Why isn't Alex Smith running the ball ?

15 yards rushing in 5 games. WTF is going on, saving his legs for the playoffs er what.

Sweet Daddy Hate 10-20-2016 04:01 PM

Hip dysplacia.

Like a German Shepherd.

Deberg_1990 10-20-2016 04:03 PM

He's older, he's probably been advised by Reid to stay in the pocket more this year, and defenses have taken that part of his game away

jjchieffan 10-20-2016 04:03 PM

He is afraid that if he gets injured, that he will lose his job to Foles.

Mr. Laz 10-20-2016 04:12 PM

I think the coaches told him not to run so much.

only reason i can think of

Hog's Gone Fishin 10-20-2016 04:12 PM

Well, All the above could be right. OK ,Thanks

Mr. Laz 10-20-2016 04:14 PM

Maybe he got a concussion that we don't know about and it freaked him out a little.

How so?

Did they thrown down some Lucky Charms on the field and recite an incantation?

It would seem he's choosing not to do so, and that is highly weird. It was his greatest asset.

temper11 10-20-2016 04:20 PM

I've been wondering this as well. During one of the games they (cameras) zoomed in on him continuing to mess with his foot or ankle and I thought they were going to explain some kind of discomfort there, but they never did.

This part of his game is oddly completely missing so far. Being a year older, one could expect there to be a lessening... but for it to be completely gone? It's odd.

Mr. Laz 10-20-2016 04:26 PM

Defenses have probably decided to treat Alex like other running QBs who's legs are a stronger weapon than their arm. Make him beat defenses passing the ball from the pocket like they did with Vick etc.

Force Andy and Alex to go deep, which neither prefer to do. Every chance Reid gets he will go with the short stuff. Alex Smith won't go off Andy's dink/dunk script and generally avoids risk and takes the safer throw.

Defenses know this and are keeping Alex Smith in the pocket and cover the short stuff.

You can't cut it off completely, and you KNOW there have been opportunities.

So again; what is REALLY going on?

Fish 10-20-2016 04:29 PM

Concentrating on that deep ball...

InChiefsHeaven 10-20-2016 04:30 PM

A risk-averse QB who is a year older, and defenses might just be taking away the opportunity...'sall I got...

6 months just completely took away his ability to run. :shake:

He doesn't take hits when he does run unlike Cam. No reason to tell him not to.

SAUTO 10-20-2016 04:34 PM

I think they are saving things

Sandy Vagina 10-20-2016 04:41 PM

It's a very good question.

Though it is clear that his intent is to run less, there is a snap or three per game when he is on his way to, but another lane collapses (OL sustain fail) and he gets tackles before getting through.

Otherwise, it is either
(a) an injury tweak that he is being cautious over
(b) Andy/Alex are afraid of an injury, so is prompted to avoid running as much as possible.. at least for reg. season games

Dude took enough shots to get his spleen ruptured.

Smith has been anything but a pussy.

Not a good post. You can do better than this.

BossChief 10-20-2016 05:37 PM

Defenses spying him this year.

He's gonna need to continue to attack deep to keep defenses from crowding the line and making sure he can't run.

NJChiefsFan 10-20-2016 05:42 PM

There is such a clear difference from this year to last year that I have to believe it is a conscious decision and not just circumstances and defensive scheming.

Buzz 10-20-2016 05:51 PM

Andy gave him free rein but he keeps putting his shoes on the wrong feet.

TigeRRUppeRRcut 10-20-2016 05:56 PM

They made an investment in Schwartz, time to trust the pocket. Raiders game was a good showing

nychief 10-20-2016 05:57 PM

He wracked up a lot of those yards last year before ware emerged.

TigeRRUppeRRcut 10-20-2016 05:58 PM

After so many years of running the ball and not getting hurt, then watching Wilson have a close call with his leg then Cam with his concussion... You just don't take the chance against the law of averages

Agreed

He has a remarkable ability to know just the exact moment to slide or maneuver his body away from harm

Now this right here might just have some merit. maybe coach is pushing him to stay in the pocket long enough to dump off a screen with the line we now have.
In years past the line was caving right away. Now he has his 3 second window.
