its just not worth it let a professional take the risk. te second story peaks what ladders and scaffolding do you have to get that job done. also the steep pitch of the roof will you be ok with it. I have been contracted to layout steel for to modern highrise in KC both ovedr 40 story trust when someone freezes up its not fun and is dangerous to them and you. So I wont call anyone a pussy to pay to have it done. think twice and tie off.

Yeah, that will happen. It will be a nice day. I will give it a shot today.

A little too much. Have to hang on to not slide so that gives me one hand to work. Doing the other parts next weekend.

white is cool, but will come off a little sterile/bland against the grey.

$280 to put them up and take them down. I got a big house, so I think that's a helluva deal

I totally wasn't in favor of it until I gave in to it one year when the weather was shit and I was busier than hell. That was 14 years ago. I've never looked back :)

seclark 10-18-2016 08:31 AM

i put up mine, and our house has some pretty steep peaks. both sons say they're afraid of heights, so i get sent to put theirs up too(one lives in frickin georgia). i just want to pick the day to do it. no shitty weather. and when it's time to bring them down, i just grab and yank. piss on saving the cheap made shit. they all can buy some new ones each year.

happy holidays.

loochy 10-18-2016 09:22 AM

I just throw some colored overhead projector transparencies over the lenses of our uplighting. It creates instant holiday cheer for about 5 minutes of work at $5.

You can find the colored transparencies on amazon. Just cut them to fit over the lenses of your uplights (or floodlights).

Looks like you have your answer.

That snow blower will easily fit out the window onto the roof if it's snowy come late November.

displacedinMN 10-21-2016 04:07 PM

Yup. Icicle lights. Light up the neighborhood. Also on a timer. I like automation.

There are so many possibilities anymore. Saw some LED the other day that would change into random colors. May try something different next year if these crap out.

Otter 10-21-2016 06:37 PM

Has anyone torn up this person's man card yet?

Just kidding. My Christmas lights consist of two white candles in the front windows and a wreath on the door.

displacedinMN 10-21-2016 07:42 PM

As Al Bundy said -I am married with children, and to all a good night.

Lew volunteered to comp up next year and put up lights.

Dec 24.
