The Chiefs have won two-straight to improve to 4–2 and their schedule could set them up to go on a long winning streak, just like they did to last season. The Jets, despite beating the Ravens, are 2–5 and going nowhere. They are in the midst of a rebuild with problems at quarterback, secondary, edge rusher and linebacker. Even though Eric Decker is lost for the season, having Marshall on the roster without a future quarterback makes no sense. Plus, he could blow up at anytime. And I’m sure he would love catching passes from the likes of Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg next season. On the other end, the Chiefs, who should be getting OLB Justin Houston back soon, are fine on defense (8th by FootballOutsiders.com) but plodding along on offense (20th). With Jamaal Charles getting healthier, the Chiefs need some more weapons in the pass game if they want to punch through and at least make the AFC Championship Game. That would likely mean a victory over New England or Pittsburgh, and the way through both of those teams is not on the ground, it’s through the air. The Chiefs have good options at No. 1 WR (Jeremy Maclin), RB (Charles, Spencer Ware) and TE (Travis Kelce). Adding another weapon, especially a big red-zone target like Marshall, would make the Chiefs very difficult to defend. The Chiefs were knocked off by the Patriots in the postseason last year when they scored 20 points (13 until a garbage-time score). That’s not good enough to upset the Steelers or the Patriots this time around either.

Smith doesn't throw to people unless they get open. Marshall is a possession guy. Yes it does help us, I just doubt we throw his way enough to make it worth it, especially for a second rounder. I might bite for a 4th.

Agreed. We've added an improved Conley, Schwartz, tyreke hill and we still look mostly the same on offense. Big upgrades on offense only lead to marginal improvements.

Much as people criticize Bob Sutton, heres the deal.. You give him two serviceable corners and he can field a solid defense. With Justin Houston, the D becomes outstanding. When you give Sutton weapons, you see huge improvements to the D. Unlike the offense.

B) Really stupid idea. The problem isn't a lack of weapons, it's that the entire passing game just seems way out of sync. Even when Smith's attacking, Maclin's not getting separation or not coming in with the ball. Kelce's become an afterthought the last few weeks.

This team isn't struggling because it doesn't have talent, it's just not putting it to use. If they're looking to move a 2nd rounder (spoiler: they aren't), it should be for a pass rusher or CB.

That would really add fire to the Kelce/Maclin thread...

It's not necessarily out of sync, they aren't throwing it enough. Hell, they've thrown 24 passes the last 2 games. Guys aren't gonna get many targets that way.

I'm guessing you're gonna say "to get albert wilson off the field" because of course you will. Then I'm gonna say, " he plays like 10 snaps as is the 6th or 7th option in the offense so what's it matter".

Frankly, we need a qb that can run a successful offense that can throw it more than 30 times a game for any more wrs to make a difference.

Only reason any top shelf WR should even be considered is in case of an injury deep in the season/post-season. Only then, do the Chiefs not have enough to make up for that WR1 loss. If the current group stay healthy, looks like KC will be fine.

Now like others suggest, if they can acquire a good CB? well that's what they should look into most.

Brandon Marshall is really good. The risk of a trade like this is how long he'll play, but he's a very legit #1 receiver.

Pass Rusher is too much of a premium in terms of price to acquire anyone of impact.

Plus, getting Houston back is essentially getting a trade deadline upgrade at the position.

If the Chiefs were to make a move, corner is by far the area of greatest need that the team has tons of youth to groom and where a proven vet could make the biggest impact.

Besides, you really can never have too much DB depth.

MIKE would be the next position of greatest need for an upgrade. The rest the price of upgrade in proportion to the degree of improving is hard to justify when considering the cap impact and draft pick compensation you'd have to give up.

While admittedly a concern, I find it very pleasing that he was a train wreck in Denver and then became rehabilitated into a very solid citizen by his subsequent teams.
